For over 40 years ARCC has offered extraordinary travel experiences for young adults with the mission of providing unique, life-changing opportunities in some of the most amazing places around the world. What we have learned over the past four decades is that delivering quality, fulfilling, and enriching programs for our participants each year is not an accident. Find out what sets ARCC apart and makes our programs exceptional!

UNIQUE & UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES

An ARCC program is not your typical tourist experience. During our programs, students venture to places far off the beaten path, immerse in new cultures, and participate in activities that most people only dream about. We have spent decades building close relationships with our partners and communities around the world to ensure meaningful and immersive experiences for our students.

EXCEPTIONAL TRIP LEADERS

Our leaders and instructors are exceptional individuals of extraordinary character and experience. Selected through an extensive application process, ARCC leaders are enthusiastic about education, travel, social and environmental justice, and, most importantly, working with young adults and helping our students thrive.

DIVERSE CURRICULUM & PROJECTS

ARCC students engage in intimate, authentic encounters with the people, cultures, and lands they visit while giving back in a meaningful way. We focus on community-driven, sustainable projects that run year round. We work closely with our in-country partners and individuals who know the needs of the communities we visit. Education is an essential part of any ARCC program. From hands-on projects, to expert-led discussions, to building leadership skills, our students are exposed to a variety of learning opportunities.

PARTICIPANT HEALTH & WELL-BEING

We take great pride in our risk management protocols and procedures, and we are committed to taking a proactive approach to ensure the well-being of our students. Each of our trip leaders must maintain a current Wilderness First Responder certification, providing them skills to focus on mitigating risk and responding effectively in emergency situations.

OVER THE YEARS:

“Our daughter has loved her three ARCC trips. Each trip has added and contributed to the young woman she is becoming. Each trip, she grows and steps outside of her comfort zone." PARENTS OF EMMA Q., PARKLAND, FL

CULTURAL

IMMERSION PROGRAMS PROGRAMS

ARCC Cultural Immersion Programs expose our students to the many facets of a culture, from language, customs, and food, to religion and history. Interspersed throughout the group’s travel are discussions by topic experts such as professors and NGOs, language schools, cooking classes, projects with local partners, and in some cases, a “group stay” in a local home. It is our goal that by the end of your ARCC cultural immersion program you think of this part of the world as a second home.

FOCUS PROGRAMS

ARCC Focus Programs drill down into a single topic important to the country or region of travel. We bring in experts to educate our students on these topics and then get hands-on experience working with these experts. In some cases, we participate in important scholarly research doing fieldwork alongside professors and grad students. On other programs, we are gaining knowledge and skills and working to protect precious global resources. It is our goal that by the end of your ARCC Focus Program you are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about all aspects of the program’s focus topic.

SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAMS

ARCC Service Learning Programs provide authentic and meaningful service-learning opportunities for our students. Using travel as a backdrop, these programs are designed to be rich, fulfilling experiences that make a positive impact both on the communities we work with and on our own students. Together we discuss and consider all aspects of this experience and tackle tough questions such as “Are we really doing ‘good?” and “What are the pros and cons of voluntourism?”. It is our goal that by the end of your ARCC Service Learning Program, you have had meaningful encounters with the peoples and the lands you have visited and come away proud of the impact you have made.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

An experience such as those offered on an ARCC program are something that we hope to make accessible for all students, and ARCC works to level the playing field so that all applicants may have a successful opportunity for education, travel, growth, and self-discovery. We strive to uphold these pillars of our organization through a variety of means.

ARCC Programs offers need-based financial aid. Each year ARCC gives approximately $75,000 in financial aid to qualified students. ARCC also has a scholarship program for our gap programs that is for BIPOC identifying students. Please contact us for more information on our financial aid program. Please know that aid is awarded based on need, program availability, and overall aid available.

While there is no experience necessary to participate in an ARCC program, there are some critical attributes that we expect of all ARCC participants. We expect students to maintain high standards of personal behavior. A successful ARCC program requires participants to have a positive and unselfish attitude on the program as well as an open mind and flexibility. ARCC programs are ‘hard work, hard play’. We hope everyone will actively commit to all the program’s activities, as teamwork is often required for the experience to be successful. ARCC does not tolerate the possession or use of tobacco products, illegal drugs, or alcohol. Any

student found possessing or engaging in one of these activities will be sent home immediately at their own expense and without refund. We take great pride in creating the best possible program itineraries. The descriptions of the programs provided in this catalog and on our website represent our current plans. However certain aspects of the program or itinerary may change based on local conditions. Service projects can change based on the needs of the communities, schools, non-profits, NGOs, and other organizations. To get the most out of an ARCC experience, participants must be flexible and open to potential changes.

Over the past four decades, over 25,000 students from around the world have joined ARCC on unforgettable adventures across six continents. With over 300,000 miles traveled, that’s a lot of memories and stories! But don’t just take our word for it, listen to what alumni and their families have to say about their ARCC experience!

I always find my kids in a great head space upon return from an ARCC trip. They are calm, tired, energized and so fulfilled by the people they have met and the adventures they have experienced. They always walk off the airplane and tell me what trip they want to go on NEXT summer!!
