Naturally,itwasthoughtthatsue avolumewasindispensabletothe LibraryoftheRoyalDublinSociety, buttheproposalthatitshouldfied aplacetherewasrejectedbythe voteofamajorityrefthemembers. TheAscendencyPartystillclingto thetheorythatnothinggoodcan comeoutoftheCatholicChurch, andwhentheyareconfrontedwith pro-fstheyendeavourtodiscreditor alcolutelydestroythem.

Now andthenwepieceourfragmentstogether,ortackonanewfragment, andsoaddtoourknowledgemakingitgrow.Thusitisreallyever growing,alwaysonthemove,never still,andsoneverfinal.Certainty' is,alwaysevolvinglikeacirculating decimalbutneverdevolve,always approximating,butnevertouching, alwaysonitsjourney,butneverarriving.

Ifwehavenocertainknowledge, nocertainty,thennoEvidenceisof anyparticularuse.Noevidencecan haveanybindingforceonanyone, because,whatseemedtrueyesterday may,throughthecontinuousprocessofevolution,beshowntobe, bylateracquiredevidence,asimple misapprehension.Alltrothisaccordinglyonlytruesofar,justas far,aswehavegot.ItisconsequentlymerelyRelative,Reversible, ProvisionalandPerfectible. 2.Thereisnostatictruth,inany formulatedCreed,norcanit,from evidence,bindtheintelligenceof Man. Withthesepremisseswearebound togoastepfurther,androundup thelogicalargumentbysayingthat ifthereisnoauthority,andno creed,thenthereneitheris,norcan be,anyChurch.Novisiblesociety ofmencanheldtogetherwithout authority,.AvisibleChurchcannot livewithoutauthority.
