In1876theBelltelephoneattracteduniversalattentionat theCentennialExpositionheld in nhiladelphiatocelebratetheone hundredthyearofAmericanliberty. Visitorstotheexpositionfromwere civilisedcountrywereimpressedwith thewonderfulinvention,andsoonai tertheBelltransmitterfoundits waytouseinsever:xiforeigncountries.

BellfiledhisapplicationforlettersIworeedout,untilwenowhavethe patent,atWashington,February14,automaticsystemonametalliccite 1876,ElishaGrayalsofiledacaveat for"anewartoftransmittingvocalsoundstelegraphically.'Thisapparentclashledtoextendedlitigation,butitwasheldbythecourts thattheBelldevicewasdistinctly

ThrPapalNuncio,Rinucini,inhis reportmadetotheHolySeeonhis returntoRomein1649,says.speakingofLoughDerganditssanctuary, "Thedevotionsofthisdeepcave areofgreatantiquity,thoughtheir firstorieinisuncertain.Itis agreedthatthesaintchosethatspot forhisholyretreatsand,thevisions withwhichhewasfavouredbyGod arewellknownandapprovedofby succeedinggenerations.
