TheCatholicHallatHaywascornpletelydestroyedbyfirerecently.It wasanimposingandsubstantialwoodenbuilding.Thehallhadnotbeen usedfornearlyaweek,andtheorigin ofthefireisamystery.itwaswell furnished,aridwasvaluedat£2,500. Aquantityofvaluablebooksand othereffectswhichwerestoredinthe buildingeeredestroyed.
SpeakingattheSt.Joseph'sSchool ConcertintheRiverinaHallrecently, theBishopofWagga(Dr.Dwyer)re ferredtoremarkspassedatarecent meetingoftheWaggaMunicipalCouncil,inconnectionwiththevisitto WaggaofArchbishopMannix.Dr. Dwyersaid:"Inotice'thatithaslasea saidweshouldhaveaskedpermission toholdtheprocessionwhenwewnt tomeetArchbishopMannix.Inthe CounciltheMayorofWaggasaidhi didnotthinkitwasaprocession,becausewedidnotcarryflagsorbanners.Well.Idon'tknowaboutthat, butifwecannotmeetourfriends whenwewantto.thislandisnotso freeasitissupposedtobe.'
AvisitwhichgavetheRectorofSt. John'smuchpleasureduringhisstay inPariswasthattoAustratia'sfirst ApostolicDelegate,ArchbishopCerretti.Dr.O'Reillyhadveryhappy memoriesofhistwovisitstoArchbishopCerretti,andrecalledhowenthusiasticallyourfirstDelegatespoke ofhisstayintheConunonwealtL.He stillretainshisaffectionfortnis SouthernLand,andinquiredvery kindlyofhismanyfriendshere.His Excellencyhasneverforgotten,Australia,andsaidheneverwill.Infact, hementionedthathewouldliketo returnhere,wherehehadsomany friends,whohadtreatedhimsohospitably.
