The project was a private commission, the owner of the craft beer "Sparta", Sebastian Santana, was interested in a building capable to stand out from the competition just as he did with his beer.

As a background, we must say that the project is practically surrounded by a mountain and existing buildings, therefore it only has one free side for an unique face. Finally, the buildable area within the land was limited, having barely 13 ft. (4 meters) on it's narrowest side and 23 ft. (7 meters) on it's widest.

For this reason, we attempted to design a structure that embodies multiple aspects within the same limited space.

A screen for the face was selected because of its unique qualities with the combination of hollow bricks, a closed but permeable space, both transparent and opaque, free-form yet contained, modular yet sculptural.

The result was a movable and dynamic Screen Facade, which the user can open and rotate in different angles as he want, creating unique atmospheres with different combinations. The combinations are as endless as the user's creativity, reflecting the craft beer composition that is an experimentation in itself.

Site Plan The project had the challenge of its shape and measures.

It barely had 13 feet on its narrowest side and 23 on its widest. Therefore, generating a permeable facade was essential to improve the quality of the space.

In addition, because the project is practically inserted in a mountain, it only has one free face, the other three are surrounded by existing constructions and dirt.

Materiality The hollowed brick was selected for the facade for several reasons, first, it was visually permeable, second, it has the proper color, contrast and texture for a brewery and finally, because of its lightness, it was ideal for a movable structure by pivots.

For these reasons, the space inside could have different atmospheres because of its hollowness, it blurs the interior with the exterior without loosing the privacy for the users.

Le Plant, is a company involved in the investigation and development of vegetable species with the goal to improve the productivity, quality and agricultural sustentability. Therefore, they needed a project for the new headquarters which will be capable to show their innovation.

The project is located in a rural zone of the city , and the idea is to generate organaic spaces that change as the user walks trough them. The slopping roof in its different points and angles conect the visual between the user and the nature.

Finally the vegetable patch is the heart of the project, is the experimental space and the production core.

Industrias Catedral is a business group that manufactures and markets products derived from wheat. However, their current industrial plant is at its production limit. Therefore, they decided to expand with a new cutting-edge industrial plant.

The projects idea is maximized the time consuming between its internal production lines such as: people, lift trucks, trailers and the final consumer. Therefore, the proposal raises several corridors with different scales corresponding to their respective uses, connecting at the same time the industrial, commercial and administrative platform.

The corridors help to understand the whole project and define each space to its own activity. These corridors will only interpose themselves at specific points following the project requirements, for example: when it needs to connect the raw material at the pasta factory and the mill with the adjacent warehouse and finally with the mini market and bakery, all controlled by the administrative offices.

The molded platforms have their own area and shape according to its specific use. The project is divided in three different platforms: administrative, commercial and industrial.

Each platform has a hierarchical space which is the core of every division of the company. First, the offices for the administrative platform. Then, the bakery for the commercial platform.

And finally, the pasta factory and the mill for the industrial platform.

Circulation to Use

Internal Corridor The internal corridor function in two ways. First, connects the corporate with the warehouses in case of an inspection. And second, connects the warehouse with the mini market and the bakery for product supply.

Public Corridor The public connects the parking lot for clients and workers with the offices, the mini market. It is the only public and open corridor in the entire project and it is the point of start for all of the users.

Private Corridor The private connects the internal roads in two different directions.

First, the main road that supply the mill and retrieve the finish product from the warehouses with trucks and trailers. And second, the road the lead the small vehicles to the parking lot.

Offices' sunlight The administrative platform is an important part of the project because is the area where most of the people is going to work. Therefore, the windows and openings in the offices are considered in the west and east sides so the space can catch as much sunlight as it is possible.

Warehouse' sunlight The industrial platform and the warehouses specifically, are going to store delicate products such as flour and pasta. Consequently, the big windows and doors for supply and retrieve material, are facing north.

Bakery and Mini-Market The core of the commercial platform is the Bakery inside of the mini-market, which works with flour made in the same production plant, in the industrial platform.

Commercial and Administrative Platforms The night view from the corner of both platforms show the main entrance for the general client and the employees of the industrial plant.

