AMSEP (Asian Medical Students’ Exchange Programme) is an integral programme unique to AMSA. The programme allows members of AMSA to participate in a 5 to 10-day preclinical or clinical exchange to a chapter of their liking. The programmes and activities held during an AMSEP vary, subject to discussion by the involved parties. Nonetheless, AMSEP intrinsically roots back to AMSA’s philosophy: Knowledge, Action, and Friendship with three main pillars – academic, sociocultural and community service. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, all offline exchange programmes have been put to halt and as we continue to strive in virtual sustainability, we aspire to venture further in creating exciting memories together. All offline exchange programmes are currently replaced with virtual exchanges within AMSA chapters and with EMSA and FAMSA respectively.

DIGITAL LEARNING IN MEDICINE WORKSHOP event

Since the COVID19 outbreak, the medical education for a lot of medical schools has gone online. Not only lectures, but also internships in certain countries would require digital learning. However, the quality of medical education online is affected by many factors and is not stable, which would create great gaps among various health systems in the long term. Thus, this year AMSA International will partner with Lecturio (medical educational application) and Body Interact (clinical simulator) to solve this problem by holding this workshop. Lecturio and Body Interact offered discount codes and free trials to all AMSA members to help AMSA members to adjust to the new era. If anyone interested in the discount codes, feel free to use.

1. Lecturio (lecturio.com/ ) : 14-days free trial( lecturio.com/orgs/amsainternational/ )

2. Body Interact (bodyinteract.com/ ) : 20% discount codes: AMSA-Int20

Greetings people of tomorrow! I am Annisa/Denis, the departing Liaison Officer to Non-Medical Students’ Organisations of 2021/2022 tenure. AMSA International provided me with numerous opportunities, from fostering the partnership with our beloved partners, strengthen the bond with AMSA familia, and even honored to join my fellow EC’s events. These experiences provided three values AMSA has always sought: from Knowledge, Action, to Friendship. Working in the international environment taught me to cherish the diversity while humbling myself to hear the unpredecented ideas from my fellows. I hope the next tenure will propel AMSA International to greater heights, particularly through collaborations with NMSO.

Doctors and attorneys, as nobel professions, coexisted to serve the society. The two collide when scrub suits encounter a lawsuit, which is seldom mentioned among the professions. This novel-themed partnership between AMSA and ALSA was formed to give a venue for future physicians and lawyers to address medical malpractice. Workshops seek to comprehend what happens beyond the lens in each profession while dealing with it and to stimulate future collaboration between the two. This massive partnership comprised two speakers from separate continents and 196 students from 12 countries, making it the largest event under LONMSO jurisdiction this tenure.

GLOBAL HEALTH TRAININGS event

A GHT refers to a training specially tailored for the members of AMSA International to empower participants with the resources and opportunities in global health. It is a series of at least four training sessions in one tenure. GHTs should be designed with simulated scenarios to encourage critical thinking and practical applications through deliveries by global health specialists, advised by the AMSA Global Health Advisory Board. Certifications are provided on completion of the series of GHTs.

The objectives guiding the GHTs are:

1. To focus on training AMSA members in the knowledge of Global Health to learn and develop skills such as policy-making, advocacy, rapporteur training, etc.;

2. To serve as a platform encouraging members to be trained and then partake in any international global health occasions.

I love dad jokes, witty puns, and also dry humor, so please do tell me one if we ever get the chance to meet!

Experience, lessons, and what you liked the most from AMSA International AMSA has taught both the expected and the unexpected. I have learned so much from all of the wonderful Executive Committees, Regional Chairpersons, and even partners I have had the pleasure to work with. AMSA International is a giant melting pot of culture, but also the epitome of an international studentled organisation, where people come together, no matter their background, to discuss ideas and make innovations for the betterment of medical students globally. I will gladly cherish all the hardships and lessons I have gained, but most importantly the pleasant memories I have made here. Thank you AMSA International!

Any message for the next tenure?

AMSA International is able to become what it is today through the hard work and dedication of its members, hence it is pivotal to nourish and grow that sense of belonging, ambition, and love for the organisation. I wish the next tenure all the very best and sincerely hope that everyone can write their own amazing journey in AMSA as I did with mine. Closing this chapter with two quotes that speak to my heart and hopefully do the same to yours:

“If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.” “We are not a team because we work together. We are a team because we respect, trust, and care for each other.”

Always and forever, Viva AMSA!

AMSA INTERNATIONAL EMSA COLLABORATION 2022 event

1. Approaches Towards Childhood Cancer: A Multi-Perspective Discussion

2. Refugee Awareness Week: An Intercontinental Perspective

As the leading medical student associations, especially in the Asia-Pacific and European region, AMSA International and EMSA recognise their responsibilities and the power it has to bring great advocation, spark international discourse, and shed light on important issues. During this tenure, we conducted two events highlighting the topic of childhood cancer and refugees’ health welfare. Both events followed a similar format of inviting prominent speakers in their field of expertise to share and equip participants with new insights, followed by a panel discussion session where participants can directly communicate and ask crucial questions to the forum. The event is closed by a friendship session to facilitate and forge new international friendships between the two continents.

One of the advisors – Marjorie, along with the LOMSO – Keiko, OC – Jimmy, and VOCI – Alif, represented the organisation for the allotted slot. The audience was cruised through the organisation’s profile and shared light on the keynote topic of “Against The Odds: Leading a Medical Students’ Organisation during a Pandemic”. The topic of the presentation was a sequel of the previous keynote lecture delivered in WPC 2021. Many participants stopped by our session and interacted passionately despite the time zone gap. Priscilla Sayogo

Hello readers of ASPIRE, I’m Priscilla from Indonesia and currently I’m in my 3rd year as a medical student in Hang Tuah University. I love traveling and watching movies and dramas p.s. Feel free to recommend me any drama that you currently watch

Throughout my first ever tenure with AMSA International I’ve learned lots of things and developed as a person. I experienced a lot of my first time through AMSA International like my first ever insta gram live with a distinguished speaker, writing my first article and many more. I definitely made a lot of new connections through this experience. I want to thank all of my eNewsletter friends and espe cially our CEN for all of the support and for making my experience as a part of this subsidiary to be as wonderful as it could be.

Thrive and definitely have fun too during your time in AMSA Inter national. You will no doubt gain a lot of experience and develop as a person here. Wishing AMSA International the best luck for the next tenure and I hope we could all meet someday

Nur Hasanah

Hi hi hello everyone! I’m Hasanah from Malaysia, currently a 4th year medical student (struggling knee-deep in ortho) in Interna tional Islamic University Malaysia. I love playing music gigs on the side, just immersing myself in the piano keys or admiring guitar calluses. A true ESFJ right here.

It has been a positive experience so far! The only downside: not be ing able to meet the team in person. But that is to be expected while working in an international team. Through the programmes that we hosted, I was able to meet speakers who added value to my perspective of life. Kassie also has been a wonderful leader who al ways provided a safe space for our discussions. Just remember not to shoulder the whole workload on your own ya Kass <3

Be bold. Have fun. Keep ASPIRE alive!

Samantha Goh

Hi there! I am Samantha, a 4th year medical student at the Univer sity of Glasgow. I enjoy reading, watching movies and listening to good music!

I really enjoyed interacting with the team and being the liaison per son between the editorial board and our chapter. I’ve also enjoyed brainstorming themes and ideas for our newsletter publications. It was difficult gaining participation at first however, this improved through time and the various activities that we organized. I have personally grown and learnt so much just by being in this role and being a part of the team. Thank you!

Don’t give up, always remember why you started doing this in the first place! Medical journalism is a worthy pursuit!
