GOODBYE UNI-ACORNS :,)

As much as it pains me to say this, welcome to the FINAL issue of our club newsletter for the 22-23 term. I can't believe it's already April, which means our lovely new 23-24 officer board will be officially installed at the end of this month after DCON ends, and our current officer board will be retired. I hope you all have enjoyed theses issues from this past year, and I want to say a special thank you to the media committee, my "Fun-gis", Hallea, Amita, Tiffany, Paru, and editor elect, Tram for being such a great help since November of this term. They have truly helped me maintain these newsletters and website for you guys, as at times it got a bit overwhelming, but I always had my team of little editors <3 . Looking back at my first issue in May of 2022, I have learned so much about design, writing and researching on the organization we all know and love, Key Club! Being Bulletin Editor for the past two years has been such a rewarding experience, and I could not be any more grateful for the opportunities, friends and memories I have made since the founding of our club. I know Tram will do an amazing job continuing these newsletters and running the Instagram, and I can't wait to see what her and the rest of the 23-24 board will do for the new term.

Moving on, my goodbye... It is truly bittersweet, as Key Club has been a massive part of my high school experience for these last two years, and already losing one year to the pandemic, it felt like a lifetime. An incredible, comforting and most importantly fun time. Truly, I would not have been the person I am today, without this club in my life. I was very shy and reserved before, but this club was the KEY to opening up to who I truly am, as cliche as that may sound. Thank you to my co-founding officers, Caleb, Teddy, Joni and Kat (and our IP LTG Katy) for introducing me to the best experience of my high school career. It has been a wild ride since our first, and fairly awkward zoom meeting for the first time just a little before OTC back in July of 2021. We have grown so so close since then, and even though I thought most of them hated me before, I can now safely say they are one of the most hardworking, inspiring and ambitious individuals that I am proud to call my friends. You all will do so so well in your future endeavors! To my other 22-23 officers, Maria and Hasvita, I am incredibly proud of you both as well, and this past year working with the both of you was a special privilege. Your passion and enthusiasm has carried me this past term, and whenever it got stressful, I knew I could rely on either of you. I truly wish you the best of luck, Maria as the next D16N LTG, and Hasvita as the next AOC Key Club President, you both will do amazing your senior year! Don't ever hesitate to contact me throughout your term, and this applies to anyone reading.

Which leads me to you guys, our Uni-Acorns!

Please continue to be involved in our club because I believe it will be a rewarding experience for you all, just like it was for me andsomanyothers.WestillhaveallofApril,so let's end of the term strong by going out there and serving our community and making these longlastingbonds<3Enjoytherestoftheterm and celebrate the new one because I have full faith in our new officer and division leadership.

#Slayyying with service and signing off for the last time,

HELLO AND GOODBYE UNI-ACORNS! ༊*·˚

First, I would like to introduce myself for the last time of being your Key Club President. My name is Maria Manalastas and I proudly and currently serve as your Presient for the 22-23 term.

It is finally but sadly the month of April already. This is the month where we will be sharing our goodbyes to our current seniors and officers, and hello to the newly installed officers after DCON. It was truly a privilege being given the opportunity to lead this amazing club for the 2223 term. This organization has truly shaped the person I am today. For example, I have learned how to lead others, communicate with adults/higher ups (professionally), (confidently) public speaking, organization, and working on a time crunch or under pressure. Not only that I was able to create the most wholesome and heartwarming bonds with my officers and the members inside or outside our Division, and cherish each one. I was able to create so many amazing memories with so many of you at each event or meeting, and gain so many crucial skills throughout my time as serving as your President. I hope that throughout my time as being an officer for this term during your Key Club journey, I was able to provide the same for all of you as well!

As mentioned before, this organization has helped me create one of the most wholesome and heartwarming bonds with my officers, and for this part of my message, I would like to dedicate it to each one of them. Caleb, Teddy, Joni, Renee, and Hasvita, you all were one of the best officers and friends I have ever had and am truly grateful for meeting you all my sophomore year. You all make me so happy and am so proud of each and every one of us for putting in such hard work and dedication into keeping our club stable and established. As for Hasvita, I know I can trust her to build new heights for our club and create even more and better memories for our future members. As for the seniors leaving this year, it really shatters my heart knowing you guys won’t be present in our club or school in general anymore. You guys helped shape my high school journey with all of your guys’ amazing advice and accomplishments throughout my time of getting to know you all. It will be SO different without all of you, and I would like to apologize in advance if I cry at your guys’ graduation. :’) Jokes aside, I am truly grateful for my upperclassmen, and will miss them so much.

