ahrain takes centre stage in October 2003 with the launch of an international annual water conference at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre on Monday 6 October. Desalination of brack and sea water are extremely costly solutions and continue to place further strain on global energy resources. In many countries (and Middle Eastern countries are no exception) large quantities of processed water are lost during distribution due to leakage and unaccounted consumption. Improved life styles have resulted in massive new water requirements globally and the strain is now being felt. This specialised conference and exhibition, the first of its kind to be held in the Middle East, will address water problems specific to the region, North Africa and Central & Western Europe. The event will be held under the patronage of the Minister of Water and Electricity, Shaikh Abdulla bin Salman Al Khalifa. Special emphasis will be focussed on innovative costeffective solutions in desalination, water recycling and water conservation saving services. The Bahrain government’s initiative provides a platform for international and regional water experts to exchange information on the latest technological developments and new applications from around the world.
