This project focused on researching a chosen house, which would be used for the entire semester. The chosen house was the Case Study House #8, also known as the Eames House. The purpose of this project was to develop skills in site analysis and research, while also developing an appreciation of architecture of the 20th century.

Row House Design 3 | Fall 2021

8

The Row home project was the first project to introduce a real client. The basis for this project was choosing a location in Sharswood, Philadelphia, and designing a home for this client based on their wants and needs. This semester was based on animation, which posed several challenges, but showcased another method to present a project. Link to animation: https:// youtu.be/yUZY6NB-NQQ

Cabin Competition

Studio Retreat, designed by Workshop APD, is originally located in Chappaqua, New York. Being only 300 sq ft, the small cabin focuses on the connection to the nature around it. The interior consists of just two rooms, with the majority being a living space, but also includes a small bathroom. The house has a large deck to further enhance the experience with nature. Even inside, that connection does not go away, with large, intricately designed, glass curtain walls wrapping around the front facade, creating an incredible view from the interior. The amount of wood utilized makes the house blend beautifully with its surroundings. The new location that this cabin rests is in Loyalsock State Forest. Specifically it is in a dense forest, with a great view overlooking the Loyalsock Creek. This location is a great getaway spot for peaceful silence and to connect with nature.

Good Intensions Design 4 | Spring 2022

This project revolved around improving and adapting the existing ruins at Strawberry Mansion, Philadelphia. The current state of the ruins is not ideal and they are falling apart. Part of this project was to protect the ruins with a skin. This project was completely open to choose a program and client to design for. I chose to turn the ruins into a community greenhouse, with a farmers market outside.

Lighting the Path to Peace

Design 4 | Spring 2022

21

The objective of this project was to design a space that housed George Nakashima’s Altar for Peace. This was a table created by a large fallen tree that was meant to represent peace. The site was to be chosen anywhere in East Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. This project had specific program requirements for the building.

The Pressure of Recomposition

Design 5 | Fall 2022

25

This project brought new program to a previously reseached inequitable community of Philadelphia. Located in Kensington, the new building to be added was a human recomposition center, an alternative method of deathcare, as well as an arboretum. The site is on a vacant lot with dilapidated railroad tracks.
