2020 A su paso, el 2020 lo ha puesto todo patas arriba. Y no es que haya traído desorden. Simplemente, ha cambiado el orden. En este contexto, la resiliencia es un valor que cotiza al alza. Por suerte, Menorca es una isla resiliente. Vemos cómo la actividad cultural y económica se recupera poco a poco, cómo la confianza vuelve. Y todo ello pese al runrún de fondo que provoca la incertidumbre y gracias a la iniciativa de tantas y tantas personas que, como nosotras, han decidido mantener el rumbo. Todos hemos entendido que la rueda gira si nos movemos a la vez, a ser posible con un ritmo sostenible. Cierto es que la adaptación lleva su tiempo. Y por eso también la guía Apunt Menorca sale con el verano ya empezado, y con la provisionalidad a la que obligan los tiempos que vivimos. Pero sale con todo y más: con un Outside renovado, con más de 300 actividades en la Agenda y con los mejores comercios y restaurantes en Hotspots y Eat & Drink. Por eso queremos decir “gracias” a todos los valientes que este año han optado por mantener la confianza, también en nuestro proyecto. «Fortes fortuna adiuvat». So far, things have all gone pear-shaped in 2020. It’s not so much that the year has caused havoc, it’s more that it’s changed things. In this context, resilience is a value that is steadily on the rise. And, fortunately, Menorca is a resilient island. We’re starting to see the gradual recovery of culture and economy, with everyone feeling a bit more confident. However, despite this undercurrent concern which is causing uncertainty, there are so many people who, like us, have decided to pick up the reins and keep going. We’ve all clocked that the ball keeps rolling so long as we work together, and in the most sustainable way possible. Of course, adapting is going to take time, and that’s why we at Apunt Menorca are publishing our edition with summer already well on the way, adapting ourselves to this temporary situation that the circumstances dictate. Here it is with all sorts of information and more: with an updated ‘Outside’, more than 300 activities featuring in the ‘Agenda’ and the very best shops and restaurants in ‘Hotspots’ and ‘Eat & Drink’. De hecho, podríamos decir que es la isla impresicindible. Toda ella, de norte a sur y de este a oeste. Aún así, vamos a intentar seleccionar lo mejor de la mejor. Empezamos! PUEBLOS DE MENORCA TOWNS IN MENORCA Los pueblos son la expresión más certera del carácter de un territorio. Y por esa razón son nuestros primeros imprescindibles. PLAYAS Y CALAS BEACHES AND COVES Menorca tiene una superficie aproximada de 700 km2 y un total de119 playas y calas repartidas a lo largo de sus más de 200 km de costa! CALESFONTS Este pequeño puerto es uno de los rincones más pintorescos de la isla. Lo mejor: pasear por el muelle al atardecer y cenar en una de sus terrazas. One of the most picturesque corners of the island. A perfect plan: stroll along the dock at sunset and dine on a lovely terrace.

EL TORO Es la cima más alta de Menorca con 358 m. de altura. Aquí encontrarás el Santuario de la Virgen del Toro (s. XVII). Magnífica vista panorámica sobre la isla. BARRANCOS RAVINES No te vayas de Menorca sin visitar los espectaculares barrancos de Algendar (Ferreries) y Binigaus (Es Migjorn). Imprescindibles: la Cova dels Pardals, en el barranco de Binigaus, y el Pas d’en Revull, en el de Algendar. LAZARETO El de Maó fue el primer lazareto de España (siglos XVIII-XIX). Se construyó para aislar a los barcos o personas procedentes de países contaminados o sospechosos de contagio. Haz una visita guiada. Vale la pena. Mira la p. 103. The one in Maó was the first quarantine hospital in Spain (18th and 19th Centuries). LA CATEDRAL CATHEDRAL Perteneciente al gótico catalán, la catedral fue construida entre los siglos XIII y XIV en el mismo lugar que antes ocupaba la mezquita mayor de la medina. Fue restaurada en los siglos XVI y XIX. In Catalan gothic style, the cathedral was built between the 13th and 14th C. in the same place on which the main Medina mosque had been built. MERCADOS MARKETS
Con cerca de 5 km de longitud, es el segundo puerto natural más grande del mundo, solo por detrás del de Pearl Harbour. Buena oferta gastronómica y de ocio.

