图书馆南立面加强主轴线校 园的正式感,柱廊的严谨和 节奏呼应窗户的衔接。 图书馆的位置按照总体规划 的精心安排,保持校园的 连续性。 大景窗象征着北化大欲在北 京建立世界一流大学的远 大愿景。
The South Facade of the Library reinforces the formality of the Main Quad. The rigor and rhythm of the colonnade is echoed in the articulation of the windows. The proposed siting of the Library is carefully composed to maintain campus continuity as established in the Masterplan. The large picture window is a symbol of BUCT heroic achievement towards establishing a world class University in Beijing.

北京化工大学最初成立于1958年。在当前状态下,北京化工大学科学 已经发展到一个拥有科学、经济管理、语言和其他文科的核心课程的 全面教育专业机构。这种转变使得北京化工大学得以将自身定位为中 国重点高等院校之一。 北京化工大学昌平新校区策略性地设于具有历史、文化和政治重要性 的世界级城市北京。 北京化工大学昌平新校区总体规划具有正式性,特别注重互动和合作 的空间,与休息和沉思空间相互交织。正式和非正式之间的协同作 用,具有十分重要的意义,这成为图书馆的基本前提。
BUCT was initially founded in 1958. In its current state, BUCT has developed from an institution of scientific specialties to one of comprehensive education with a core curriculum of science, economic management, languages and other liberal Arts. This transformation has allowed BUCT to position itself as one of China’s key institutions of higher learning. Being strategically located in Beijing, BUCT enjoys the prominence of this world class city - one of historical, cultural and political importance. 116 23’

The BUCT masterplan for Changpin New Campus is a formally planned campus with special emphasis on interactive and collaborative spaces that are interwoven with places of rest and contemplation. This synergy between the formal and informal is of great significance and this becomes the underlying premise for the library.

The BUCT Library sits at the focal point of two axis - one from the main entrance and the other leading to the mountain. This is also the intersection of the vistas across the river - overlooking the museum. There are key landscape corridors leading from the discovery walk to the library plaza. The Student energy coming from the entire campus culminates at this key location - one could suggest - emanates from this point as well!

While the Library Plaza is seen as a more contemplative space, the Atrium is supercharged and vibrant with energy - an explosion of ideas and shared learning. The Atrium features grand steps that connect the south entry to the north. The ‘suspended volume’ in the Atrium comprises of student collaboration spaces - suggestive of programs like the Teaching Hall and Book Bar.

书籍! IT’S ALL ABOUT BOOKS! The inspiration for the architectural facades comes from – BOOKS themselves! We see the careful arrangement of books in a library stack as a way to articulate the facade. Some books are ‘open’ while others are ‘closed’. By using three variations of this idea - we create a facade that is lively, sustainable, at the same time respects the use of material as set in the campus masterplan.

图书馆内部的各种功能是独特、丰富而全面 的。读者服务/公共空间、阅读、学习、检索 和教学区、信息中心、研究区和工作区围绕 作为中央聚集空间的大型中庭,同时提供自 然采光,以及可看到各种功能空间活动的视 线。这些功能还通过一个高效的过街桥联系 交通核和自动扶梯。 利用南北入口间5米的地形高差,巧妙地将台 阶式梯座组织到建筑内,增加了大型公共活 动类似露天剧场的室内空间。 The types of function to be located within the Library are uniquely rich and comprehensive. Reader Services / Public Space, reading, study, retrieval and teaching area, information center, study area and work area are organized around a large atrium that acts as a central gathering space while providing natural daylight and views to the various program functions. The programs are also connected through an efficient network of bridges, circulation cores and escalators.
