WHAT I’VE LEARN IN YEAR 2011 By Antoine Chung

I’ve learn in year 2011 that there’s a lot of ungrateful people in life. Some who will pretend to be your friends, just because of what you have or ability to offer them. I’ve also learn that real friends aren’t people that you have know for a long time but those who care for you and support you in your right doings. I’ve also learn that people lie for absolutely no reason most times. I love to socialize and by doing so I’ve met a lot of people. Some with nice personalities or major problems, etc... I try to help as many as possible, some are stubborn and that’s the reason for their problems. I’ve learn that homosexual and bisexuality has increase in Jamaica or I’ve just been bad lucky enough to meet a few too many. The worst thing is when you become friends with a girl and after a couple months she tells you she’s bisexual. It’s really hard to keep my distance from people who I’ve found a friend in that live a lifestyle that I don’t support. It breaks my heart when talking to attractive girls who are lesbian. In life I believe that God sometimes make you meet the wrong people first so that when you meet the right ones you’ll know how to treat them. I’ve surly learnt a lot in year 2011 and now looking forward to year 2012. To all who has been in my life, for one minute or years, thank you. I forgive my enemies and sorry if I’ve hurt you. May your neighbours respect you, trouble neglect you, angels protect you and heaven accept you…

“Duh road and boy get dash overboard, Duh road and cut like a samurai sword” famous line from artiste Mavado song, “Duh road”. This song was the Inspiration for members of Vulpine Entertainment to have an every Friday event series Sponsored by Nostik Designz in December to kick off the December parties for 2011. The party was the official and original party to launch “Duh Road Magazine” as well as for patrons to have a new party experience to boost their expectations for the December party season. “Wear weh you have”, “Snapbacks vs. Fitted”, “Short Shorts” and “All White” were the four (4) themes for the four weeks event, with each week male and female turn out to represent the theme. As early as 6:30pm every Friday, patrons were at the venue at the “Sports Bar” (65 Half Way tree road, Kingston). Ecstatic sounds from Jamaica’s youngest and encouraging Dj’s such as Dj Lemmy, Herbal legends and vulpine entertainment Dj, Ricky Frass ignite the heat of the party week by week, having patrons screaming out there name while dancing to their favorite selections of songs by these Dj’s. “Party shot like one m16” was one of the comments made by a patron while she was dancing at the “Snapbacks vs. Fitted” edition. “It was a lively and fun-filled four weeks for me and I am hoping that vulpine entertainment would host this event next year” said a patron who was at the event. Special Guest artiste such as Chozen passed through the event and fed the crowd with his new songs. Dancers such as Shady squad passed through the event and kept the patrons entertained with their stimulating dance moves. “The four weeks (4) was a success and I am pleased with the turn out of the patrons and I thank everyone for their support of the event” said Antoine Chung, CEO of Vulpine. Antoine also said that patrons should look forward to there next event. The four week event was violent free and ended 2pm each week.

WATA PARTY Halloween Terror Edition (January. 12, 2011) Words/ Photography: Arantes Jackson

Extreme wet and wild images soaked the lawns of the Balmagie Primary school in Waterhouse, Kingston, when Starlight Promotions in association with Lion Pride Overproof Rum played host to their first Wata Party.

18

www.duhroad.com

The night had threatened to be a dull affair as patrons neglected the early start imposed by the event’s organisers. However, as it approached midnight, scores of patrons began to enter the venue with an obvious mission, to get wet and wild, provided the necessary tools. There was also a free body-piercing booth for patrons who were interested. Despite some patrons being overdressed, that didn’t seem to bother them much, as they too got into the action, as they were determined not to be left in the dry. No one, especially the females, seemed to care much about the wet conditions. Cham’s new hit single, Wine, influenced the females to gyrate aggressively on their male counterparts. That was just an indication of how things would have unfolded throughout the night. The males, queued up behind the now sober-less females and together they formed the ‘dagger train’ while they danced to the instructions from artistes like Charly Black, Busy Signal and Vybz Kartel in song. Curtis Carter, one of the event’s promoters, said he was pleased with the turnout and that plans are already being discussed for the second edition set for April. “Everything went well. Thanks to all the persons who came and supported the event. We have already started to plan the next event for April,” he said.

XXXTACY BBM (Febuary 21, 2012)

Words: Arantes Jackson Photography: Antoine Chung / Denson Brown

“A Yah Suh Nice” that was declared by Potential Kid while hosting XXXTACY B.B.M.: Foam & Raindrops held on February 21, 2012 at H2 Entertainment Complex in Portmore. The excitement started as early as 10:00pm with songs from Solar Dre (Sun City Radio’s finest) and Killa Milla Sound from Ochi Rios. Songs like Voicemail’s “Tek Weh urself” kept the patrons on their feet dancing out all their energy and the party just started. Outside the venue, a huge crowd was at the gate because patrons were trying to come in to the venue to catch the early excitement. Ladies were screaming and men were shouting at each other while the security guards at the gate tried to control the massive crowd and maintain order on the outside.

