TheChairmaninafewwell-chosen wordsintroducedtheRev.Lecturer totheaudience.TheLecturer,who hadrecentlybeenstationedinthe Philippines,saidthattheIslands weresome1,400innumber,manyof thembeingbutisletsandrocks.The totalpopulationamountedtoeight millions,ofwhomsevenmillions wereCatholic.Ofthephysicalfeatureshedidnotdesiretosaymuch thoughinhisopinionthesceniceffecttothetropicalvegetationand mountainousterritorywasSuperior tothatofCeylon.Thecountrywas discoveredbythefamedMagellanin theyear1521.,butthediscovererwas clOnetodeathontheveryisland (Maotan)thatthereverendgentlemancamefrom,andwithinafew milesofthesiteoftheirMonastery.

TwogreatChristianbodiesrecentlyheldimpressiveconferencesinEngland-theCatholicandtheProtestant-orperhaps,tobemoreinaccordwiththetrendofthoughtin thelatter-weshoulddesignatethem astheCatholicandAnglicanbodies. Theonewasademonstrativeasthe othertheonewasasfullyrepresentativeofitsdistincttenets,aswas theother.TheAnglicanwasinits awnhome,undertheaegisofEngland'sprotectionandwelcome,and surroundedbythecharacteristically religiousatmospherethatobtainsin aprotestantcouatry.TheCatholic body,asitsnameindicatesisat borneineveryland,andisstrictly speakingbeholdentonocivilGovernment.TheAnglicanbodyisthe pettedandpamperedchildofits countrytheCatholicistheostracisedandpersecutedmother-that onceownedandlovedEnglandas thefairestofherdaughters.Asa mothershewasruthlesslyexiledand to-daysheismerelytoleratedina country-onceknownas"Mary's Dowry." IfHehastheyshouldnotbe celebratedintheColonies,andifHe hasnot,couldtheynotsayso?In the,natterofDivorce,theConference hasadheredtotheattitudeofdeplorablecompromise,whichithasassumedinthepast.Theissuewas asdefiniteasintheothercase. DoestheAnglicanChurchbelieveand teachthatmarriageswithdivorced ordivorceesarevalidorinvalid?

Doesitsaythatsuchpersonsare manandwifeinthesightofGod? Theconferencedidnotanswer.It allowedthequestiontogobydefault,andtheAnglicanpeopleare astheywere.
