Duration: 4 Minutes
Alone Together, commissioned by the Jordan High School Choir directed by Juan-Jose Garcia II, sets the poignant poem wriYen by the commissioner, Juan-Jose Garcia II. The musical se[ng begins with a dark, somber four note moCve that is split between the Violin & Cello, perhaps represenCng two people separated by circumstance. There is an occasional 3/4 measure to imply a feeling of longing and incompleteness. The piece starts to shi` into a more hopeful tonality at SecCon D, as the narrator experiences "a presence, all powerful, ever present". The piece blossoms into a pop-infused Chorus at SecCon G, where we realize that we may feel alone but we are sCll together in our hearts.
This piece would fit well in any concert about friendship and/or featuring a Mixed Voice Choir.
As I walk across the shore
And reach out for something more, I feel the pangs of loneliness fill my Cred soul.
I ask why, why this feeling
But I am silent, ever grieving And I believe that there is nothing le` in store.
Then I am awoken by a presence All powerful, ever present It surrounds me Envelops me. Brings me joy, I find my voice.
As I look around to see My friends’ alone together, with me.
Alone Together
We are Alone Together. Wherever we may go, Through oceans wide and depths below. Our ships may part, But we hold each other's hearts. Alone Together
