MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT September 25, 2021 Dear Friends, Welcome to the Catholic Association of Latino Leaders’ 2021 Angels Awards and Gala. Tonight’s event by the Los Angeles Chapter of CALL gathers members and friends for an evening to celebrate angels among us. We salute our special honorees tonight: Mr. Tom Blumenthal (CEO, Geary’s), Dr. Ann McElaneyJohnson (President, Mount. St. Mary’s University), our Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles, and Guadalupe Radio. Tonight, you’ll hear more about their tremendous contributions to the community and our local Church. Their service, like our angel honorees of past years, are examples of love for God and commitment to one another. We’re also excited to be gathering at our spiritual home – the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. For the last twenty years we have truly come to know this sacred space as “our” cathedral. What a fitting location to honor our local angels under the watchful guidance of the Queen of Angels. I thank all of you, especially our sponsors and donors. Your commitment to our organization is so appreciated. Your support tonight allows our mission to continue. In Los Angeles, CALL is dedicated to: • Catholic education from elementary school to college • Fostering youth and young adult ministry opportunities • Its membership, providing moments for professional and spiritual growth Our world has changed since our last Gala in 2019. Tonight, we honor the memory of family and friends lost to this insidious virus. We join in prayer for those who suffer, all who provide care and medical relief and that we soon be lifted from all fear and harm. We gather tonight in joyful hope of brighter days ahead. Tonight, let us come together and recognize all the angels among us. Wrapped in the protective garment of Our Lady of the Angels and bounded forever in our baptismal heritage, let us march forward together. Have a great evening,

Michael Molina, President Catholic Association of Latino Leaders / Los Angeles Chapter

CARMELITE SISTERS of the most SACRED HEART OF LOS ANGELES Religious Service Award The Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Catholic Association of Latino Leaders in honoring our work in service to the Latino community in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The roots of our community were sown in Mexico and the love our foundress, Venerable Mother Luisita, had for her native land was imbued in the fledgling community in the United States and is something that continues to be very much a part of who we are. May God reward all the members of the Catholic Association of Latino Leaders for your support of Latino Catholics in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Be assured of our prayers.

GUADALUPE RADIO Entertainment Award Created in 2006, Guadalupe Radio is a nonprofit organization that brings together all the voices of Catholicism with a talk radio format to fulfill its commitment to form, entertain and educate in human values. It is a comforting resource and faithful companion in good and bad times because it addresses the problems the community faces in their daily lives. Guadalupe Radio reaches an audience that includes migrants and underserved communities. The station provides content entirely in Spanish from psychologists, family counselors, Catholic priests, motivators, and experts in personal development. Guadalupe Radio is a leader amongst radio stations in the digital age. Newly modernized radio studios and a chapel with state-of-the-art technology allow it to broadcast daily formative radio content and a live Holy Mass, all of which are also available via mobile and TV apps. This has been a valuable resource to the Catholic Latino community in the US, especially during the pandemic. In 2019 Guadalupe Radio expanded the radio broadcast from Los Angeles to San Diego. In 2020, the station increased its visual radio presence through Los Angeles TV channel 6.1 KHTV and via its App on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Google TV. In 2021, it began producing several podcast series and TV shows. Its unique programming, dedicated audience in California, plus four million followers on its social media platform, make it one of the most important Spanish language radio stations in the country.

ROSIE CHINEA SHAWVER CALL Executive Director, National Office Thank you for joining us for our 9th annual Los Angeles Gala. Because of your generosity we have made an impact in our local community, serving those most in need through Catholic education. Now more than ever, our ongoing assistance to these students and families is vital. The Catholic Association of Latino Leaders (CALL) is at the crux of an important moment in our Church and country. Hispanics that identify as Catholic represent the largest, youngest, and fastest growing group in the United States. However, the fastest population leaving the Catholic Church are also Hispanics. We have a tremendous opportunity to grow the Catholic Church and strengthen the fabric of our society through the formation of lay Catholic Latino leadership. If you are interested in joining this mission through becoming a CALL member, please contact Rosie Chinea Shawver, Executive Director at rosie@call-usa.org.
