Making Summers Historic

5 museums and galleries in Bahrain worth visiting this summer.

Let’s be honest, when it’s 40 degrees and rising, most of us are just looking for somewhere cool to hide.

But if you’re already tired of malls and the usual café loop, museums are an underrated (and wonderfully air-conditioned) way to spend a couple of hours.

Whether you’re looking for inspiration, history, or just a quiet space to reset, these five museums and galleries in Bahrain are absolutely worth a visit — especially during the summer months.

What To Do?

Al Riwaq Art Space — Gufool

Al Riwaq has been part of Bahrain’s creative fabric since the late ’90s. It recently reopened in Gufool, tucked behind residential buildings, and feels more like an artist’s home than a typical museum.

The exhibitions here lean toward the experimental — installation work, photography, zines, maybe even a film screening. You’ll find artists from Bahrain and across the region challenging ideas through their work. The building also houses a café and community library, which makes it a nice spot to linger.

Good for: Slow afternoons, creative energy, browsing without pressure.

RAK Art Foundation — Riffa

Not many people think of Riffa when it comes to galleries, which is why the RAK Art Foundation often flies under the radar. It’s housed in the childhood home of Sheikh Rashid Al Khalifa, but you wouldn’t know it from the outside. Step inside and it’s a beautifully curated space with clean walls, gentle lighting, and a real sense of calm.

The collection mixes works from local and international artists — it’s not flashy, but it’s thoughtful. If you’re someone who likes to look slowly and think about what you’re seeing, this one’s for you.

Best for: A peaceful solo afternoon or a cultural detour with friends who appreciate architecture and quiet beauty.

Bahrain National Museum — Manama

This is the obvious choice — and for good reason. The Bahrain National Museum is still the best place to get a handle on the island’s history, especially if you’ve got visitors in town or haven’t been since a school trip.

There’s archaeology, old manuscripts, traditional Bahraini clothing, and one of the most peaceful museum cafés you’ll find. The upper gallery usually features exhibitions from regional artists, and the building itself, located by the sea, is worth a visit even if you skip the displays.

What To Do?

Tip: Go in the morning for fewer crowds and better light. You can even take a boat ride to the nearby Bu Maher Fort!

Bahrain Fort Museum — Karbabad

Small but solid. This museum sits right next to Qal’at al-Bahrain — the ancient fort — and gives context to everything around it. You’ll see pottery, tools, and maps unearthed from the site, with explanations that actually help you appreciate what’s outside.

It’s a good place to start before walking the fort grounds, especially around sunset when the breeze off the water finally kicks in.

Worth it if: You’re into archaeology, ruins, or just want a break from indoor spaces that still feels grounded in nature.

While you’re there: Grab a drink or light bite at Green Bar Café, tucked just near the fort entrance. It’s a cozy, botanical-inspired space that feels like a hidden retreat — great for a post-museum unwind.

Bahrain Post Museum — Manama

Okay, hear us out — this one is low-key awesome. Housed in the old post office, this compact museum is a love letter to Bahrain’s postal history. Vintage stamps, quirky postboxes, and even a few handwritten letters from decades ago. It doesn’t try to be flashy, and that’s part of the charm.

It won’t take more than 30 minutes to explore, but it’s a fun stop if you’re in the area or want something a little different from the usual.

Tip: Great for families with young kids, or for pairing with a nearby coffee stop.

A Quick Note Before You Go

None of these museums will demand much from you — no tickets to book in advance, no long lines. Just cool spaces, interesting work, and a quiet few hours away from the heat. If you’re looking for things to do in Bahrain this summer that don’t involve sweating through your clothes, keep this list saved.

Your brain (and body) will thank you. n

The All-New HONGQI H9

A confident step into the luxury automotive market

Abold new player is shaking up the automotive scene, redefining what modern luxury can look and feel like. With massaging seats, a hightech cabin, and a sleek, attention-grabbing design, the all-new HONGQI H9 positions itself as China’s standout entry into the executive sedan segment. It doesn’t chase tradition — it challenges it, offering a fresh perspective on comfort, innovation, and presence on the road.

Bold First Impressions

At first glance, the HONGQI H9 cuts a distinguished figure. It’s not trying to hide in the crowd. Up front, a newly styled grille with dynamic air intake immediately demands attention. Flanked by sleek LED headlights that elegantly wrap around the front corners, the H9’s face is all about modern drama. Chrome accents subtly trace the signature HONGQI red line— running from the centre of the grille and continuing down the bonnet—giving the car a touch of ceremony.

