PadreAngiolo'smindmovedrapidly,andinafewmomentshehad unfoldedtohisattentivelisteners thewholestoryofAgneseBianchini'slambs,andAlessandro'sdesire tosavethetaforthefiestaatSt. Agnese.

TheShepherdBoy'sOffering

Inagreenpasturehoundedbytreesthequietsheepwerefeeding,and thelambsfriskingaboutunderthewatchofalittleshepherdboy.Ile waspoor,andhisfeetwerehare,hisc'pthesveryragged.Buttherehe washappyasaking,smilingandeFingingtohimself,andnowand againpickingsomeflomerthattoohisfancy.

Therecamealongawomancarryingherbaby-boyinherarms.They hadcomeouttoenjoythewarmsunshine,andseethefreshgreenfields. Theshepherdboysawthemcanting,and-whateverwasthereason-he thoughtthatthisbabywasnotlikeotherbees.Suddenly,anangel voiceseemedtowhieper: "ThatislittleJesus,andMary,IlisMother."

Theshepherdboysaidwithinhimself"WhatcanIdoforthem?" And,afteramoment'sthought,hekn:ltdown,justpoorandraggedas hewas,and,pickingsomedaisies,gaethemtoJesus,Whostretched outHislittleHandsforthem.

Daisiesaresocommonandplentifulthatmostpeopleneverthink howbeautifultheyare.Butwhenthesunshinesonthem,isthefinest silverasbeautiful?

Thedaisiesoflifearejusttheordinarythingsthatpeopleneithernoticenorvaluemuch.ButthereareEyesthatseekthemandHands thateatherwhentheyshineinthelightoflove.
