PROGRAM SENIOR CARE
Alvarado Parkway Institute recognizes the special care and needs to treat older adults with mental illness. Our goal is to promote wellness and a quality of life for our senior clients. We aspire to help our clients recognize a sense of purpose and cultivate joy in order to enhance their overall sense of well-being.
OUR MISSION
To improve mental health and quality of life by helping people maximize their potential.
SENIOR PROGRAM
Later in life, many people experience changes — death of loved ones, retirement, stressful life events, or medical problems. It’s normal to feel uneasy, stressed, or sad about these changes. But after adjusting, many older adults feel well again. Depression is different. It is a medical condition that interferes with daily life and normal functioning. It is not a normal part of aging.
Many older adults with depression need treatment to feel better. The Senior
Program at Alvarado Parkway Institute’s La Mesa Outpatient Services site provides structured treatment in a caring and compassionate environment for older adults struggling with not only depression, but other mental health challenges including, but not limited to: anxiety, chronic pain, suicidal ideation, disorientation/ disorganization, behavioral issues and chemical dependency.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
Senior clients may attend two to four days a week, Monday through Friday from 12-3pm, and have access to transportation to and from program. Clients receive a nutritious lunch in our cafeteria, participate in a community meeting and then engage in two group therapy sessions.
The afternoon process groups offer clients the opportunity to share and connect with one another on a variety of topics beneficial to the distinct needs of older adults.
Some group sessions are Reminiscence Therapy, Healing Through Music, Communication Skills, Health
and Wellness, Life Skills and Creative Expression. At times, clients will engage in intergenerational group activities with younger clients which can contribute to positive relationships and emotional well-being.
TREATMENT TEAM
Clients in our Senior Outpatient Program receive a thorough assessment and a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan designed to address each client’s unique needs to help them achieve stability and, ultimately, life satisfaction. Clients receive psychiatric care, supportive counseling, and case management services as needed.