Refined Side Profile and Striking Rear

The side profile keeps things elegant. There’s a flowing silhouette that feels refined but not overly formal. Chrome detailing carries on from the front, tying the entire look together with visual consistency. The black multi-spoke rims add a sporty edge to an otherwise regal shape.

At the rear, the H9 stays bold: a wide LED light bar stretches across the boot lid, bookended by sharp lines and dual exhaust outlets. This isn’t just design for design’s sake—there’s clear intent here, a desire to be seen and remembered.

Rear Cabin: Where the H9 Truly Shines

But if the exterior is about presence, the interior is all about experience. The magic really unfolds in the rear cabin—often the true test of any executive sedan. Here, the H9 delivers something unexpected. The VIP rear seats offer a near-first-class

experience, with deep recline options, a dedicated touchscreen panel for climate control, and yes, built-in massaging functions. This isn’t just a novelty either— massage seats are also available upfront, so the driver doesn’t miss out.

Natural light pours in through a large panoramic roof, further elevating the ambience. Passengers will find no shortage of storage and functional compartment spaces throughout the cabin, adding to the sense of thoughtful luxury. Need to work on the go? Foldable tables in the rear make that easy. Want to stay connected? A wireless phone charger and a high-end infotainment system are both part of the package.

Driver-Focused Tech and Comfort

Up front, the driver’s area isn’t neglected. A fully digital dash greets you with clean, modern graphics and intuitive controls. The air conditioning interface is easily accessible and doesn’t feel buried in touch menus. The steering wheel feels just right in hand—weighted enough for road feedback, but not so heavy it becomes a chore.

Smooth Power and Confident Handling

As far as driving dynamics go, the H9 may surprise those expecting a floaty ride. With a 3.0-litre V6 supercharged engine producing 322 horsepower and power delivered to all four wheels, it handles itself with calm authority. It’s smooth, quiet, and assured, exactly what you’d expect from a car of this stature.

Intuitive Technology Integration

What HONGQI has done especially well is integrate technology into the driving and passenger experience

without overcomplicating it. The central infotainment screen is high-definition, responsive, and thankfully free from lag. It’s part of a cockpit design that feels thoroughly modern without shouting about it. You’ll find advanced driver assistance systems and the usual connectivity features expected in this segment, all neatly packaged without overwhelming the user.

Premium Materials and Craftsmanship

Another point worth mentioning: material quality. The premium leather seats, available in various colours, feel supple and well-finished. There’s an unmistakable focus on craftsmanship here—not just for show, but for durability and genuine comfort. The use of materials across the cabin feels cohesive and elevated, never dipping into cost-cutting territory.

A Statement, Not an Imitation

The HONGQI H9 brings its own design language, prioritises rear-seat luxury, and offers a driving experience that feels confident. The H9 represents a moment in China’s automotive journey where design, tech, and luxury converge into a product that can stand alongside global competitors.

Bold, self-assured, and thoroughly enjoyable to spend time in, this is a sedan that makes a quiet but firm case for itself. Whether you’re in the driver’s seat or stretched out in the back, you’ll walk away impressed. It’s a compelling proposition for those who want something just a little different. n

Grit, Passion, and the Winning Spirit

EWe speak to Jude Andrews, a champion driver in the making who’s making his name in the Karting arena

ight Karting rounds, seven podiums, four race wins, two pole positions, and a lap time of 58.081 – this isn’t the driver profile of an F1 contender, but of one in the making.

At 13 years old, Jude Andrews is fast becoming a name to watch in Bahrain’s karting scene, racking up one achievement after another. Just six months after he first got behind the wheel, Jude delivered a standout rookie season, finishing as Vice Champion (mini category) in the Bahrain ROTAX MAX Championship (BRMC) at the Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC). As the leading karting series in the Gulf region, BRMC draws top drivers of all ages and nationalities, each competing in their Rotax-powered kart.

In the high-energy world of motorsport, where adrenaline and ambition come together on track, Jude is carving a path of his own, backed by his team, Praga Racing, and his parents by his side.

The Andrews family has called Bahrain home since 2023. David Andrews, Jude’s father, works as a logistics management specialist with the Defense Logistics Agency Energy Middle East. While father and son had always bonded over a shared love of motorsports, neither expected Jude to take to the sport quite so quickly.

