Why the name 'Fish'?

In 1934 when Ken Kelsall first attended CBC Perth 'Fish' was the term universally in use to describe the bread and jam afternoon snack that was provided for the boarders. At the time Ken was told that the term had its origins in the earliest days of the College. In an article by Bob Hannah in the 'Fish' of November 1962 (p13) two very similar accounts, one from Sir Thomas Meagher and one from Reg Cooper, speak of the tradition springing from the first day of the College's existence, and 'Fish-Ho!' Being shouted to call the boys to their afternoon snack. The practice of giving boarders an afternoon snack named 'Fish' was continued when the move to Mount Henry was made in 1938.