To conclude my message, I would like to introduce myself again as being your next Lieutenant Governor. My name is Maria Manalastas and I will be proudly and serving as your next Lieutenant Governor. I can’t wait to spend another year you with you all, and hope to see you all at my future events. I hope you guys all stay tuned for what I have in store for you all!! All of the members in this club make me so happy and can’t wait to create more memories for my last year being in high school!

HI FOR THE LAST TIME (HOPEFULLY)

For those of you who don’t know me, I am Teddy Yang, Vice President and Co-Founder of AOC Key Club. Over the past two years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many amazing people across Division 16 North, and although I haven’t been around as long as many of you here, the experiences and lessons I’ve learned through serving our communitywithmyfellowunicornsareonesthatIwillcarrywithmefor years to come. At this time, I’d like to thank everyone who has given me, and so many other people across our division the opportunity to becomeactiveparticipantsinthisgreatorganization:ourlocalKiwanis Advisor Mr. Ridnor, the Division 16 North IP Division Leadership Team, and especially our IP Executive Assistant Terra Lee and IP Lieutenant Governor Katy Shin, who guided AOC Club through its long chartering process this year. THE AOC KEY CLUB OFFICERS would now like me to say that they ARE THE ABSOLUTE BEST…THEY’RE SO MUCH BETTER THAN ME SO I’D LIKE TO THANK THEM FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART AND SOUL but they actually suck wendy’s (if you know you know lol) Lastly, I want to thank our retiring Division 16 North Lieutenant Governor Caleb Kim.

Caleb offered me the opportunity to join his endeavor in starting a Key Club at our school, and through the past years I’ve seen him grow from a sleepy, furryhaired kid who never talked in class and always did his homework at the last second, into an organized and confident leader. Even though he has a habit of falling asleep in class and forgetting his pencil every day, I am so proud of my pookie bear for being such a sexy hot fire oppar.

DEAR AOC

KEY CLUB,

Where to start??? I still remember the nervousness I felt when we had our first meeting on September 24, 2021…where did all the time go? The process to start a Key Club at AOC was definitely not easy and there were honestly plenty of times when I thought that finding an advisor for our club would be impossible. BUT, 2 YEARS LATER, we are officially the biggest club on campus :DD It makes me so happy to think about how much this club has grown over the past few years, and I’m so grateful that each and every one of you dedicated so many hours to attend our service opportunities, division/region events, and club meetings :))

Key Club has taught me a lot during the past two years: communication, teamwork, and the importance of serving. But, most importantly, it’s taught me the value of COMMUNITY. Serving within the community, serving for the community, and being inspired to serve by those in the community. To my fellow Key Club officers, thank you for your dedication and passion…our countless jokes, rants, roasts, and fun brainstorm sessions kept me alive when I felt like giving up. You guys have set such an exceptional example for all of our Key Club members, and I’m SO SO SO proud to see just how far we’ve come since we first started <333

To my new secretary, Aiden, you literally have no idea just how excited I am to see how you lead this club and continue blessing this club with your contagious laughter, bright smile, and passionate dedication. I have NO doubt that you will do well and contribute to this club more than you can ever imagine…if you EVER have ANY questions with the MRF’s, MICE forms, or hour logs, feel free to text me because I was in your exact shoes once and I totally understand :)

SECRETARY'S MSG SECRETARY'S MSG

Key Club has played a huge part of my time in high school, and it’s all because of YOU, so thank you again for all of the fun memories…I’ll never forget how small we started out because they taught me that the most special things can come from the most humble beginnings <333 No matter how tiring things may get, it is my hope that Key Club will be a safe place for you to have fun, learn more about yourself, become a part of tightknit community, and, most importantly, give back to the community.

P.S. Y’ALL BETTER INVITE ME TO YOUR EVENTS. I WANT TO VISIT WHEN I’M ON BREAK.

