Algunos signos del futuro Somos el inicio del futuro, que siempre es un misterio. Pero prevemos algunas líneas. - El mundo se achicó y seguiremos haciendo y recibiendo proyectos para y desde cualquier lugar. Esto debe llevar a una unificación real de la normativa y de los procedimientos: no es posible que para desarrollar un nuevo proyecto sea necesario primero estudiar la norma polaca o la australiana. ¿La salida que vemos? La normativa necesariamente deberá internacionalizarse y todos deberemos seguir sólo un cuerpo normativo: no es casual que el documento que reemplazó al UBC (Uniform Building Code) se denomina IBC (International Building Code). - ¿Acero u hormigón? Hasta hace 5 años decir ‘estructuras industriales’ era decir ‘estructuras de acero’. El hormigón estaba limitado a algunas losas, a las fundaciones y a un par de estanques. Hoy el uso de un material u otro depende de los costos y de los usos de los países, realidad muy fuerte en un mundo que pretende estar globalizado. - Las maquetas 3D vienen a ocupar el lugar de los planos. Aunque ellas todavía estén en una etapa inicial, los planos que nos han acompañado a lo largo de nuestra historia perderán importancia: todos trabajaremos dentro de la maqueta y los planos serán un resultado derivado de ella. - La humanización de las grandes industrias. La mayor parte de las grandes industrias y casi la totalidad de las instalaciones mineras son poco amables, se ubican en zonas aisladas, de gran altitud, con procesos que generan polvo, sin contar con una respuesta de diseño que las haga confortables o al menos habitables. Como reflejo de la preocupación por las personas, eso deberá ir cambiando. Y si para la industria y la minería esa será una demanda, para los arquitectos y diseñadores será un desafío. Tarea pendiente.
Some visions of the future We are at the beginning of the future which is always a mystery. But we can anticipate some trends. - The world became smaller and we will continue making and receiving projects from all over. This should lead to a real unification of codes and procedures: it’s not possible that to develop a new project it’s necessary to study first the Polish or Australian standard. The solution? Legislation must necessarily become international and we shall all follow only one body of law: it’s no coincidence that the document that replaced the UBC (Uniform Building Code) is called IBC (International Building Code).
- Steel or concrete? Until 5 years ago “industrial structures” meant “steel structures”. Concrete use was limited to a few slabs, foundations and a couple of tanks. Today the use of one material or another depends on the costs and the customary use in each country, a very strong argument in a world that claims to be globalized. - 3D models will replace drawings. Although these are still at an early stage, the drawings that have been with us throughout our history will become less important: we will all work within the model and drawings will derive from it. - Humanizing the large industries. Most large industries and almost all mining facilities are unwelcoming, located in remote, high altitude areas, with processes that generate dust, and without a design response to make them comfortable or at least livable. As a result of the concern for people, this shall change. And if for the industry and mining business this becomes a requirement, for architects and designers it will be a challenge. This task is pending.
