As many across the UK hot tub industry may be aware, David Hayes of Hydropool Devon, who are BISHTA and BSPF members, suffered a catastrophic injury and sustained a life changing spinal cord injury during a holiday in Ibiza with his wife Elly and their two children earlier this year. Whilst diving in the sea, David broke the C5 vertebrae in his neck, damaging the C4-C6 section of his spinal cord. David has been diagnosed as quadriplegic, meaning he is permanently paralysed from the chest down and has no use of his limbs, although there is hope that intensive rehabilitation and advancements in medical science, will help improve the current situation for the family. David faces 24-hour medical care and rehabilitation for the foreseeable future, and vast adaptations to his home. Funds are being raised to ensure David has the best quality of life, with access to first-rate care, high quality therapies and the latest in assistive technologies. While Elly is supporting him and their children, she is undergoing radiotherapy treatment herself, and also managing their businesses and the overwhelming volume of administrative tasks that come with these circumstances. To follow David’s progress or to reach out and share messages of support, please visit ‘David’s Determination’ page which is being regularly updated with David’s progress on both Facebook or Instagram. To assist David in his rehabilitation journey, you can also visit his GoFundMe page: gofund.me/a7dcca59b Any support means the world to both David and Elly, and any donations will make a difference in improving David’s quality of life.
