As always, we are excited to be a part of the Western Prime Bull and Female Sale. This year we have again selected a group of bulls we feel will work with purebred or commercial herds alike.
Our bulls are grown on free choice hay and a grain ration. The bulls will all be semen tested prior to the sale day with a satisfactory rating. All of our cattle are vaccinated yearly on a program designed by our veterinarian Dr. Collin Lawrence of the Westlock Veterinary Center. We use Bovi-Shield products and Vision 8 way. Ivomec pour on is used in the fall. Our bulls have genomic enhanced EPDs which gives our buyers a clear picture of the genetic potential of the bulls.
If you have any questions regarding our bulls or our program, please feel free to call.

This bull really excites us! He is the first offering off of ST King 5K. King has been proven to have calving ease and be heifer safe. The dam of 34M is a young cow purchased from Bender Shorthorns. She has an excellent udder, quiet temperament and larger frame, all aspects we look for in a herd sire’s dam. With this combination of genetics, this bull could leave a tremendous impact on any herd.

The Thompson Family
We're happy to consign two herd sire prospects to this year's Western Prime Shorthorn Bull Sale. Both are sons from JT Houston 6H, and both are full brothers to bulls that have sold through this sale in previous years. This year our bulls were developed at Olds College and participated in a feed efficiency study measuring individual animal intake. Their ration was silage-based but moderate in energy content, aiming for 3 lbs/day in average daily gain. This feeding approach is similar to how we develop bulls at home, not pushing bulls for performance but at the same time, not risking them being over-conditioned when it's time to get to work in the spring.
The Poplar Creek herd emphasizes functionality, performance, and sound feet and legs. Ultimately, this will all lead to longevity while remaining productive, something you will see a lot of when touring through our herd. Our bulls were ultrasounded in early February (with results to be available soon), have been 100K tested, and are free of myostatin variants and defects.

Major 21M is another great bull prospect out of JT Houston 6H, coming to you in an attractive red-shoulder roan colour. His pedigree is filled with longevity and performance, going back to Betsy 81T, Saskvalley Transport and Goldwin Burwash on the dam’s side. While on test at Olds College he gained 3.64 lbs/d with a negative (more efficient) feed efficiency value when compared across the pen. A full brother, almost identical to Major 21M, sold to Circle M Shorthorns in the 2023 Western Prime Sale.

The dam of Marshal 22M never seems to miss! Her last two calves have sold through the Western Prime Sale as solid herd bull prospects, and Marshal 22M is no different. She has a perfect udder that has been shown to pass on to her daughters, something that Marshal 22M will certainly pass on to his offspring. He’s a bull that combines growth and calving ease, much like his sire Houston 6H, for use on either heifers or cows. Like the others on test at Olds College, he’s been developed on a moderate ration to avoid burnout, while still allowing bulls to develop at a target rate of gain of 3 lbs/d.
