The $253 million Beaverton High School rebuild is underway, and the architect has produced renderings of what students and parents can expect when it reopens.

The new school will be 300,500 square feet in size over three stories, with an enclosed, 15,500-square-foot courtyard, among other features. It is expected to open in fall 2026 for some 1,500 students. The development is the most expensive from a 2022 bond measure, according to the Beaverton School District, but is necessary because the district's oldest school, built in 1916, could fall down in an earthquake.

“We look forward to having a modernized campus that meets students’ needs and functions as community evacuation center in case of a disaster,” Principal Andrew Kearl said in a news release. Students will continue to attend school in the existing building at 13000 S.W. Second Ave. while construction firm Skanska builds the new space on Southwest Farmington Road.

There isn't an appropriate "swing school" for students to go to in the interim, the district said.

"Skanska is well positioned to ensure student safety during construction, while supporting our efforts to provide a positive learning environment throughout the construction process," Kearl said.

Skanska's Trevor Wyckoff graduated from the school in 1994 and is now overseeing the rebuild.

"As a Beaverton High graduate, I'm honored to rebuild this school to better serve the existing and future student body," Wyckoff said in the news release. "I hope our work will inspire students to go into construction, we could use more BHS grads to impact our industry."
