Thewallsareabouttwofeetin thickness,andthebeamsofthe roofaresolidtrees,onlylevelledoff wherenecessary.Someoftheseare considerablyoverafootindiameter.Improvementsare,howevercontinuallygoingon,anditwillonly beamatterofafewmonthswhen thesebeamswillbehiddenbymetal ceiling.Mostoftherooms have alreadytheseceilingsandtheyare beingfurtherelaboratedbytheartisticdesignsofalaybrotherwho isagifteddecorator.ThisBrother doesallthepaintinganddecorating inthemonastery,Convent and Churchandhisdesignsarecharming.TheOratoryisasplendidexampleofhisworkmanshipandhe isnowengageddecoratingtheOratoryintheGirls'College.ThealtarintheChurchisbeautifuland iscoveredwithgoldleaftothe valeofovera£IoobutthealtarintheGirls'CollegeOratoryis themoststriking.Itisamagnincentpieceofwore,excellentlycarvedandthecrossontopofitreachestotheceiling.Thenativeboys' homeisoneoftheearlybuildings ofthemission.Onentering the schoolroomattachedtothishome oneseestheyoungnativessitting totheirdesksalongthesideofthe wall;andwhatasightitis,everyoneofthemturningroundto acknowledgethevisitwith a broadsmile.Intheevenings,Gramaphoneconcertsaregiven,the GramaPhonebeingworkedbe one oftheeldernatives,whoisvery fondofmusic.Theyoungnatives dancetothetunes,andtheykeep splendidtime.Withalittletrainingtheseyoungsterswouldmakeexpertdancers.
