ThemarriageoftheKaiser'sonly'Loireandhadnoideawhotheir daughter,PrincessVictoriaLouise,grandfatherwas. toPrinceErnestofCumberland, InmoderntimestheGuelphs,altookplacelastSaturdayafternoon,thoughtheirnamehasceasedtobe thewholeoftheproceedingsconnec-terriblefromtheAppeninestoFlantedwithitbeingofthemostbril-ders,havedonefairlywell.Thehead liantdescription, ofonebranchoccupiestheBritish Afterthecivilportionofthemar-throne.Uptill1866anotherbranch riagewasperformedintheElector'swereKingsofHanover.Yetathird Room,aprocessionheadedbytheweresovereigndukesofBrunswick newlyweddedcouple,andfollowedbyuntil1884.In1866theblindGuelph theKaiserwiththeDuchessofKingofHanover,GeorgeV.,hadto Cumberland,theKaiserinwiththechoosebetweenPrussiaandAustria. DukeofCumberland,theCzarwithBismarckofferedtoguaranteehis QueenMary,KingGeorgewiththepossessionsifhewouldsidewith GermanCrownPrincess,andother royalpersonages,marchedthrough thecastletothechapel,whichwas tilledwithnotablepeoplewhowitnessedthereligiouspartoftheceremony.

Areceptionfolhmed,andafterthat cameabanquetattendedby1,200 guests.TheKaiser,inthecourseof amovingspeech,inwl.ichheaddressedthenewlyweddedcouple,said thatthegreatruleoftheGuelphs andtheHohenzollernswastheshapingofthefatherland.Hedweltuponthedutiesandprivilegesofhome life,andbegeedl'rinceErnesttotake hisdaughterunderhislovingprotection.

Thesecondlistofsubscristiensto theHomeRuleFundfor1313ismist satisfactory,andshowsthatthe countryisfullyalivetothenecessityofmakingthisyear'stotalsurpassallrecords.Corkhasfollowed asplendidleadgivenbyDublin,and, innumerousotherdistrictsallover thecountry,meetingshavebeenheld andarrangementsmadefortakingup collections.Inthismatter,the branchesoftheUnitedIrishLeague are,asusual,takingaleadingpart, andfromthenumerousDivisionsof theA.O.H.andtheI.N.Foresters, andotherorganisations,themost generousandencouragingsupportis forthcoming.SupportoftheIrish Partyandthenationalcauseunites allsectionsofthepeopleasthey neverwereunitedbefore,andaspirit ofenergyandenthusiasmhasbeen calledforthbytheprogressofthe HomeRuleBill,whichcannotbut conduce'nestpowerfullytothefinal passageoftheBillintolaw.

Mr.Wm.%loomtheUnionistMemberforNorthArmagh,whowassuspendedfromtheHouseofCommons forbreachoftherules,hastothank thePrimeMinisterandtheIrish('artyfortheremovalofthebanplaced uponhintandfor1.isrestorationto thefreedomofthatassembly.Some oftheLiberalMemberswantedto dividetheRouseonthePrimeMinister'smotion,asMr.Moorehad notexpressedanyregretforwhat hadoccurred,(butMr.JohnRedmond andMr.JelinDillonstoodupand pleadedfortheirUnionistcountryman,andthankstothem,nodivisiontookplace.Mr.Redmond,in appealingforaunanimousassentof theHousetothemotion,saidhe spokefortillhiscolleaguesofthe IrishParty.Andsohedid.The IrishPartyarenottherepresentativesofafaction.Theystandfor theIrishNation,andtheyshowedit onceagaininthecaseofMr.Moore,

