LAUDERHILL SHEEP CO asks that ... All dog walkers and horse riders please avoid ewes and lambs on the Common during lambing time which runs from 1st April to 19th June.

Diane Mitchell, local artist, is preparing for a solo exhibition of her work - past and present - at the Flat Cat Gallery in Lauder. There will be paintings from home and abroad as well as seascapes and other themes. Some will be big, some small, with a few in between and will be priced to sell. Half of the profits will be going to Macmillan Cancer Support. The date of the preview is Thursday June 1st from 6 - 8pm to which you are warmly invited (along with your cheque book!) Please put the date in your diary! In addition, Diane will be in the gallery on Saturday June 3rd from 2-4pm to host a Q&A session for anyone who is interested in hearing more about the work. The exhibition will run for a week from June 2nd -June 8th. Here are some sobering facts about cancer In the Scottish Borders: • There are currently over 4,700 people living here with cancer • Over 700 people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the Borders • Sadly over 300 people have died from cancer every year • 66 people in the Borders were supported by Macmillan Professionals last year by calling the support line • Macmillan gave out 149 financial grants in 2016 totalling £30,829 to people affected by cancer in the Borders • It costs £28 per hour to fund a Macmillan Nurse to help people affected by cancer medically and emotionally So please do come along and support this invaluable and much respected charity.
