Harding University | Expected Graduation May 2025

Hello!

My name is Andrea Rossi, and I am a student at Harding University pursuing a B.F.A. in Interior Architecture and Design to earn a Master of Architecture degree. My passion for health, wellness, and purposeful design drives me to create sustainable spaces that positively impact the lives of others.

My passion for health and wellness fuels my interest in creating designs that promote well-being through thoughtful architectural and interior solutions. By blending my interests in healthy living and sustainable design, I aim to create spaces supporting natural and built environments while enhancing human experiences. Health and wellness are deeply rooted in my daily life through consistent research on nutrition, physical activity, and personal growth guided by mentors. This passion for a healthy lifestyle naturally intersects with my love for design, driving me to create healthy, beautiful, and sustainable spaces. I believe in the continuous process of improvement, recognizing that diverse backgrounds shape how users, architects, and designers perceive beauty and function. This perspective motivates me to design spaces uniquely tailored to users, fostering comfort and connection. As a future architect, my goal is to protect and enrich environments for all users while continuously evolving as a thoughtful and innovative designer.

Group Project

Objective Statement

The King Tutankhamen excavation in 1924 served as the inspiration for Memphis, Tennessee’s NEBU, a fine dining, experiential restaurant. The beauty and mystique of the Egyptian afterlife are brought to life by NEBU via the study of Egyptian culture and history. Through its opulent and serene interiors, NEBU

will transport its visitors to the ancient golden era of the Pharaohs. During a four-course dinner that represents the mummification process and connects to our conceptual inspiration, guests will be led on a trip via the recounting of Egyptian history.

Concept Statement

Nebu - Established from the Arabic translation of the symbol gold. The qualities of King Tutankhamen’s tomb’s discovery and significance are characterized by the gold inspiration of luxury and richness. Rich ruby and emerald hues are used in the opulent design to mirror the valuables interred in ancient Egyptian tombs. A major architectural component of this immersive dining

experience is the stone corridors, which are designed after the confined passages and channels below ground in the pyramids. Accent lighting grazes the rough texture of the walls creating contrast and definition. Chair finishes and lighting fixtures are detailed with gold embellishments to evoke a sense of splendor.

The Second floor is inspired by the chambers within a pyramid that lead to the ultimate extravagant rooms held within the heart of the pyramid. The General Dining and Private Dining rooms are designed to unveil an experiential dining experience to guests.

The Third Floor, also called the Rooftop, takes design element from the Ancient Egyptian Belief of the afterlife. By emerging guests to this highest floor with optimal views of the Bass Pro Pyramid, and River Front Views, guests will feel enlightened by the end of their dining experience.

Memphis’s Relationship to Egyptian Culture

The Egyptian city of Memphis, capital during the Old Kingdom, was located by the Nile. The name “Memphis” reflects the significance of the Mississippi River in Tennessee. The Pyramid Arena, inspired by Egyptian architecture, was built as a sports and entertainment venue and now houses the Bass Pro Shop.

Personal Contribution

As project manager for the Nebu team project, I assigned roles, set deadlines, communicated expectations, and organized meetings. My design contributions include the General Dining area, building design, space planning, Egyptian-inspired elements, and site selection.

The General Dining area

draws inspiration from the luxurious treasures of large tombs, incorporating elevating ramps within underground channels. The building structure reflects my knowledge of pyramid evolution. Space planning was a collaborative effort inspired by the 1924 excavation of King Tutankhamun’s tomb.

We designed the experiential dining area to mimic the tomb’s layout.

The site was chosen for its direct Mississippi River views, proximity to downtown Memphis (within a two-mile radius for moderate noise and high tourist traffic), and unobstructed views of the Bass Pro Pyramid.

WELLNESS HOUSE

Objective Statement

The wellness home serves to accommodate to the needs of a family with a disabled wheelchair bound Veteran. In his New luxury styles home all the finishes, furnishings, and equipment will be installed to best suit his needs. The integration of Inclusive design in, veteran based design, aging in place, wellness based design, accessibility, and universal design will all take part in this new home. The location was particularly selected for the purpose of requiring low volume, warm temperatures, and local veteran necessities and activities within proximity.

Concept Statement

A pier is a platform leading out from a shore into a body of water. However, for this platform to be efficient, it must be supported on pillars extending deep in the ocean floor to attain sustainable support. As the pillars within the water hold up the platform, a home must be held up and supported by the foundation upon which it is placed. This wellness home will integrate the concept of support with the idea of pillars and structure being integrated throughout the home design. This home will also have physical support when meeting the requirements of aging in place, universal design, accessibility, overall wellness, inclusive design, and veteran necessities.

The Mezzanine Work Stations are positioned directly above the first floor workstations. They share a similar linear slat ceiling element for acoustics and aesthetics to fulfill the motion concept. As a physical connection, the Private offices below, share the same curved acoustical ceiling that is shaped to flow directly over them. The team spaces also have immediate proximity to their supervisors. Team member viewpoints are improved by the smart glass curtain in the supervisors’ private office.

Each workstation provides access to a table for collaboration. To establish separation, the collaboration table is positioned between team sections and acoustical carpet. This maintains privacy while encouraging a collaborative environment (open enclosed idea). The ceiling element’s length and width are identical to those of the curved wooden slats. To further reduce excessive noise levels, the OCL pendant lights are acoustical.
