BETULA MAGICAL®

GLOBE PP23610

Magical Globe is a dwarf growing form of Betula pendula. When grafted onto a Himalayan white birch standard, it forms a distinctly shaped patio and garden tree. The slow growing, tight branches form a rounded ball atop the silver white trunk of the Himalayan birch creating the look of a lollipop. It is the first birch with a spherical habit that can be grafted at any height, and requires little or no trimming to keep its rounded form. Performs well when grafted on to Betula nigra as well.

MALUS MILL ‘UEBO’ APRIL

SHOWERS™ PP15559

Weeping trees lend an elegant silhouette against the winter landscape with their exposed branches of intricate design. Slow growing, and suitable for smaller garden spaces, the graceful, cascading effect of April Showers will soften your design and provide a season-by-season display of beauty. In spring, buds swell to garlands of pure white flowers. As the flowers fall, darkgreen, narrow foliage covers the delicate limbs. And then, as the days of autumn bring crispness to the air, bright, carmine-red fruits hang like tiny apples from its branches. As winter approaches, the elegant silhouette presents itself again.

METASEQUOIA GLYPTOSTROBOIDES ‘SOUL

FIRE’ PPAF

This new gold needled redwood was found by one of our favorite plant geeks, Andy Schenck from Sam Brown’s Nursery. It has extraordinary spring, summer and fall color that will light up any garden space. Each spring, bright, lime-green needles emerge with a rosy-orange frosting, making for a two-toned effect. As the summer days grow longer, and the heat and humidity pick up, the needles change to bright, chartreuse and don’t fade until fall brings on a bright, orange hue. This new selection can take full sun without foliage burn, but will be just as colorful in part shade. Use it as an accent in a mixed border or a focal specimen in any garden space for months of color and a gorgeous backdrop to flowering shrubs.

METASEQUOIA GLYPTOSTROBOIDES ‘URBAN

SPIRE’ PPAF

Some plants were born to make a statement. This new columnar dawn redwood found by our friends at Sam Brown’s Nursery in Malvern, PA ,does just that. Upright and quick growing, this could be the next best tree for urban spaces. It is a true spire and will fit well into smaller, urban spaces, make the perfect tree for city street tree plantings and even small home gardens, and boulevards. Urban Spire will also serve as an exclamation point in the back of any garden border or open garden space. Since dawn redwoods are so tolerant of extreme soils, we think this new selection will help designers and homeowners have a fantastic new tree for properties with poorly drained, new construction soil, or spots where the soil can be wet in the spring and then extremely dry in the summer. This is one versatile tree.

THUJA X

‘JUNIOR GIANT’ PP31297 Arbovitaes are prized for the contribution they make as evergreen privacy screens. Fast growing, with dark-green, fragrant, feathery foliage, they are regarded as America’s most distinguished landscape plant. Well guess what folks??? The famous ‘Green Giant’ sprouted a baby! Instead of a 30–40’ tall specimen, Junior Giant will mature at 15–20’, making it a much better fit for sites where space is limited. Just as long-lived as its predecessor, plant Junior Giant on 5’ spacings and expect to enjoy your own privacy for up to 40 years. You have to admit; this is an excellent investment!

TILIA ‘KROMM’ SWEET

STREET™ PP30737

An extremely uniform grower, Kromm linden is a selection found by Darrell Kromm of Reesville Ridge Nursery in Reeseville, WI. Favored for its tight, pyramidal habit, it has lustrous dark-green leaves that persist late into the season. The bark is light grey to silver in color. Sweet Street™ originated from a native seed source in Dodge Co. WI, making it very winter hardy. Due to its narrow habit, it can be used in more constricted spaces than other Tilia cultivars, giving us the confidence that Sweet Street will make a useful tree for urban street plantings. Like all Tilia americana, it has sweet smelling flowers that are prized by bee keepers for the linden honey they make. It appears to have good Japanese beetle resistance but hasn’t been thoroughly tested for that trait yet.
