Personal Statement
I believe successful architectural design excels as a complex of sustainable social elements which is about balancing various aspects –requirements from urban or rural environment, commercial goals, operations and user experience. Cultural specifities of each context play a huge role and need to be factored in as well.
Among all the factors that architects should concern about, humans, as the end users of spaces who have functional and emotional needs, is the most interesting part to me. Only after establishing a vision of what kind of human life is desired in a given place, can attention be given to the public spaces and the ways the buildings can productively interact. As Jan Gehl famously said: “First life, then spaces, then buildings –the other way around never works.”

Dormitory To Community Center
With three prototypes extracted from classical architecture form, this project is aimed to set up a new identity for the community, and create a public living room for all the people to gather together. Natural lighting and ventilation are two key points in this design based on local climate and residents' living pattern. From

04 Down The Street
From Printing Works To School Gallery
The accumulation of time constitutes a certain culture, tradition and memory, which is deeply rooted in people's hearts. Located in an abandoned printing works of HFUT, this design is envisioned to attract new activities back to the old district. When people walk along the 1989 Street, preserved parts of old buildings and new spaces become part of exhibition, then old memories flash back.

The enclosed site and scattered spaces become an integrated system and start to interact with surroundings.
The Residence+ provides an public space for activities at usual and it is also a self-circulation system under lockdown. This sustainable urban space emphasizes the notions of community, inclusion, dignity and provide an opening to perform social life in the backyard of the city.
In post-pandemic era, this seaside high-rise residence is proposed to be redefined as an integrated living system with infrastructure and activity space.

06 Spirit of Xidi
Resort Planning&Architectural Design of an Ancient Village
Shang Village, a part of Xidi Town which is recognised as the World Cultural Heritage, is facing the complex problems under rural exodus. Targetting on the main lane and the waterside space, the project is aimed to revive this declining village through the renovation of space and economic development. All the designs are committed to the principles of heritage protection and social responsibilty, having minimum impact on the existings.

07 New Commune-ism
Rural Utopia
Located in an ethnic minority village of Southwest China, this design draws pictures of a new rural commune-ism that reemphasizes the collective culture of equality, fairness and individual dignity. Democratic politics, prosperous economy, regional culture and sustainable ecology are all the concerns of this work.
From Hybrid Bioreceptive Materials to Building Complex
Operating within the discourse of biodigital design, MycoLoofah addresses contemporary built environment challenges of material resource, and low urban biodiversity. The project explores the use of hybrid living materials as low-energy, rapidly renewable building materials. Hybrid composite materials are ‘grown’ together comprising mycelium, loofah and grass roots exploring a more biological, non-permanent architecture.

The Living System
Should buildings last forever?
This project questions the obsession of permanence and sterility of the buildings, and introduces a new hybrid material system. Loofah and mycelium, as the main agents, offer the building with a degradable and interchangeable bio-skin, and welcome the microorganism for a better eco-living environment.

Environment-driven Building Design
From 2D Distribution Map to 3D Generation
Sunlight and wind intensity, as two crucial factors for biosystem, affect the living agents' performance on the building's interface. By utilizing the environmental data, some parts of the building can function as the bioscaffold for microorganisms. In this project, the renovation of a six-levels frame structure housing is demonstrated as a prototype.

10 Treats Hunter
Machine Learning in 3D Animation with Game Engine
Time: 05/2024
Supervisor: Eleana Polychronaki
Type: Academic, Individual Work
Treats Hunter explores the intervention of reinforcement learning in 3D animation design. Under the built environment, the rewards system in this project is set up by randomly generated treats, obstacles, and destination. Driven by the shortest path and hightest rewards, an agent is trained to reach the defined targets under the machine learning process.
By moving each step (-0.01), failing to stay on the higher floor (-1), and hitting the obstacle (-0.02), reward keeps falling in the beginning. By catching the treats (+5) and reaching the destination (+10), the reward of each episode reaches a stable mark of 12.5 in the end. During the accumulation of rewards, a fall from -2 to -20 is observed. It is because of the agent learning how to get off the higher level and move on the lower floor safely.
11 Traditional Intelligence
Craftsmanship and Robotics
The intervention of AI manufacturing provides us with quantifiable ideas for understanding aesthetics and technology, but it also loses the interaction between materials and craftsman’s spirits. Clay carving is a treasure of Huizhou Folk Culture. In this project, the artificial engraving marks are translated into the motion principles of manipulator to simulate the traditional works.
