My Name is Andrew Sauers and I am currently enrolled in my 3rd year of the Ba. of Architecture program at Philadelphia University. I chose to pursue architecture because it brings to light my deepest curiousities about how the world works and demands critical thinking. Some of my interests and involvement outside of architecture are: -Soccer (I play center-back for the Men’s Soccer team at Philadelphia University) -Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) -Alpha Lambda Delta (Freshman Honors Society) -Drawing/Painting -Piano (Jazz Specifically)

1 Glass Pavilion With the new PhilaU/TJU merger, both campuses are in need of a link since they are in vastly different settings. Both schools have reputable programs and pride themselves on innovation and collaborative interdisciplinary education. In this glass pavilion, the focus is celebrating both institutions’ core values. The pavilion itself serves as an interactive tool for self-motivation. Also, the pavilion will be located along a well travelled path within each campus. The structure is a simple metal frame that supports the glass walls and roof. This project utilizes the transparent qualities of glass to slide and overlap planes so that different motivational phrases can be created. Each one of the sliding glass panes on the inside of the pavilion have the phrase: “Today, I will...” so that the user can finish his or her phrase with whichever ‘end phrase’ applies to them that day. The ‘end phrases’ appear on the outer wall of glass which remains stationary. The words themselves are etched into the glass and up-lit from within the frame with playful colors to accentuate the powerful feeling of motivation.

2 Art Therapy Center Modulus is an art therapy center that strives to provide the framework for developing dynamic, interconnected relationships between the building and the people who inhabit it. The process began with a volume that was scaled in respect to the urban context of the site. Then, the volume was overlayed with a grided system to provide the scheme for apropriately sized room modules. And finally, through the process of planar subtraction, a richness of dialogue between program and space was reached. This design is sited on the intersection of 20th and Arch st in Philadelphia, PA. This design focuses on the rich interior spaces and relationships between program and people. The design is derived from the process of subtraction and carving of planes from the inside out. Since the truest experience of a building is from the inside, the exterior facade is simply a result of the interior spaces and their need for natural light penetration. This building offers a variety of large and small spaces: In some places, the visitor can find themselves in 40 foot high spaces offering a sense of connectivity, and in others they can find themselves in 10 foot high spaces which offers a sense of security. 3 ADHD Sensory Center The Sensory Center is a responsive node center that can be used by students, inhabitants of the area, and those who are interested in ADHD or sensory experiences. The Sensory Center is located in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn - an artistic community full of millennials, Pratt Institute students, and young families. The site is directly across the street from the Pratt Institute, inviting students and all users inside to experience the space after a long day of low stimulation from classes or work. Inspired by the brain reactions of students with ADHD, we created a sculptural space which will stimulate each sensory reaction of the brain. We constructed a contrasting interior and exterior to further stimulate and surprise users. Our node is split up into two main spaces: a low stimulation space for users who are over stimulated, and a high stimulation space for users who are under-stimulated or looking for distractions and interest. The high stimulation space consists of a coffee bar, fidget space, vestibular sensory space, and a responsive space. The low stimulation space is a cove-like space that exudes relaxation and is full of sound-absorbing felt. All spaces of the Sensory Center promote responsive motions or reactions through materials, lighting, interactive furniture, or the sculptural architecture itself.

1.MT3 Rocking Chair - fidget space seating: Rocking chair for optimal movement, visual high stimulation. 2.Remix Rocking Chair - high stimulation space Lounge rocking chairs for users to escape to; increases fidget movements but are sloped backwards & ergonomic and make users feel comfortable in a possibly uncomfortable space. 3.Magis Spun chair - vestibular space seating; Vestibular sensory seating for optimal movement, high stimulation, and a way to relieve pent up energy amongst those with diagnosed ADHD 4.Nunoerin Sparkle Table Wood - receptive space table: A touch-sensitive light up table to increase stimulation activate recepotive senses, and focus users’ distractions. 5.Enea Cafe Stool - Coffee space - Bar height stools: Swivel bar stools to increase fidget movements; no seat back to initiate receptive senses and increase focus and stimulation. 6.Nunoerin Thermosensitive Bean Bags & Stools Receptive space seating: Heat sensitive bean bags to increase focus and interest in the space; bean bags for lounging and sphere stools for short-term seating. 7.Luma 9.0 Bench - Low stimulation space bench: An ergonomic lounge bench to create a “hugging” for users; optimal for lounging and relaxing, and lowering stimulation. 8.Bistro Chair - Cafe Seating: Table height cafe seating with curved wing back to increase a “hugging” and personal sense. 9.Nelson Cocnut Chair - Low stimulation space seating: Scooped lounge seating to increase relaxation, overall comfort , and lower stimulation.

4 Personal Artwork I have always loved art. To be able to appreciate and understand art, I believe a similar level of criticism is required similar to architecture. For me, art has always been an outlet for creative freedom which has allowed me to ‘break the rules’, innovate, and question my perceptions. In the next few pages, I have some samples of my work that I’ve created. I have experiemented with many art styles in an effort to find my own, but have not yet settled for my own. Work Experience 5/16 - 8/16

LSC Design LLC - York, PA - At LSC, I worked on a variety of projects. I helped create a library of standard detail in Revit. I also helped design a presentation booklet for the Pheonix Contact building, a design submission which won an AIA award for sustainable design. In addition, I assisted with renderings and post-processing them with Photoshop. During my time at LSC, I also made multiple site visits for field surveying. While surveying, I assisted with point-cloud scanning and using the point cloud to model to more accurate dimensions.

Kinsley Construction - York, PA - At Kinsley, I worked as a laborer in the Site Division. I worked in a two-man team with my foreman to grade a residential development for roads to be built. During my time at Kinsley, I gained experience with utilizing construction documents, utilizing surveying equipment, soil testing, understanding OSHA standards, and operating equipment. I also excavated for water mains, and verizon conduits, and operated rollers, skid-loaders, dump trucks, and back-hoes.

Touch of Italy - I worked at Touch of Italy, an Italian Restaurant, for a summer in high school. I worked washing the dishes in back of house. It was the first job I had and it taught me the value of hardwork and discipline.
