RTZ undoubtedly had its conceptual beginnings in the 60's, when a move led by Late Edward Shamwana & others, led to the formation of the Association of Round Tables in Zambia (ARTZ) in 1974. Area 1 Chairman Norman Adams & Area 2 Chairman Andy Anderson at the time, later played instrumental roles in laying the foundation for the proposed formation of ARTZ, later renamed Round Table Zambia at the ARTZ

LETTERFROM THEEDITOR

On behalf of the National Council, it is with great pride and sincere privilege that I am writing this message to present another edition of our ANKH magazine. I am delighted to present this projects themed edition with coverage in other areas as well.

Let us be cognisant of the fact that this is an association project and needs team effort to get off the ground.

Thank you to all that reached out with ideas, pics and encouragement as we publish these magazines.

WORDFROMTHEPRESIDENT

The Tabling year of 2023/24 had us adopt the slogan, "Transforming lives through transformational leadership". I would like to offer my gratitude to everyone that contributed to the slogan coming to life. Through the challenges that we faced in the Tabling year we still managed to have a successful Tabling year. Gratitude goes out to my council for the actualization of a shared vision. To all Tablers, I wish to express my appreciation for the unwavering support & commitment. Finally, I would like to extend my utmost gratitude to 41 Club, Ladies Circle, Agora & Tangent, for the unwavering support rendered towards my Presidency and RTZ throughtout the Tabling year spanning from fundraisers, projects and fellowships.

As I end my tenure, I clock 10 years from my induction in 2014. At my induction, I saw RoundTable as medium I could use to be of service to the community, a platform for networking with fellow professionals and derive ideas from one another. I believe that in the last ten years, I have truly seen the value of being part of this great association. I have horned my public speaking and leadership skills, by availing myself to the various portfolios available. My first council position was Treasurer for Lusaka No.18, and as an accountant, I obviously used my professional skills to the fullest.

As this Tabling year comes to an end, I am reminded that it firstly started out on a turbulent note, but my conviction was resolved that I was not left alone. To my wife and family, there are no words that can describe the unwavering support during that trying moment. To my fellow Tablers alike, the journey does not end here. To the incoming council, the mantle has been passed on to you and I believe the support I received will be renderred unto you as well.

Yours In Table

3.DataCollection

The chances of you having a solid report is when data supports it. Data plays an essential role in making people believe in your derivations. Also, support your claims by citing sources such as case studies, surveys, interviews, etc.

4.StructuretheReport

A project report is further divided into certain sections. These 4 are the most common divisions of a project report:

Summary: The summary gives the reader a download of all covered in the project report. Even though a summary is placed at the beginning of a project report, you can only write it once your entirereportiscomplete.

Introduction: Mention the outline of the report, give context and mention the scope and methodologiesusedinthereport.

Body: This is the lengthy section of the report as it contains background details, analysis, data, and graphics.

Conclusion: This section brings the entire project reporttogether.

ROUND TABLE BLOOD DRIVE

For many people, blood donation offers many health benefits with few risks. The strict regulation of blood banks means that a donor can give their blood or plasma safely with almost zero risk of any complication.

Donated blood can save the lives of people in need. However, according to some medical professionals, it may also benefit the donor.

The following section will look at some benefits for blood donors in more detail.

BLOOD DONATION 2024 1 4

ROUND TABLE BLOOD DRIVE

BENEFITS OF DONATING BLOOD

1) Identifying adverse health effects

Each person who donates blood completes a simple physical examination and blood test before giving blood.

2) Contributing to the community

Blood donors provide a vital service to the community. Making a difference in the lives of others can boost a donor’s sense of well-being.

3) Weight management

There are claims that giving blood burns 650 calories. However, there does not appear to be any scientific evidence to prove this. Any benefits of this calorie loss will be short-term and will not help a person lose weight.

4) Blood pressure

Some research has suggested that donating blood may also reduce blood pressure. In 2015, scientists monitored the blood pressure of 292 donors who gave blood one to four times over the course of a year. Around half had high blood pressure.

NATIONAL PROSTHETICS DONATION

About the Prosthetics Project

This project was adopted by National Council to support a recognized niche community in need of assistance There are several people in need of prosthetics following various reasons such as being born with limb defects, diabetes and other illnesses, accidents and so on. The UTH Prosthetics & Orthotics department are responsible for availing various prosthetics and orthotics to help many patients They assemble these locally with the relevant required materials which all come at a cost Sadly, not all patients can afford to buy prosthetics/orthotics.

We recognized a need of prosthetics/orthotics for 25 patients amounting to K172,500 Through our RT 5 Club Dinner held on the 1st December 2023, we managed to raise K30,800 & with an additional top up, we procured materials worth K32,000. These materials catered to 5 patients that have since received their prosthetics and started a new lease of life

Challenges faced

The Prosthetic and Orthotics sector is one that equally faces several challenges in Zambia mainly trained Human Resources, materials and funds

Currently, we only have 16 trained individuals in this field across the country However, we have hundreds of patients that need to be catered for The Ministry of Health plans to introduce a Prosthetics & Orthotics training programme at diploma level next year to mitigate the shortage of trained human resource and reduce on the cost of training abroad

The sector also requires more funds to go towards the procurement of materials to assemble various prosthetics and orthotics to cater to the many patients Majority of these cannot afford these We call upon more Corporates & individuals to come on board this venture and help change many lives in dire need
