DOSING PUMPS & CONTROL SYSTEMS

Control Is The Key To Water Quality And So Much More!

Increasingly high tech dosing pumps and control systems are the unsung heroes in many water leisure set ups. With a need for reliability, these often essential pieces of equipment quietly ensure safe conditions for those using the water, plus many systems also provide much more too, an assist in making the management of pools and spas a much more straightforward task. The convenience they provide has made the life of both owners and operators much simpler, and here, we highlight a selection of what’s available By Jon Wadeson

ystems that expertly control the precise treatment of water along with other pool and spa related equipment are a must in today’s commercial sector and are also sought after by an ever-greater number of tech-savvy consumers too. So what are the benefits of automatic dosing and control systems? The biggest has to be safety. To have equipment installed that recognises, reacts and then treats frequently changing bather loads and ensures that water users are protected from any unseen ‘horrors’ that may lurk in the water and in doing so, provides peace of mind to owners and operators that is quite frankly priceless. From a water nasties point of view, perfectly regulated pool water is the first line of defence in providing a safe and trouble free wet leisure experience for bathers. It also ensures swimmers’ skin and eyes are not irritated by spent chlorine or water that has an out of balance pH. Any guesswork is removed from the water treatment process, allowing owners and operators to spend less time testing and guessing, leaving them to pass the responsibility over to the automated marvels that efficiently take control. The automation and management duties of many of these systems often extends beyond just the supervision of water quality and when set up, they can be responsible for anything from maintenance to lighting, heating to even audio and entertainment systems – all can now be controlled and often that control is available remotely too. Today’s automated systems offer more than just precision. They also put a big emphasis on flexibility, reliability and convenience and in doing so, have made it easier than ever to ensure perfect water management and so much more, all with as little effort and input as possible as the next pages will highlight.

LUTZ JESCO’S MEMDOS SMART RANGE OFFERS ACCURACY AND CONVENIENCE Solenoid dosing pumps have been the mainstay for chemical dosing applications within swimming pool water treatment over the last several decades from dosing of sodium hypochlorite or calcium hypochlorite for disinfection and hydrochloric acid for pH correction. Initially dosing pumps employed stroke length adjustment to alter output by reducing the volumetric stroke per pulse and then manual speed in addition to regulate the

stroke frequency, i.e. number of strokes per minute. In the last two decades, dosing pumps have seen tremendous developments that include digital displays highlighting flow rate in l/h or ml/h making them easier to use within all chemical metering applications and to automatic degassing heads or valves for sodium hypochlorite. Lutz Jesco have built on these developments with their Memdos Smart metering pumps that feature a removable display for wall mounting when pump installation is difficult to access. A clear user interface with structured menu navigation ensures simple and understandable operation plus password protection is freely adjustable for different menu areas, thus allowing different user levels / releases. With the new stepper motor technology, even the smallest quantities can be metered with a high degree of accuracy. Memdos Smart LBX/LDX options with variable speed stepper motor dosing pumps offer quieter, smoother and almost continuous dosing for chlorine and acid with the company’s Memdos Smart LDX 2 model proving to be an ideal pump for dosing PAC down at 2.5ml/h.
