Our cows are run under real ranch conditions. We focus on ease of flesh raising cattle that can convert poorer forage into pounds and maintain condition without relying on feed trucks. Our cows look after themselves in the winter and thrive in practical, working environments. We are a familyrun operation based just north of Brooks, Alberta, on the Matziwin Creek. Our ranching roots go back over 80 years to Lee Beasley, whose vision shaped what we do today. In 2008, we launched 66 Ranch with one-third of the original Beasley herd and named the ranch after Lee’s first cattle brand: “66.”
In 2012, we strengthened our genetic base by purchasing the entire Badlands Black Angus herd.
In 2025, we made our genetics even better by purchasing Valley Blossom Ranch’s herd from Beau and Ashley Switzer, and we could not be more pleased with this outstanding set of purebreds. These females are already making a big impact, and we’re excited for the influence they’ll have on the quality and consistency of bulls we offer in the years ahead.

Today, we run both purebred and commercial Black Angus herds and select our mother cows for maternal ability and longevity. We are very maternalfocused. We firmly believe that if you have a good cow, she’ll raise you a good calf.
Structural & Genetic Priorities
Our cows must have:
-Sound feet
-Strong udders
-Structural durability
-Enough bone and capacity to thrive on large, rugged country
At 66 Ranch, our cattle are raised under real-world ranch conditions. They graze year-round on both irrigated and rougher terrain without supplements or creep feed. We prioritize structural soundness, moderate frames, and maternal traits in both our purebred and commercial herds. We breed for April and May calving to align with native grass, using moderate birth weight genetics. Calves are expected to thrive naturally those that don’t are culled. We don’t push our cattle; instead, we let their genetics work. Our entire herd is enrolled in the Pfizer Gold program to support long-term health and productivity. -April-born calves are sold as yearlings in our Spring Bull Sale -May 1–10 calves are sold in our December Bull Sale. -May 11–June 10 calves are developed into two-year-old bulls for the following spring. We grow our bulls slowly and evenly, culling only those that don’t meet our high standards. Buyers are always welcome to stop by anytime at the ranch for a tour of our cows and bull pens before the sale.
