People with Down syndrome have both physical and cognitive characteristics, quite particular, which implies in most cases, the clothing they use on a daily basis is not adequate. These physical characteristics correspond to different body proportions (smaller size, greater weight, shorter extremities or with certain distortions and deformities, among others), and a deficiency of cognitive development that can sometimes be related to certain reduced motor skills, which, does not allow them to handle certain elements that are found in clothing. Despite these limitations, people with Down syndrome have a happy, social, and extroverted personality. Not all individuals who have this condition have similar personalities, however, in many cases, they share common physical features. MATERIALS FABRICS Gabardine Waterproof Nylon Knit fabric

Considering this, one must be aware of the designer’s role in the question of their ability and provide options that improve the quality of life. In light of the lacking in design that meets the needs of this target, 8 prototypes of clothing adapted to young people with Down Syndrome were developed.

Project description The thesis project seeks to reduce the problems that people with Down syndrome have with respect to their clothing because their cognitive, psychomotor and physiognomic condition generates certain inconveniences in their daily lives. A collection of casual clothing adapted to their needs was made, for which they are based on criteria of functionality, ergonomics, design; and, above all, the profile of the subject evaluated in the study. The project is focused on people in the city of Cuenca aged between 19 to 29 years.

Project goals

The objectives that pursue the design of this type of clothing are: -Design clothing that can facilitate the use of users and thus provide comfort and accessibility in clothing to people with Down Syndrome, based on ergonomic criteria. -Carry out designs that are identifiable to the selected target, based on deep research criteria of the trend market and that can be satisfactorily related to the market. -Make prototypes of high quality in terms of its process, its design, and its final presentation.

The following collection seeks to give freedom to these people, in a way that they are ready to face the world and feel satisfied with their own freedom.