DEAR UNI-ACORNS,

This year with Key Club has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life and there really is nothing that comes close to what Key Club is in my heart. My journey through Key Club was intense to say the very least, with all the different and unique events that taught me about my role as a leader to bonding events where I got to create everlasting memories were things I could never forget. I feel privileged to know that I’ll be helping lead our club once again but as your president this time so don’t get tired of me yet haha. With our club being one of the biggest on campus and the most interactive, I couldn’t possibly be prouder to call you all my family. I’m so grateful to have spent my junior year with all these wonderful people who each shaped the way I view service, hard work, and most importantly friendship.

To my fellow officers, I’m so glad I got to meet every single one of you. The work you guys put into making this club the way it is now is so inspiring and I hope to lead the way you all did and still do. Caleb, you’re not an officer anymore so I don’t have to do this but… I’m nice so I guess… Thank You for helping AOC to your best ability as LTG. Even as someone who isn’t on the board anymore, you still strived to help our club to your best ability and for that I’m grateful. Maria, you were such an amazing president and I know you’ll be an even better LTG! Your constant dedication for Key Club is motivating so I have a lot to live up to as President LOL. Teddy, I know I make fun of you a lot but I’m honestly glad I can call you one of my friends these past two years. You made the atmosphere more lighthearted and I know you’ll do great (as great as it gets…) things in college as well. Joni, we met when you randomly dmed me one day and our friendship never stopped even when I constantly called you short (lolll…). I’m thankful you were always there to help me even if it was at odd times at night… Renee, words cannot explain how much I’ll miss you. Key Club wouldn’t have been the same without your insane talent with graphics and editing, and I wouldn’t have been the same with your presence whether it be our hallway walks to our late night calls. I seriously love you all so much, it definitely feels weird that all 6 of us won’t be together anymore so It’s going to take a lot of getting used to. We have to keep in touch even if you’re out there chasing your annoying dreams in college, because I think I might cry if we don’t… Don’t forget me lol :(

To our new board, I’m so excited to work with you all to accomplish things AOC key club hasn’t before! I know you guys are going to do amazing in the next term and I can’t wait! Jordin, my new treasurer child, I’ll still be here to help you along the way but I have so much faith that our funds are going to be in such good hands (plus you’re so cute). This entire message is really bittersweet and it’s making me emotional writing this, but trust me when I say I’ve never been happier to be and continue being so involved in a club before. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t sad, and it’s kind of weird being this upset over a club but It seriously isn’t just a club. It was the reason why I can be who I am right now in confidence and that’s what I'll cherish forever. Thank you, for making my Junior year so memorable.

DEAR UNI-ACORNS,

Last year’s Club Food Day, I remember constantly being asked why Key Club was called Key Club, and if we were a club that made keys. No, we don’t make keys in Key Club. But in an effort to recruit more members at Club Food Day, the officers told anyone who stopped by our booth that Key Club was called Key Club because it “opened the doors to success and new opportunities”. We were just joking back then. As I’m writing this and reflecting back on the past 2 years of my Key Club experience, I now realize the truth in this statement.

Key Club has undoubtedly opened up a window of opportunity in my own life. I never imagined I would be speaking in front of hundreds of people, or leading chants while standing on stage. Through this club, I’m thankful to have forged invaluable friendships, strengthened my commitment to civic engagement, and learned valuable lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to have served as the founding President last term, and AOC’s first Lieutenant Governor this term. Without a doubt, the best part of serving in these positions has been the bond I’ve been able to form with the amazing members who make Key Club so special. To Joni, Teddy, Renee, and Kat, thank you for embarking on this journey with me and building something so remarkable from the ground-up. You all taught me the importance of being in the moment and getting out of my comfort zone. To this day, I can’t believe I was singing BTS and shoving cupcakes in my face in front of a classroom full of people. To Maria and Hasvita, you both will undoubtedly carry on the legacy of our club. It was a pleasure to be able to work with you both and I know you two will do amazing things.

Speaking of legacy, I had a conversation withTeddythatIwanttoshareinthisfinal newsletter. We talked about what kind of legacy we both would leave behind at AOC. It didn’t take us a minute to think before we both agreed that our legacy would be starting a Key Club here at AOC. It was a difficult process chartering this club, but it was worthwhile. I’m so proud to see how much the club has grownfrombackthentonow.Myhopeis that it continues to grow in the future, so that many more AOC students can experience the joys of being a part of such an amazing club and community of people. To me, Key Club is a family. To the members reading this newsletter, what’sKeyClubtoyou?