“If I win, you take me karting to BIKC,” Jude once challenged his father at a neighbourhood track. That playful dare turned out to be the start of something ambitious. “That’s when I realised he wasn’t just interested; he truly believed in himself,” David recalls. “We just want to support him and watch him go as far as he can.”

Now moving up to the Junior category, Jude’s ambition is clear: Formula 1. His ultimate dream? To race for Mercedes AMG Petronas, following in the footsteps of one of his idols, Lewis Hamilton. To get there, Jude and his support system must navigate the world of motorsport, securing sponsorships, and maintaining motivation.

We caught up with Jude to talk about his journey, his racing heroes, and what’s going through his mind as he prepares for the next lap of his career.

What got you into karting, and when did you know it was something you wanted to stick with?

I first got into karting when I was lucky

enough to race against Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris and the McLaren F1 team in February 2024. I was visiting BIKC with my mum and dad and the team was there doing a media shoot. Driving the karts against them was so much fun, and it sparked my interest in racing. After this, I decided to do a 6-week training course at the BIKC to develop my skills. I knew karting was something I was going to stick with when I was offered the chance to drive with the Praga Middle East team.

What goes through your mind while you’re racing? Do you do anything special to stay focused or calm?

Before every race, I think positively and hope that I stay safe and do well. I always focus on giving my best performance, and I remember everything I have learnt in my practice sessions. When I’m driving, I don’t think about anything else. It is important to focus on every turn to maximise my performance.

You had an impressive rookie season. What’s been your proudest moment so far?

The Round 8 race was the proudest moment of my season. Winning the pre-final and the final races meant everything to me, as I had worked so hard in my practice sessions up to that point. It showed me that racing isn’t just about winning, it’s about the journey to get there. The wins made every training session worth it. I wasn’t expecting to finish the 2024-2025 season as ViceChampion, but the hard work paid off.

You’re now moving up a category. What changes are you expecting, and how are you preparing? I am expecting the junior kart to handle

differently. The acceleration, top speed, steering, and braking will be completely different, and I am constantly working to adjust my lines and fine-tune my driving, working towards a race win in this new category. I have been using a personal trainer to prepare my body for the demands of the bigger kart and have also been working on my reflexes to keep my mind sharp.

If you could race anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

My dream circuit to race at would be PF International, which is a karting track in England. It would mean a lot to me to drive there as it is in my home country (England). Hopefully, I can race there one day and secure a podium.

Who is your driver icon and why?

Max Verstappen is my driver icon. He mastered the art of racing at a young age, is great at overtaking and drives well in all conditions. He is one of the best drivers in Formula 1 currently and he stands out due to his aggressive driving style.

Outside of karting, what do you enjoy doing to relax or have fun?

Outside of karting, I enjoy playing football, basketball, and swimming, and of course, spending time with my family and friends. n

Into The WILD

A new Friday Brunch has arrived in Bahrain.

Bahrain’s brunch scene isn’t short on options, and it’s safe to say we’re spoilt for choice. From party brunches to five-star buffets, the formula is familiar. But every so often, a new one comes along that shakes things up just enough. The WILD Brunch at Sheraton Bahrain Hotel is one such addition—and after visiting it ourselves, we can say it’s worth checking out.

WHERE TO EAT?

Set inside the newly renovated Sheraton, the WILD Brunch offers a relaxed but stylish way to ease into your weekend, with good food, great service, and an atmosphere that doesn’t try too hard.

First Impressions: Light, Space, and a Bit of Green

The first thing you’ll notice when you walk into the newly renovated Sheraton Bahrain Hotel is just how much brighter and more open the space feels. Long-anticipated on the island, the hotel’s transformation is striking, contemporary, and inviting. Natural light floods the interiors, creating a warm atmosphere. The new Sheraton is completely different from the one we knew.

At WILD, we found ourselves in a space that’s minimalist and yet extremely welcoming, with clean lines, natural textures, and plenty of greenery. There’s even a dedicated microgreens unit by the kitchen, used in dishes served at brunch—a thoughtful detail that reflects the restaurant’s emphasis on freshness and sustainability. With ample room between tables and soft lighting throughout, it’s a calm, well-designed setting for a relaxed Friday afternoon.

The Food: Fresh and Well Thought-Out

Unlike most brunches that go down the buffet route, WILD sticks to an à la carte menu with dishes meant to be shared. Each dish we tried came out fresh, plated nicely, and—most importantly— tasted good.