Internal Corridor The view corresponds to the connection between the offices and the warehouses and shows its use mixed between corporate and employees.

Internal Corridor The corridor along the warehouse connect the entire production from the industrial platform which is sectioned in several products like: pasta, flour, noodles and candles.

Mill The mill is the core of the industrial platform and the company flagship building. The function of the building is to transform the wheat into flour and in the process generate alternative derived from the wheat husk.

The project was born from a national competition with the aim of creating a space as a showroom, since Graiman is one of the largest producers and importers of ceramic and finished products in Ecuador. The only basis for the contest was an ephemeral design, few elements, and rapid construction.

For the Graiman Pavilion, a design has been chosen that is capable not only of showing the true essence of Graiman products and the sensitivity that they can evoke, but also exploring their aesthetic and functional possibilities. It was not thought of a specific place, the idea of ​​the pavilion is that it follows the universal trend of Graiman products, for a generic space is proposed capable of being implanted in any region.

The idea is that the design could be able to generate its own environment by means of micro -atmospheres, which relate the Graiman product to: natural and artificial light, covered and open spaces, indoors and outdoors.

From com to singu Kinetic Color Although a design inspired by the work of the Venezuelan kinetic artist Carlos Cruz-Diez is proposed, the materiality of the pavilion is composed entirely of Graiman products, where most modules are white, and only the rotating modules acquire color and the combinations are as varied as Graiman products.

Concept The proposal redefines a single element as an entire building. Starting with a repetitive stacking of an empty module, the layout becomes a cubic space with two hierarchical peripheral corners.

On the one hand, the corner of the entrance, with welldefined orthogonal modules, and on the other hand, as the project heads towards the opposite corner, the modules begin to rotate by five degrees until they reach ninety degrees.

Finally, the project is constantly changing as the user walks through it, redefining the limits between inside and outside, between solid and translucent, between material and immaterial, between monochromatic and color.

The basis of the contest was to design a building capable of containing spaces with different levels and points of view towards the Kurgi farm. Therefore, the idea is basically an observation tower prioritizing the circulation throughout the building and transform this notion of a closed stairwell into an open and fluid element. This fluidity unites the entire project and makes both vertical connection with the building's structure and horizontal with the Kurgi farm.

Regarding the program, the idea is to conceived open spaces with unique areas and heights with the objective to allow them to have flexibility and variety of uses and visual relationships.

The tower materializes the idea of having a floating and uninterrupted ramp with different access points. We evolve from the static and close module of stairs to the dynamic and fluid element of the ramp.

It is special because it has different levels and connections as the user goes down and up throughout the ramp.. Each level serves as little observation points for different angels inside the Kurgi Farm.

It is the last space before the terrace and, as a culmination point, it has both, vertical connection with the lower levels and horizontal connection with the natural environment of Kurgi Farm.

As the culmination of the ramp and the project, this floor offers a complete panoramic view with a two meters wide, uninterrupted corridor spanning the perimeter for the pedestrian to experience different atmospheres.

The design explores the idea of an urban regeneration trough a green complex, synthesizing the existing topography and the stepped typology. The chosen typology works as an articulator between: the city, the project, and the park, leaving intact green spaces to run throughout the entire project, avoiding the redundancy of architecture as a wall.

Finally, all hierarchical spaces are contained underneath the stepped architecture, leaving the terraces along the design as viewpoints towards the city.

The project propose a green roof as an architectural solution to the problem of urban layout projection within the existing park. The roof is an extension of the street and therefore an extension of public space that interact with the bus and train station and the craft market.

The proposal becomes the culmination of the main streets of the city turning itself into a new landmark that walks throughout the city, the project and the park.

The project is conceived with the theme of the Venice Biennale 2016 "Reporting from the Front" presenting a constant problem in Ecuador, displacement of people by volcanic eruptions.

Therefore, as a refuge for inhabitants of a zone with volcanic threats, the project explores the idea of an integration of the human being with its activity in a temporary housing, so that they can continue producing within the same shelter in an emergency case. The concept is transferred to Venice as a form of the shelter and resting spaces from the sun and the long walks that people have to go throughout the biennale for several days in a row.