Canadawasdisloyaluntilitgot HomeRule.Nowitisasloyalas tinyotherpartoftheEmpire.And theFrenchereliansarethemost loyalofall. Wiry? SirWilfrid Lauriertoldusthatitisbecause theyarefre,.AndnowSirLomer Gain,thePremierofQuebec,oneof themostdistinguishedofFrenchCanadianlawyersandpublicists, addshistestimonyinfavouroffreedomasasolventofdiscontentand race-hatred,andthegeneratorofunionandloyalty.SirLamerwireentertainedbytheRoyalColonialInstituteinLendononApril17th,and inthecourseofhissearch,hereed

qualitiesforwhichtheystoodpreeminent,withoutintheleastdegree hamperingeachother.Throughthe combinationofAnglo-Saxonand Frenchgenius,theCanadianpeople wouldbecome,inco-operationwith theBritishEmpire,apowerfulfactorforthebettermentofmankindat large.Youmayrestassured,"Sir Lomeradded,"thatmycompatriots willcontinuetodotheirfullshare, tothebestoftheirability,loyally andwhole-heartedly,inshapingthe courseofCanadatowardsherbrilliantdestiny.Inunionwith,Great Britainandthesisternationswhich constitutetheEmpire,wewishto pursuethepeacefultaskofincreasingthesumtotalofhumanhappiness.Andinfurtheranceofsuch ideal,weinQuebecandCanada,in commonwithourbrethreninAustralia,NewZealand,SouthAfrica, andallpartsoftheEmpire,willbe inspiredandsuetamedbyourloyal affectionanddevotiontotheirMost GraciousMajesties,theKingand Queen."

"Hesaiditwasaclassicphrase inCanadathatthelastshotfiredin defenceoftheBritishEmpirein NorthAmericawouldhefiredbya French-Canadian.Itwas,Lesaid, asunnecessarytotalkabouttheloyaltyofQuebecasitwastotalkof thewarmthofthesun.Asaresult ofhissevenyears'experiencehewas convincedthattherewasnomore loyalpopulationintheEmpirethan theFrench-Canadianpopulationof theprovinceofQuebec."

Itwouldheimpossibletoconvey inwordsanystrongertestimonyto thehealingandunifyingeffectsof HomeRulewithintheEmpire.

SirLamerGreen'sspaechwillbear furtherquetetien.Ontheracequestion,hiswordshaveexceptionalimportancejust.now,andtheirapplicationtotheIrishquestionisstriking'--

yearattheMidlandBazaar.Last year,forvariousreasons,thisstall fellthrough,andthelosswasfelt keenly.Thisyearaspecialeffortis beingmadetoagainsecurethecooperationofourPerthfriends.Ifwe succeedindoingso,Midlandwill haveagreatadvantageoverher friendlyrival,Guildford,andthe proceedsoftheBazaarshouldbein Wevicinityofhalfathousand.At anyrate,GuildfordandMidlandare outfortreasureandgoingataterrificpacewithfullsteamup.They realisethatthepresentheavydebt isanobstacletothemanyworksof developmentthatcallforattention intheparish,andtheyaredeterminedtokeepupavigorouscampaign untilitisaltogetherwipedoffthe slate.

OnlastSundaymorningavery largeandrepresentativemeetingof theGuildfordCatholicswasheldin St.Mary'sChurchtomakearrangementsforaBazaartoliquidatea portionatleastofGuildford'sshare oftheparishdebt.Mr.O'Learywas appointedchairmanoftheBazaar Committee,andMr.Lannensecretary.Itwasevidentfromthetone ofthespeechesthatthephenomenal successoflastyear'sBazaargave greatconfidencetotheCatholicsof Guildfordthattheycanaccomplish greatersuccessthisyear.ItwasresolvedtoholdtheBazaarinNovember,andasapreliminarytoruna seriesofEuchreParties.Mrs.Smith, Mrs.Cowan,NvissMannixandFather Morriswereappointedasub-committeetosecureprizesforthefirst EuchreParty,whichwillheheldon Junethe12th,andfortheothers whichwillfollowmonthly.Greater enthusiasmcouldnotheexpected, andeverythingindicatesthatthe Bazaarwillheagreatsuccess.

Therecouldnotbeamoreemphaticcondemnationoftheharshness andrigidityoftheJansenists;there couldnotbeamoreimpressiveappealtotheheartsofmentoturn asidefromtheirtepidityandacknowledgeonceandforeverthelove ofourblessedLord.Iamnotgoing nowtotracethehistoryofthede
