Gerlesborgisasmalltownsituatedinthe southwesternpartofTanumsmunicipalityin Bohuslän.It’sonBottnafjordensnorthernshore, eastofBovallstrandandsouthofHamburgsund.
Itusedtobeanimpoprtantfishingvillageand tradingplace.Theiconicfarmhouseandlarge merchants’stallsarenowadaysabandoned.
Today,Gerlesborgismostlyfamousfor Gerlesborgsskolan,apost-secondaryartschool, foundedin1944byArneIsacsson.Since1958,it alsohasasisterschoollocatedinHjorthagen, Stockholm.

HISTORICALBACKGROUND
GerlesborgwasformerlycalledRåholmen.Itwas boughtbythegrainmerchantAndersGerlein 1823asabaseforhistradeinnorthernBohuslän. Intheearly1830’s,amanorbuildingwasmoved fromHisingentoRåholmen.Thefirstlarge magazinewasbuiltin1838,andthesecondone wascompletedin1883.AndersGerlechanged thenameofthefarmfromRåholmento Gerlesborg.Thegraintradeceasedin1951,but thebuildingandwarehousesstillremain,though inextremelypoorconditions.
Otherthanfarmingandshippinggrains, Gerlesborgwasalsoanimportantfishingvillage andharbourforexportingproductsfromthe localstoneindustry.
VISION
Iimaginevisitorscomingheretolearnmore aboutthesitehistory,marinelifeandecology,as wellasfindingamentalbalanceby experiencingwithalltheirsenses.
Thebuilding(s)itselfshouldbemadeoflocal resources,suchasstonefromtheindustryand woodfromsurroundingforests.
Theprogramcollaborateswithitssurroundings, bothnaturalandman-made.Thespareaches outinnature,therestaurantservesfoodfromthe sea,thelibrarycontainslocalhistoricalreadings, andtheexhibitionspaceshouldbeusedby studentsofGerlesborgsSchoolofFineArts.

PROJECTSITE
IfsuitableIwouldliketorestoretheold magazinesandfarmhouseformyprogram. Aninitialthoughtistoplacetheexhibiton spaceinoneofthemagazines,andperhaps usingtheotheroneasacafé,libraryand shop.Themainbuildingcouldberebuiltasa hotel,whereasthespamightbeseparated andplacedalongthecape.
Butifthiscan’tbedoneinaresonableand sustainableway,Iwouldliketoplacemy projectinnearconnectiontotheoldbuildings somewherealongthecape.