SANITJA Puerto natural tradicional situado en la península de Cavalleria, al norte de la isla. Cerca de aquí se encuentra el yacimiento romano de Sanisera. Un imprescindible de Menorca. A natural and traditional port situated on the Cavalleria promontory in the north of the Island. The Roman archaeological site of Sanisera is nearby. Not to be missed.
SANTA ÀGUEDA En la cima de Santa Àgueda se pueden visitar los restos de un antiguo castillo musulmán (siglos X-XIII). El camino de acceso conserva el empedrado original. Vistas espectaculares. The remains of an ancient Muslim castle are preserved at the top of Santa Àgueda Mountain. The access path is made up of its original cobbles Spectacular views.

TORRE DE FORNELLS
Fortaleza construida por los británicos entre 1710 y 1726. La mayor parte está excavada en la roca y no es visible desde el exterior. Interesante para conocer la historia de Europa en el siglo XVIII.
Construida por los británicos a principios del siglo XIX, es una de las torres más grandes y mejor conservadas de Menorca (hay 14 torres en el litoral pertenecientes a este periodo). Abierta a visitas.
Fortress built by the British between 1710 and 1726. The main part is excavated in the rock and it is not visible from the outside. It is of interest in order to learn about European history in the 18th Century.

This is the largest settlement of the island. It preserves a wide range of structures such as ‘talayots’, houses, hypogeums… Visit the information centre of the archaeological site.
This is the only funerary structure of its kind in the world. The remains of one hundred people were found here. The ‘navetas’ of Rafael Rubí are found in Alaior.

BERENJENAS AL HORNO BAKED AUBERGINES Receta muy sabrosa. Se elabora a partir de un sofrito (cebolla, ajo, tomate, pimiento, huevo y berenjena) y luego se hornea en las mismas barquitas con pan rallado. It is made with a “sofrito” of onions, garlic, tomatoes, peppers, egg and aubergines and it is cooked topped with breadcrumbs in the oven.
RAYA AL HORNO BAKED SKATE La raya es un pescado muy apreciado en la isla. Esta receta se conoce como perol y se elabora con papata, tomate, ajo, perejil y pan rallado. Skate is very popular on the island. This recipe is made with potato, tomato, garlic, parsley and breadcrumbs.
ARRÒS DE LA TERRA No es un plato de arroz al uso. El ingrediente principal es el trigo molido y se acompaña de carne de cerdo, tomate, patata y ajo. Se cocina al horno. It is not a usual rice dish. The main ingredient is ground flour accompanied by pork, tomatoes, potatoes and garlic. It is cooked in the oven.
OLIAIGUA Sopa caliente hecha con cebolla, tomates y pimiento verde. En la mesa se acompaña de higos y pan tostado. Es una de las recetas menorquinas más auténticas y también humildes.. A hot soup made from onions, tomatoes and green peppers. It is served with figs and toasted bread. It is one of the most humble Menorca recipes.
SALSA MAHONESA MAYONNAISE Tiene su origen en Menorca. Aparece con el nombre de “ailioli bo” en un recetario local del siglo XVIII. Los franceses la importaron y la internacionalizaron. It originated in Menorca. It appears under the name of “allioli bo” in a local recipe of the 18th Century. The French imported it and made it internationally known.

