Project: Orthodox church Since the Byzantium empire the Greek orthodox churches are still keeping the same architecture. Our goal is to design a contemporary Orthodox church but with respect to all the rules and principles of the Orthodox tradition.

Mood board

The location we have chosen is Thessaloniki the second most powerful city during the byzantium era, and the Byzantium architecture is still very evident in the city. Also the first Christian community founded in Thessaloniki . The first The earliest known letter by Paul the Apostle was written to

the early Christian church in Thessaloniki and is identified as First Thessalonians; it is among the books in the New Testament whose authorship byPaul is generally regarded by scholars as being undisputed .A later letter to the samechurch follows in the Christian Bible as Second Thessalonians. More specifically the location is at the entrance of city`s port , this particular spot is in between of Olympos and Athos . Mountain Olympos is where the ancient Greek gods were living and mountain Athos is in ‘’Agion oros’’ an Othodox indepentand state. From these particular spot in a good wheather day you can see both mountains and of course the city of Thesssaloniki.

The form of our construction refers to Crusifiction of Jesus. The Cross, His body and the nails to His body. The 3 red ‘’nails’’ are the bell towers of the church, each of one for different occasion all together for the biggest celebration, the ressurection of Jesus.

The iconostasis, also called the τεµπλον/templon, it is a screen or wall between the nave and the sanctuary, which is covered with icons. There will normally be three doors, one in the middle and one on either side. The central one is traditionally called the Beautiful Gate and is only used by the clergy. The iconostasis in our church made by concrete.
