This large sol itary wasp digs a bur足 row a foot or so deep. I n side passages the female stores adult cicadas which she has pa ralyzed by stinging. The heavy cicadas a re dragged u p a tree by the kil ler ti ll she can get enough a ltitude to _fly back to her burrow. When the egg hatches, the la rva feeds on the h e l pless cicada. In a week it is f u l l grown a n d pu pates in a l oose cocoon. It emerges the fo l lowing sum mer, com足 pleting its l ife cyc le.
