Inthecourseofalongandforciblesermon,theRev.FatherVer-
worldonly,itneglectsandignores theendforwhichmenwerecreated andredeemed.Thereitisthatthe CatholicChurchdiffersfromevery otherdenomination. UnlessreligiondefinitelytaughtformapartNI thecurriculum,theChurchwillnot haveitbecauseitisincomplete, inadequateandimperfect. Throughoutalltheagesthishas beenthepolicyoftheChurchinthe matterofeducation,andtheworld maywellblessthatChurchbecause ofitswondrouseffortsinthecause ofeducation.Wereitnotforthe Churchhowmuchoftheclassics wouldhavebeenpreserved?Where couldtheircriticsfindtheBible wereitnotforher?Wherewould theyfindthepaintings.statues,all theperfectionofartandscience, wereitnotfortheCatholicChurch whichrecognisedtheirexcellenceand herdutytopreserveandtransmit them.Allthesocialistic.andanarchisticevilswhichdestroythe peaceofnationsatthepresentday areduetotheimperfecteducation thechildrenreceived.Theywere nottaughttheirresponsibilityto God.theirdutytotheirfellowman, northeirdutytoobeythePowers appointedtoruleanddirectthem. Hence,nationsandpeoplesdisagree andquarrelhence,designingmen propogateevilandimmoraldoctrineswhicharesoreadilyassimulatedhencewritersblighttheinnocenceofyouthwiththevileproductionsinnovelsandmagazines.

TheannualSt.Patrick'sDay sportswereheldatBoulderonWednesday,17thsaysthe"Kalgoorlie Miner,"Theweatherconditionsleft butlittletobedesired,astheday, thoughperhapsatrifleonthewarm side,wasnotunpleasant.Inthis districttheannualcelebrationsare keptupunderdifficulties,astheW. A.T.C.havemadeitapracticeto alwaysallotthesecondweekin MarchforoneofthelocalGoldfields fixtures,andtheconseeuences,so tarasthesportsareconcerned,are veryserious.
TheprocessionformedinWittenoom-street,oppositeAllHallows' Church,andsoonaftertheappointed timeitwasreadytostart.A strongbodyofmountedMarshals tookcontrolofthecortege,which wendeditswaythroughthetown, totheinspiringstrainsoftheBoulderCityBand,undertheleadership ofMr.H.McMahon.Thecommitteehaveneverfeltjustifiedunder. thecircumstancesinwhichthedemonstratiorsarehelduponthe heldingoingtoheavyexpenseIn providingdisplaysintheprocession, andtherewasnothingoutofthe usualinyesterday'sturnout,exceptthatitwaspeehapsthelargest thathasyetbeenheld.Boththe HibernianSocietyandtheIrishNationalForesterspossesssplendidbannersandthesewerefeaturesinthe turnout.Therewasalargemusterofmembersofbothsocieties. TheBoulderRacecoursewasreachelingoodtime,butthesportwas ratherbehindthehourforstarting anditwasalmostdarkwhenthe lasteventwascontested.However, itmutttoagreedthatthemat.agemeetofthehugesportsmeeting, wheretheprogrammeissuchavariedone,isaheavytaskforany individualwhohasnotmadealife studyofsuchmatters.tograpple with,andtheSecretary(Mr.R. assistants,didwellintheMecumD.Lane),withhisarmyofwilling' stancesIngettingthroughasthey did.Thewhippethandicap,ccupied muchofthetimeoftheafternoon, andthiswastheprincipalmedium ofspeculation.Themotorracewas aninnovationthatcreatedagreat dealofinterest,andasthelarge cars,withtheirheavyhorse-power, flewpastthesmallermotors,the Peoplewerearousedtoenthusiasm. .When,throughtestsofthiskind, thehandicapperisbetterableto judgethecapabilitiesofthecars, motorracingshouldbecomeagreat institutionintheseprogrammes,as nothinewouldbemoreemit:tie-than toseetwocarsracingsidebyside, orlargecarsoverhaulingthesmalleronesandfinishingatcloserange. Hereitmightbesaidthatfroma (lancingpointofview,andalthough thefloorwasinsplendidcondition generallythereareafewspots whichrequireattention,someofthe boardsrequireplaning.Withthe excellentmusicprovidedbyFeuckers'Bandthedancewentwitha merryswingthroughout,indeedthe spiritofthepianoandviolinseemedtohaveenteredintothedancers.
Adaintyfruitrepastwasserved earlyintheeveningandatmidnightsupperwaswarmlywelcomed. Itwasanidealnightforthedance. infact,astheeveningworeonit wasattimesalmostchilly.

SAYSTHE"BEVERLEYTIMES." Theannualsportsmeetingheldin BeverleyincelebrationofIreland's patropSainteventuatedundermost favourableconditionsonWednesday last.Shortlyafternoonpeoplebegantoarrivefromallpartsofthe district,andbythreeo'clockthe gatheringwasoneofthelargest everknown-tohaveassembledona similaroccasiononourrecreation ground.Messrs.J.Punch,ana A. Duffhadchargeofthegeneralarrangements,whilsttheRev.Father Hallinanundertookthemanagement of'thesocialportionofthecelebrations,whichincludedawell-attendedandthoroughlyenjoyableballat night. Howwellthesegentlemen carriedouttheirrespectivetasss maybegleanedfromthefactthat doubletheprofitrealisedfromany Pastgatheringofthekindheldin Beverleywillbeplacedtothecredit oftheConventfund,inaidofwhich thevariousfunctionswereheld.The attractivenessofthegatheringwas considerablyenhancedby'thepresenceoftheBeverleyBrassBand, whichmadeitsfirstappearanceunderthebatonofMr.Lupp,andreceivedwell-meritedappreciationfor thehighlyefficientmannerinwhich themembersrenderedvariousselectionsduringtheafternoonandevening.Thevariouseventswerewellcontested,andonlyononeoccasion didany'unoleisantincidentarise, thatbeinginthefinaloftheShef fieldHandicap.inwhichthesecond prizewasawardedtothethirdman (Pyke),asitwasconsideredthesecondman(Cahill)wasnota"trier."
