ALittleStepUpwards

Irelandtookalittlestetupward (eftofthesloughofdespondduring thequarterendedSeptember30th. Despiteanemigrationof7,260persons,therewasanactualincreaseof 2,868inthepopulation.Workhouse paupersdItreasedby2,302,andoutdoorpaupersbyI,o58,ascompared withlastyear,andby907in-door, and1,417out-door,ascompared withtheaverageofthePreceding tenyears.Themarriageratewas alsohigher.Thoughthenumberof emigrantsisstillhigh,andwas1542 greaterintheSeptemberquarter thaninthethirdquarterof1908,it wasnolessthan2,609belowthe averageofthetensitars1899-1908.
