do you use your hands to eat?

Birthday cakes ! Such a joy to share. I’ve always found it a thrill to cut birthday cakes but I must say it does get messy - and that’s when the hands come in. These hands are my friend’s hands helping out the birthday girl to cut her cake. Messy hands, indeed, covered in smooth buttery cream and rough confetti sprinkles. A slice of cake passed around here and there leaving you with sticky sweet-tasting hands .
It was an autumn afternoon at an Indian fusion fashion market in a courtyard in Brooklyn. It was as if I was transported back to India. The colors, the savors, the smells, the textures, the sweet scent of flowers, the sparkly jewelry, the henna on women’s hands ... and of course there was food - small bites that you eat with your hands - the crispy and oily feel of the samosas, the soft grainy texture of the chaat and the crisp and brittle nature of the pani puri.
Eating an egg tart. It fits quite well in your hand actually and wierdly you only need to use your thumb and middle fingers to hold it. The sweet and soft egg filling is surrounded by a buttery and crispy pastry puff, which leaves a lot of crumbs at the tip of your fingers.
This was when my friend and I were walking in Chinatown enjoying egg tarts and portuguese tarts. Coincidently it was the same day there was the Chinese New year parade.
so, do you use your hands to eat?
