The design thesis for The School of Sustainable Art and Design aims to explore the relationship between human and environmental well-being through sustainable processes and biodesign. It envisions a thriving, eco-friendly school that repurposes an old leather factory and produces sustainable products. The school features various spaces that cater to different learning needs and emphasizes outdoor learning areas that are biodiverse and provide partial shelter.
Rainwater harvesting has been implemented to reuse water for the toilet facilities and to irrigate the green roofs within the design.

This Bristol Hybrid Housing Project began with the development of a masterplan for a site in Bristol, focusing on strategic urban planning before progressing to the detailed design of an individual building. My chosen design incorporates a public ground floor with active community spaces, residential flats above, and a private garden for residents at the heart of the building.
Driven by a strong interest in sustainability, I chose to undertake a masterclass on Passivhaus, where I explored energy-efficient strategies such as MVHR and performance analysis using Sefaira. This enabled me to integrate principles like thermal insulation, airtightness, and solar orientation, creating a sustainable, communityfocused design.
- Prevents unwanted air leakage, ensuring consistent indoor temperatures and energy efficiency.

Incorporated MVHR in my hybrid housing project to reduce heating demand, ensuring consistent ventilation, and enhancing occupant well-being, supporting a sustainable living environment.
Currently, the Sefaira stats for my project do not meet Passivhaus standards. To achieve compliance, would need to upgrade insulation to achieve U-values ≤ 0.10 W/m²K and replace windows with triple-glazed units (U-value ≤ 0.80 W/m²K, SHGC ≥ 0.50). I’d also need to improve airtightness (≤ 0.05 ACH), ensure a continuous thermal envelope, and integrate an MVHR system with ≥ 75% efficiency. Finally, would need to eliminate thermal bridges at key junctions which would minimize heat loss and enhance energy efficiency.
These steps would align the design with Passivhaus principles.
