By Mark Heidebrect Special to The News Imagine a 224-piece jigsaw puzzle of tongue-in-groove maple boards heaped in a pile for seven years in a storage area at McPherson High School. Those 224 boards comprised the center jump circle of the original Roundhouse floor. The first game played on the boards was a non-league affair with Russell on Dec. 3, 1963. McPherson won that game 51-49. Some 535 games later, on March 1, 2007, the last game was played on those original boards. The Bullpups won that Sub-State game against Salina South by a score of 71-44. After that season, the original Roundhouse boards would be taken up and replaced with a new floor. To say those boards witnessed their share of success over the course of 44 seasons would be an understatement. Guided by coaches Jay Frazier, Mike Henson, and Kurt Kinnamon, those boards witnessed a home record of 45383 (84.5%). Imbedded in those 453 wins were 23 league championships, 18 invitational tournament titles, and an average winning margin of 18 points per game.