MÚSICA A LA RECONQUESTA Todos los jueves del mes de julio habrá música en vivo en la plaza de la Conquesta de Maó. Con el título «Música a la Reconquesta», Clariana Productions ha dado forma a un “festival km 0” en el que participarán destacadas formaciones locales de géneros tan diversos como el folk, el jazz o el pop-rock. Toma nota de los conciertos: Cris Juanico – Salpols (2/07), Anna Szostak Quartet (9/07), Shanti Gordi (16/07), D’Estraperlo (23/07) y Figues d’un altre paner (30/07). Todos los conciertos son gratuitos y empiezan a las 20.30 h. Este año habrá hasta nueve actuaciones de música, danza y teatro en escenarios idílicos como Binibèquer Vell, Alcaufar o la playa de Binissafúller. FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CINE DE MENORCA En un año difícil, el Festival Internacional de Cine de Menorca se afianza con más cortos a concurso, una programación actual y de alcance internacional, y la presencia de figuras del cine como Carlos Bardem, Ingrid García-Jonsson, Aida Folch o Marta Bayarri. Refuerza, además, el cine familiar y los talleres para jóvenes, así como las actividades complementarias (música, gastronomía y arte). Reestrenada en 1942 en versión sonora, optó a los Óscar en la categoría de “Mejor banda sonora original”. La propuesta de la Orquestra de Cambra Illa de Menorca recupera la película con la interpretación en directo de la banda sonora. = «The Gold Rush» is one of the major films in cinema history. Rescreened with sound in 1942, it was nominated for the Oscars in the category of "Best Original Soundtrack". OCIM has recovered the film with its live soundtrack.

SANT JORDI D’ESTIU Los menorquines no estaban dispuestos a quedarse sin su fiesta del libro. Así que tres meses después y con el nombre de «Sant Jordi d’Estiu», Maó, Ciutadella, Alaior, Es Mercadal y Ferreries celebrarán las letras. Como es tradición, las librerías saldrán a la calle y habrá actividades culturales y de promoción de la lectura. = We Menorcans didn’t want to forget about our annual Book Fair. So, three months on, and with the name «Sant Jordi d’Estiu», Maó, Ciutadella, Alaior, Es Mercadal and Ferreries will celebrate literature. All the bookshops will set up stalls on the street as usual, and there will be both cultural activities and promotion of reading.

Egon Soda repasará en Es Claustre su repertorio más íntimo e interpretará en acústico algunos de sus clásicos. La banda de rock alternativo se mueve entre el sonido folk americano y los registros negroides, más presentes en su último disco, «El rojo y el negro» (2018). = Egon Soda will be performing its innermost repertoire and some of its classic acoustic pieces at Es Claustre. This alternative rock band goes from American sound to the Afro-American rhythm featuring in their latest album, «El rojo y el negro» (2018).

MENORCA MUSIC FESTIVAL Es Mercadal acoge este verano el Menorca Music Festival, cita cultural que se estrena este año con algunas de las voces más representativas de la escena indie-pop nacional. Sofia Ellar, Arnau Griso, Nel Moliner y La Bien Querida, ésta última en formato acústico, son los principales reclamos de un cartel en el que también destacan los nombres de Ramon Mirabet, Sinsinati y Suu (echa un vistazo al listado de la agenda) El festival, que se declara abiertamente sostenible y solidario, tendrá un espacio gastronómico con food trucks y un mercado de artesanía local. = Es Mercadal is hosting the Menorca Music Festival this year, with performances by some of the most important musicians on the national indie/pop scene. Nel Moliner and La Bien Querida, the latter on acoustics, are the main attractions in a programme that also includes Sinsinati and Suu. El Auditori de Ferreries nos vuelve a regalar un verano de cine. Todos los domingos de julio y agosto (excepto el 23/08 por coincidir con las fiestas de Sant Bartomeu) proyectarán una película estrenada recientemente con éxito de público y crítica (ver listado de agenda). CRANC FESTIVAL 2020 Prevista para el mes de mayo, la cuarta edición del CRANC Festival tuvo que modificar fechas y trasladarse a septiembre. También tuvo que adaptar el cartel para cubrir la cuota internacional. El resultado es un programa de altura, con nombres destacados de la escena nacional como Núria Graham, Manel, Joe Crepúsculo, Maika Makovski, Bronquio o Maria Jaume (consulta el listado). Mantiene el CRANC Kids y el CRANC Pro (online). Los detalles en crancfestival.com. = Initially scheduled for May, the fourth edition of the CRANC Festival had to be postponed until September. The venue also had to be moved from Es Claustre and modified in the agenda to cover the international quota. The result is a quality programme with big names from our national talent such as Núria Graham, Manel, Joe Crepúsculo, Maika Makovsky, Bronquio, Maria Jaume o Yana Zafiro (check attached list).
