F

ollowing the trail of a legend, ambition led me to undertake an endless journey that would end up trapping me among the rocks. I was looking for a refuge, to get rid of the sand and the sun, my eternal pursuers.

Everything was the same color, each mountain was identical to the previous one and in some points on the horizon, the sun and the sand merged. I began to crawl in hope of being noticed by the sun and being spared my life. Why does no one accompany me?

When did they abandon me?

I woke up to the feeling that the sky was watching me, my hands felt moisture in the sand and when I raised my face, a passage between the rocks offered itself to me as the materialization of hope.

I followed the path through the rock and suddenly, a staircase rose between the rock walls, perhaps, at the end of it, when I reached the top, I would find what I was looking for. I felt the cool rock under my feet, the one that seemed molded by some mysterious being from another time, and it calmed me to think that I had not been the only one who got lost along the way.

W H E R E D O E S T H E WAT E R I N T H E RIVERS COME FROM?

The house arises from answering that question. Marco Flaminio, the narrator of “The Immortal” by Jorge Luis Borges, embarks on a journey through the desert in search of the waters of immortality, the waters of Esepo, but in this case he ends up finding a house in the middle of the mountains, of flooded rooms that overflow, a house that emanates life, the spring of eternity and the fountain that fills the mysterious waters of the river of immortality.

It seems that the walls emerge from the rocks, the house and the mountain merge and within the limits of this stone labyrinth we find the senseless: the water magically flooding the room to then fill the flow of the river Esepo, the walls out of scale, the monumental, the stairs that run into walls and take you nowhere or those unreachable ones at the top of a wall.

Just as immortality is a punishment, the house, more than a refuge is a prison.

T

he project seeks to rethink the idea of the spatial relationships between exterior and interior areas of a house. The conventional idea of four walls and a roof is taken to a minimun where the roofed area becomes a flexible space to generate different configurations that adapt to the client’s needs.

The project is reduced to the design of a series of mobile walls that generate a house that can be designed (configured) by the user, from the architectural program, to the organization of interior areas, the facade and the relationship of the roofed area with the exterior.

Open space and its relationship with the environment are maximized, in adition, self-construction is promoted as it is a prefabricated house that can be built anywhere.

The house adapts and responds to the needs of the users since the spacial organization is selected by them. The design consists of a system of sliding walls through a grid of aluminum rails (1x1m) that allows the mobility of the spatial divisions inside the house. The system allows the easy addition or subtraction of the modules and a simple reconfiguration according to the specific needs of the user.

ddressing the urgent need in Ethiopia to combat school dropouts, Satellite Preschools offers the children of Walmara the necessary infrastructure to continue their basic studies. Creating low-cost architecture able to be replied along the region due to its simplicity of selfconstruction. Allowing users to discover by breaking the boundaries between closed and open spaces. Guaranteeing that thechildren have the opportunity to connect with the ubuilt. Rationally using the natural resources of the site and projecting an architecture with bioclimatic and sustainable criteria where the natural environment is used to satisfy the needs of the users in a responsible manner. Integrate the project to the landscape of in order to create a unit with the environment and provoke an interaction with the outside as part of a dynamic activity with nature.