24

www.duhroad.com

Around 12 o’clock, the gate was cleared and the patrons were inside the venue and the energy increased. DJ Flabba Dabba from Covah Team and DJ fattz and Supa from Deadly alliance turned up the heat so high that patrons had to run in and out of the Foam Pitt just to cool down their temperature “babes slow down pon your dancing deh because mi back a kill mi” said a male patron while he was dancing with a female patron at the event. Dancers such as Drastik Squad, Akademic Dancers, Fresh Kidz and KoolKidz were present at the event and they put on a show by showing off their different dance moves while they faced off with each other while DJ Supa supplied them with the hottest dancehall songs in Jamaica presently.

At 1:30 am, DJ Supa increased the energy by playing Vybz Kartels “Go fi dem anyweh” and Aidonia’s “tell them mi bad anyweh”. Numerous gun salutes for these songs came from patrons at the event. At 1:45pm, Peace Officers arrived at the event and ordered that the sound should be turned down. That was done and while the Peace officers were walking away, the patrons were cursing expletives at them, so the officers decided that it was the end of the event and went away with the laptop. Patrons decided that they were not going home and the sound system was turned on back. The energy decreased each minute meanwhile patrons started leaving the venue. The event ended at 2:30pm. “We are overwhelmed with the turn out of the patrons and look out for DE-STRESS “Uniform Swag Edition” coming in June”, said Marc and Antoine from Badppl Entertainment and Vulpine Entertainment respectively.

She is a past student of The Queens School and May Pen High School where she acquired a Diploma and Graduated with 8 CXC subjects and 1 GCE. She loves to have fun, she’s adventurous, open minded and out going. Now, she is aspiring to become a very famous recording artiste. She has been singing since she can remember at churches, church functions and graduations but began recording in the year 2009. Singing is her joy it has been for years. Playing her guitars, singing and being in a studio is the best part of her life; “Mi love di studio vybz bad!” She enjoys telling people who ask. “I live; I breathe music! Music is the entirety of my life! Music to mi tyng! a deh so mi tyng deh!”

www.duhroad.com

Saine Rapley Duh Road: When and how did you first become interested in music? Saine Rapley: I started music professionally in 2009. Before that I sang in churches, crusades, at concerts, school events and parties. I started out doing harmonies/back up for different entertainers. Duh Road: How long have you been playing music? Saine Rapley: I got my first guitar at age 16 and started teaching myself to play, I’ve never been taught. Duh Road: What are your musical influences? Saine Rapley: I’m influenced by my love for music; I always like to play & experiment with my voice. I’d listen to people like; Christina Aguillera, Rihanna, Barbara Striesand, Olivia Newton John, etc. And I’d try to do the things they do but in my own style. Duh Road: Does anyone in your family play music? Saine Rapley: My mother sings very beautifully and my father plays the guitar and a little keyboard, he’s not so great lol. Duh Road: What else do you do besides play music? Saine Rapley: If I should choose any other career besides music, it would definitely be Linguistics or Architecture. Music though, is where my heart is. Duh Road: Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Saine Rapley: Yes, I write my own songs. Normally I’d get a Riddim or a Beat and whatever vibe it gives me I’d just put in words. Sometimes I’d see, hear, smell or feel something and create a song from it lol, other times a random line or melody pops up in my head and I’d jot it down or voicenote it so as not to forget it. When I’m writing, I’m in my “zone”... I literally zone out from everything. Duh Road: What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?) Saine Rapley: My songs are all about my experiences. In some way or another all my songs are truly about me, my life; past, present or future, I write it in a way that others can relate. Duh Road: What kinds of times and places have you played music in your life? Saine Rapley: I’ve worked with JOP (Jag One Production), Mainsource Music, G3 Musik, JJ Wizzle Production, Kimichi Records, Weapon X International, Ikation, One Nation Records, and a few others. Duh Road: What are your immediate music career goals? (Next 1 to 3 years.) Saine Rapley: Right now I’m looking to be extremely successful this year and beyond. I am working fervently to have my name and songs being heard, called and sang worldwide. This year a SAINE year!! In 3years time I should already have my debut album out and touring. Music is my life and I know for a fact that if I continue at this pace I’ll definitely achieve the success I pursue.

I love music, I live it, my life is surrounded by it!