From starters to mains, the food felt considered. It’s not trying to be overly experimental, but there’s attention to detail, and the ingredients speak for themselves. Nothing felt heavy or rushed. The pace of service was just right too—enough time to relax between courses without feeling forgotten.

For those who enjoy a drink with brunch, there are multiple packages. Our drinks were topped up regularly, and the staff were consistently attentive throughout.

The Atmosphere: Calm, with Just the Right Energy

There’s a clear effort to create an experience that feels social but not overwhelming. A live musician was performing during our visit, giving the space a lift without being intrusive. The sound levels were just right—you could still have a conversation without raising your voice.

We stayed indoors for most of the afternoon but stepped outside briefly later in the day to enjoy a bit of sunshine. The outdoor seating near the pool is a nice option when the weather allows. It adds a touch of brightness to the experience if you feel like stretching your legs or soaking up some sun (weather permitting).

Final Take

The WILD Brunch at Sheraton Bahrain stands out among the top brunches on the island. It’s clearly designed for people who enjoy good food and good company without the usual noise.

The food is fresh and enjoyable, the service is attentive, and the setting is modern and comfortable. It might not be the most extravagant brunch on the island, but it delivers exactly what it sets out to—an easygoing Friday with thoughtful details and a solid dining experience.

If you’re looking for something different but still polished, WILD is a welcome addition to the brunch lineup. n

The Morning Fix

Best breakfast spots in Riffa –top 6 picks for 2025

Discover 6 must-try breakfast places in Riffa — from local classics like Emmawash and Al Kwar to modern cafés serving shakshouka, pancakes, and more.

Riffa might not be the first place that comes to mind when people think “breakfast destination” in Bahrain — but that’s exactly why it surprises you. Over the past few years, it’s quietly built a strong lineup of cafés, homegrown spots, and traditional kitchens that serve everything from croissant sandwiches to balaleet and Karak.

Whether you’re fueling up before a long day or making time for a slow, late breakfast, these are some of the best breakfast spots in Riffa right now.

My Cafe Riffa

This is one of the neighbourhood’s go-to morning spots. The interiors are clean, minimal, and calming — and the food leans upscale without being over the top. The menu spans both indulgent and balanced options, from Turkish eggs to smoked brisket toast and stuffed croissants. Their iced lattes and fresh juice blend round out the morning perfectly. It’s the kind of place where students, moms, and creatives all cross paths.

What to try: Short Ribs Florentine or Babka French Toast.

Oak

Set inside Riffa Views, Oak is a solid pick if you’re into bright, hearty breakfasts that feel both filling and fresh. Their signature dishes include wholesome options like the Mushroom Toast — layered with sautéed

mushrooms and poached eggs — and the Farmer’s Breakfast, which includes eggs your way, roasted veggies, and grilled sourdough. It’s a relaxed space with lots of natural light and plenty of regulars.

Go for: Farmer’s Breakfast or Mushroom Toast.

Agora

One of Riffa’s more relaxed breakfast spots, Agora leans Mediterranean with subtle Levantine and Greek influences. Their Labneh Avocado Toast is a crowd favorite, and the menu also includes savory options like eggs with sujuk, crispy halloumi, and honey-drizzled feta flatbreads. The atmosphere is cozy and grounded — it’s the kind of place where you lose track of time.

Best for: Catching up with a friend or easing into your weekend.

Al Kwar

This one’s all about keeping it real. Al Kwar is known for traditional Bahraini breakfast — eggs with tomato, grilled

WHERE TO

tikka, liver masala, and a big pot of strong tea. The setting is no-frills, but the flavors are solid and the service is quick.

Perfect if you’re craving: A proper local breakfast with no fancy extras.

Sash Cafe

Sash is where modern café culture meets a bit of old-school hospitality. You’ll find thick-cut French toast, mushroom omelettes, and solid flat whites. It has a loyal Riffa following, and its seasonal specials keep the menu fresh.

Good for: A casual breakfast date or laidback work session.

Emmawash (Riffa)

If you’re looking to show a visitor what Bahraini breakfast is all about, Emmawash is a must. It’s colourful, family-friendly, and the food is both nostalgic and filling. You’ll want to order a few things to share: keema, bajella, eggplant with eggs, and karak on the side.

Best with: A group of friends, so you can try everything.n

Très Délicieux

French cafés and restaurants you need to check out

in Bahrain.

DYou don’t need a visa to find yourself seated in an authentic French café or restaurant; not when Bahrain is serving up flaky croissants, the Parisian bistro charm, and Michelin-style magic across the island.
