ENVIRONMENTAL YOUTH CAMP @ AC ZAMBOANGA AC Zamboanga in partnership with the ADZU Social Awareness and Community Service Involvement (SACSI) office conducted a five day environmental camp from April 4-8. One hundred youth participants joined the camp and learned from various environmental initiatives, programs, projects and activities. The camp sought to equip participants with the skills in coastal and upland resource management, at the same time molding them to become stewards in conserving, protecting and sustaining the environment.

U.S. EMBASSY TALKS: A FILM SCREENING ON "EAST SIDE SUSHI” On April 6, TJIC hosted a "U.S. Embassy Talks" with a film screening on "East Side Sushi." The film introduces Juana, a working-class Latina single mother who strives to become a sushi chef. Against all odds, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, determined to not let anyone stop her from achieving her dreams. Culinary Arts students from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and Lyceum of the Philippines University participated in the film screening and film discussion moderated by Consular Officer Michael Barrera.

KIDS BATTLE ON PLASTIC BOTTLES PROGRAM OF AC MARAWI On April 6, AC Marawi hosted a one day activity entitled “Kids Battle on Plastic Bottles.” The activity gathered 950 youth participants for a whole day event, that included a lecture on proper waste disposal, and the installation of six globeshaped steel trash bins in the Mindanao State University. The highlight of the event was the gathering of empty plastic bottles and putting them in the giant globe trash bins. The battle on plastic bottles is part of the Go Green initiative of the American Corner to promote environmental awareness and protection.


IWP ALUMNI WRITER’S WORKSHOP AT AC MANILA In celebration of National Literature Month (Buwan ng Panitikan ng Filipinas), AC Manila partnered with the DLSU's Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center to conduct a three- day International Writing Program (IWP) Writers Workshop on April 6-8. Filipino writers who completed the IWP at the University of Iowa served as resource speakers. The creative writing workshop focused on four genres of creative writing; poetry, non-fiction, fiction, and screenplay.

"SAVE LIFE FROM COAST TO REEF” A COASTAL CLEAN-UP PROJECT OF AC TAWI TAWI On April 19, AC Tawi-Tawi, in partnership with the Tawi-Tawi Research and Conservation Society and other agencies, conducted a Coastal Clean-up with the theme “Save Life from Coast to Reef” along the coastline of Brgy. Pahut to Sanga-Sanga, Bongao, TawiTawi. The activity aims to promote cleanliness in the community and save marine life resources.

COASTAL CLEANUP ORGANIZED BY AC ILOILO On April 19, AC Iloilo in partnership with the Municipality of Guimbal, conducted a Coastal Clean-up at Barangay Cabasi Guimbal Iloilo as part of the Go Green Campaign of the Corner. There were seventy volunteers from the community who participated in the clean-up.

AC CAGAYAN DE ORO CONDUCTED A LECTURE ON GOOD GOVERNANCE Twenty-five student leaders participated in a lecture on Good Governance on April 21 at AC CDO. The lecture focused on civil society and how to lead community initiative programs.

EARTH WEEK CAMPAIGN OF AC BAGUIO AC Baguio celebrated Earth Day through a week-long environmental awareness campaign. A poster exhibit on proper ways to protect the environment was displayed and a trivia contest on the history of Earth Day was also hosted by the AC.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE WORKSHOP AT AC DUMAGUETE On April 28, thirty participants discovered fun in learning with Mr. Charlie Lavin, an English language fellow who conducted a workshop on Active Vocabulary Learning Techniques at AC Dumaguete.


URBAN CONTAINER GARDENING WORKSHOP AT AC COTABATO AC Cotabato hosted a two-day Urban Container Gardening Seminar Workshop from April 26-27 as part of the Corner’s Go Green initiative. The urban gardening project helps the community to plant organic vegetables at the same time add to the greenery. The trainer of the workshop Jojo Rom is an expert in Urban Container Gardening. More than forty community members from District 8 of Cotabato City participated in the event.

CONNECTING CORNERS CHALLENGE: EARTH DAY! On April 24, AC Batac, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Dumaguete and Tawi Tawi, celebrated Earth Day through the American Spaces PH Connecting Corners Challenge (CCC) webinars in partnership with U.S. International Exchange Alumni-Philippines. Distinguished U.S. Filipino alumni speakers in the field of environmental science discussed about Nature and Wildlife Conservation Practices and Programs in the Philippines. The American Spaces Connecting Corners Challenge encourages the 14 American Corners to host an interactive webinar and introduce and increase familiarity with U.S. mission goal priorities, including the environment, civic engagement, education, entrepreneurship and English language to a wide array of audiences, including Filipino students, leaders, educators and professionals. This program also highlights our U.S. government exchange alumni in all the regions where our American corners are situated.
