valentine’s day 2013
Last year, Valentine’s Day decor happened like this... I made paper hearts with the kids, made a crochet heart bunting, and crafted fancy cards for my loveys. This year I am doing a swap with a few friends. I needed inspiration, so I found some cute ideas for little gifts. I pinned them on Pinterest. indie lovely holiday indie lovely valentine’s day 2012 2013

While in Chicago, I knew I had to visit, especially after reading this on the website: “Nina is a contemporary knitting shop in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. The sleek, calm space has been described as a Zen temple to fiber.“
There are various group workshops that focus on specific projects and techniques. They include classes that teach hats, gloves, socks, sweaters, cables, fair isle, lace, and more. check out the CLASS SCHEDULE. indie lovely

you need a few things:
Supplies: 4x5 mini Artist’s Canvas Fabric (at least a Fat Quarter) 1 Spool of Coordinating Ribbon 1 Cup Hook Super Tacky Double Sided Tape
Scissors Staple Gun/Extra Staples Ruler Pencil Thumbtack- optional indie lovely

page 26
1) Iron fabric on cotton setting with steam to press out any wrinkles. Lay fabric flat on working surface, pattern side down, with the wrong side facing up. Place canvas front side down onto the backside of the fabric. With a pencil, trace a 2 inch border around the canvas on the fabric. 2) Remove canvas. With fabric scissors, cut out the fabric on your pencil lines. Lay cut out piece pattern side down on working surface. Replace canvas front side down onto fabric. Make sure you center the canvas on the fabric. 3) Starting on one end, fold up edge of fabric over the wood back of the canvas. Generously staple fabric to the back of the canvas.
4) Staple opposite edge of fabric, pulling the fabric tight as you gothis will prevent loose fabric or wrinkles. page 27
indie lovely
valentine’s day 2013
5) For remaining two sides, fold each side of fabric in to create a crisp corner while you staple the fabric- almost like wrapping a present!
6) After the entire back has the fabric stapled into place, trim excess fabric for cleaner edges.
7) Decide which way you would like your canvas to hang. On the bottom edge of the canvas, take a ruler and find the center. Make a small dot where the center is on the fabric- this will be where your cup holder will go. indie lovely
valentine’s day 2013
page 28
8) Push the sharp point of the cup holder into the canvas where you made the pencil mark- it may be helpful if you fabric is on the thicker side to start the hole with a thumbtack. Push down as you rotate the cup holder into place. You want the cup holder “hook to be facing out toward you at the end once the screw is tight. 9) Start to apply the double sided tape on one side of the cup holder, making sure to center the tape on the canvas edge and push down as you go. Continue around the border of the canvas with the tape, pushing down as you go to ensure even adhesion. Cut the tape by the other side of the cup holder. Press firmly on the cut edge. 10) Remove the red tape liner on one end, exposing the adhesive. Starting on one side of the cup holder, attach ribbon edge, pressing firmly, and centering the ribbon as you go along the tape. Cut the ribbon at the other side of the cup holder. Make sure both ends of the ribbon are pressed firmly in place. Trim any excess ribbon if necessary. Hang & enjoy! page 29

a few of my faves... 1. I adore Mel Stringer’s lil
shop on Etsy. I got Tiny Girl something for valentines day from her shop: 2 differentcolored Perfect Paper Polaroid Camera templates. They are A4-sized electronic PDF files that you can print on your home computer and then cut out. Use glue and assemble!
2. Anyone else TOTALLY addicted to
Downton Abbey? Welllll... my instagram pal Heather Kent posted this sneaky peek pic of a new piece she’s adding to her shop on Etsy... loooove it!
3. Also addicted to vintage like
I am? AND international mags? Well you will love Vintage Life magazine. {I subscribed on my iphone in apple newsstand} It’s full of articles about vintage hairstyles, make-up tutorials, history lessons, and is a great resource that will help you really work that vintage style we love so much. page 31
indie lovely
valentine’s day 2013
4. I love sewing. In my early 20’s
I made all of my own clothes on a 1970’s Elna beauty named Helga. These days I have a new singer with tons of cool features. I really wanna make a few things for myself. This is where Salme patterns come in. Simple, versitile flattering designs.
6. Ok, Here I go again, manifesting things,
left and right. Wasn’t I just obsessing over the fact that I couldn’t find a gluten and dairy free caramel?! Turns out Hey Boo Jams makes a coconut one. They also have coconut jams, a tradition in the Southeast Asian region, which started out as sweetener and filling for many local rice desserts.
5. WOW. When I found
the Etsy shop Caught Red Handed, I remembered spring. Which seems so far away. I dig the fun and colorful resin jewelry made with flowers. This bangle really caught my eye. There’s also pendant necklaces and earrings. I pin my faves on pinterest too. Check out my boards for tons of indie inspiration www.pinterest.com/theindielovely xo, anne indie lovely
