TROUBLESHOOTING MULTIPLE AUDIO DEVICES

A lot of systems that we purchase have built-in audio devices. Gone are the days when purchasing a computer meant we always needed to purchase a sound system to go with it. Instead, even the standard towers we buy usually have a small speaker or two embedded somewhere within the case for convenience sake.

But what happens if we want to get another audio device anyway?

When another audio device, or most new devices, are plugged into the PC, a driver is usually installed automatically, and windows PCs will swap over to the new one. In some cases, such as plugging in headphones to a PC, it will completely over-ride the old settings and output only to the new device.

But what happens if it doesn’t?

Like with any device, nothing works perfectly every time you use it. Thankfully, with newer versions of the windows operating system it’s fairly

painless to troubleshoot. On any windows PC running windows 10 or newer, hit the start button and go to Settings, System, and then Sound. Once in the sound settings, you can find your available audio output devices from the drop-down menu and you can pick what you want to output to specifically by name.

If there is a sound system that you do not want to use at all, you can select Manage sound devices and simply disable it. Windows will then ignore it whenever it is connected, which is useful if you are using a second monitor. In some instances windows can detect sound output from a monitor even if it has no speakers built in. This happens if a HDMI/DP Cable, that can transmit audio, is connected.

Hopefully this helps your keep all your audio troubles at bay!

Pecan Pie Recipe of the Month:

Ingredients:

For the Crust

• 1 ½ c. all-purpose flour

• ½ c. unsalted butter, cut into ½ pieces

• 1 tbsp. granulated sugar

• ¼ tsp. kosher salt

• ½ tbsp. apple cider vinegar

• 4 tbsp. ice water (or more, if needed)

For the Filling

• Cooking spray, for pie dish

• 6 tbsp. butter

• ¾ c. packed light brown sugar

• 1 c. light corn syrup

• 1 tbsp. pure vanilla extract

• ½ tsp. kosher salt

Nothing says Thanksgiving dessert more than a classic pecan pie. The crunchy top gives way to that flavorsome, rich interior filled to the brim with nuts. This recipe is the simplest, yet most tasty way to complete your holiday table (or any table for that matter)!

Directions:

1. Make the crust: Place flour and butter into freezer for 30 minutes before starting crust process.

2. In a sizable food processor, pulse the flour, sugar, and salt to combine. Add butter and pulse until pea-sized and a few slightly larger pieces form. Pour 1 tablespoon at a time of vinegar and ice water into the feed tube while the machine is running until the dough starts to come together.

3. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface, form into a ball, and flatten into a disk (making sure there are no/few cracks). Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until dough is very cold, at least 2 hours or up to overnight.

4. Make the filling: Preheat oven to 425° and lightly grease a 9"x1.5" pie dish with cooking spray.

5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough into a 12” circle. Drape over pie dish and gently press to fit. With a fork, lightly prick bottom of crust and decoratively score edges. Refrigerate 30 minutes or freeze 10 minutes.

• 3 large eggs, beaten

• 2 c. Pecan halves

• Vanilla ice cream, for serving

6. Line crust with parchment paper and fill with dried beans or pie weights. Bake 10 minutes, then remove parchment and weights. Reduce heat to 350°.

7. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt butter. Whisk in brown sugar until smooth and remove from heat. Whisk in corn syrup, vanilla, salt, and beaten eggs.

8. Scatter pecan halves into pie crust and pour over sugar mixture. Mix gently with a spoon to coat nuts and evenly disperse.

9. Lightly place foil over top of pie and bake 30 minutes, then remove foil and bake until filling is pu ed, only slightly wobbly, and crust is golden, 35 minutes more.

10. Cool completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving. Serve topped with vanilla ice cream and enjoy!

Thank you to Delish for the recipe!
