MESSAGES FROM OUR GRADUATES

FELIPE DA SILVA | Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering

A Ph.D. degree demands the development and improvement of several skills like dedication, discipline, organization, resilience, communication, and willpower. Moreover, the equilibrium of work and life is strictly necessary to keep good mental health and motivation to work and be successful in other activities. In addition, the support of family and close friends gives the energy that several times might be missing. Therefore, the engagement in activities with beloved ones must be a part of the process. At the end of the Ph.D. program, the brand-new doctor should have the technical skills related to the research/teaching in the specific area of study. However, the soft skills will give wise directions to the success.

PRYA DARSHNI | Master of Science in Electrical Engineering Heartfelt gratitude for the TA’ship, world-class education, excellent mentorship of Dr. Miguel Velez-Reyes (Electrical & Computer Engineering) and safety escort by the UTEP police (could not have come this far without burning the midnight oil in my office). Antenna for Mars sample return, NASA JPL graduate fellowship and many awards. All this belongs entirely to UTEP. Continuing my Ph.D. journey in a new school.

TAHSIN RAHMAN | Master of Science in Electrical Engineering Much emphasis is placed today on thinking outside the box and changing the world. Don’t be afraid if you feel like you can’t. Focus on being fulfilled, proficient, mindful, and kind. The world needs that too.

IVAN VALENZUELA | Master of Science in Electrical Engineering Graduating from The University of Texas at El Paso has been a great experience. I want to thank my family for all the support that I was given through my career finishing my Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. I am proud to represent UTEP and what we stand as I begin my professional career with Lockheed Martin.
