Grigsby farm is located in Petersburg, Illinois. The well-known farm has consistently turned out some of the largest mature whitetails in the Midwest. To help ensure their chances for results, Stroff arrived a few days early for tree stand scouting. The homework paid dividends as Stroff discovered some very impressive buck signs. The first morning of the hunt provided ideal conditions – temperature of 25 degrees with a perfect wind for the tree stand location.

The event also was webcast via the agency’s website, drew 599 viewers, and served as a means to enable more people to view the public drawing. All 56 hunters selected to receive a license will be mailed a confirmation letter within about a week.

HARRISBURG, PA --(Ammoland.com)- After a five-day delay prompted by Tropical Storm Lee flooding that forced the closure of state offices in the Harrisburg area last week, Pennsylvania Game Commission officials today held a public drawing to award 56 elk licenses for the 2011 season.

AMMOLAND.COM SHOOTING SPORTS NEWS “Over the past two years, we have been pleased to enable the tens of thousands of individuals who apply for an elk license to find out via our webcast if they had been drawn,” said Carl G. Roe, Game Commission executive director.

“We recognize everyone who applies is unable to attend and, given our financial limitations, we can’t afford to send everyone who applied for an elk license a letter letting them know whether they were drawn; we only notify those who were selected.

“By webcasting the public drawing, we reached far more than the two dozen people who attended the event at the agency’s Harrisburg headquarters. In fact, according to the webcasting service we used for today’s broadcast, we saw there were 599 people tuned in at one time.” Roe noted there were 18,253 individuals who applied for the drawing. An additional 487 applicants only purchased a preference point for this year, and were not included in the drawing. “While state law prevents the agency from publishing a list of today’s winners, thanks to another of the agency’s technological leaps forward, those who were in today’s drawings can check on the status of their applications, by Sept. 23, thanks to the new Pennsylvania Automated License System (PALS),” Roe said.

Presently, the status for all elk license applications is listed as “Pending.” Once the database is updated, which is expected by Sept. 23, those who were selected for an elk license will see the status changed to “Awarded,” as well as the designation of the Elk Hunt Zone and whether they were awarded an antlered or antlerless elk license. Those not selected will see the status changed to “Unsuccessful.” To access the information, go to the Game Commission website (www.pgc.state.pa.us), and click on the blue box in the upper right-hand corner of the homepage. Maryland Shall Issue – Annual Meeting Reminder SEP 14, 2011 02:40P.M.

“While this may seem like a lot of clicking and box checking to get to the information, the system is designed to protect an individual’s personal information, while at the same time enabling that person to check on the status of his or her applications, as well as their antlerless deer license applications,” Roe said. “In the past, the only way to know for sure that you were awarded an elk license was to attend the public drawings, wait for a letter in the mail or to call the Game Commission.”

Maryland Shall Issue – Annual Meeting Reminder Meeting Reminder – Please RSVP

Maryland Shall Issue Of the 18 antlered elk licenses, 17 were awarded to Pennsylvania residents, and one awarded to a hunter from Ohio. All 38 antlerless elk licenses were awarded to Pennsylvanians.

Maryland -–(Ammoland.com)- Just another reminder about this Saturday’s Maryland Shall Issue Annual Meeting – Please RSVP so that we can alert the restaurant.

Roe noted preference points played a significant role in determining those drawn. According to results, 21 of the individuals selected for an elk license had nine; four of the individuals selected for an elk license had eight; seven had seven preference points; six had six preference points; five had five preference points; two had four preference points; six had three preference points; and five had two preference points.

The next meeting of Maryland Shall Issue will be held on Saturday, September 17 at 4:00pm at the Riverbay Roadhouse just outside of Annapolis.

All 56 elk license recipients will receive in the mail two copies of the Game Commission’s elk hunter orientation DVD, which they must view prior to the elk hunt, and update materials. The second copy is to be previewed by their guide, if they choose to use a guide. Elk license recipients are not required to use a guide.

The good folks at the Roadhouse have arranged several specials just for MSI members:

In addition to the 56 licenses drawn today, one special Pennsylvania bull elk conservation license was auctioned off by the Safari Club International (SCI) earlier this year at its national convention. The Special Conservation Tag was created by an act of the legislature in 2008. The successful bidder paid $29,000 for this license. Of that, 80 percent will go to the agency to fund habitat development and maintenance work within the elk range. By law, SCI is permitted to retain the remaining 20 percent to defray costs associated with promoting the auction.

• Blackened tuna wrap with fries or slaw

• Chicken club sandwich with fries or slaw

• Turkey reuben with fries or slaw • Philly cheesesteak with fries or slaw You can get any of the above with soda, iced tea or coffee for just $10.00, which does not include gratuity For those of you who wish, you will be able to make cash purchases at the bar.

Gun Control – A Relic of Racism SEP 14, 2011 01:59P.M. Gun Control – A Relic of Racism

NYC Slave Execution Today, the laws on the books in Hawaii bear few substantive differences between the laws of the 1840’s South, other than the omission of race. These are the laws championed by the Brady Campaign and our politicians claim they are necessary to preserve order in our state. Hogwash! While they are no longer motivated by race, the laws we have now are just as discriminatory as they were 175 years ago. Today, our gun control laws discriminate against the disabled, the elderly, women, and anyone else who isn’t capable of stopping a violent crime with their fists. Of course, stopping a violent crime with nothing but bare hands and feet is feasible only with unarmed assailants; even BJ Penn would be hardpressed to prevail, unarmed, against a sociopath with a gun. Don’t believe that Hawaii’s gun laws have their roots in racism?

Hawaii Concealed Carry Hawaii -–(Ammoland.com)- Racism is a word that is, unfortunately, tossed around all too freely in modern-day America.

Let’s compare: “That if any free negro, mulatto, or free person of color, shall wear or carry about his or her person, or keep in his or her house, any shot gun, musket, rifle, pistol, sword, dagger or bowie-knife, unless he or she shall have obtained a license therefor from the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of his or her county, within one year preceding the wearing, keeping or carrying therefor, he or she shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and may be indicted therefor.” –North Carolina statute, 1840, as quoted in Clayton Cramer’s paper The Racist Roots of Gun Control.

While it has become a catch-all villain in politics, responsible for all manner of Very Bad Things, there was a time when racism was a cherished institution in these United States. And although our nation has made great strides in confronting and vanquishing the evil of racism, some trappings remain, notably in the form of gun control. The origin of gun control laws in America had little, if anything, to do with controlling crime; the laws were intended to prevent slaves and freed blacks from defending themselves or rebelling against the state and local governments which persecuted them relentlessly.

“Any person, not authorized by law, who carries concealed upon the person’s self or within any vehicle used or occupied by the person or who is found armed with any dirk, dagger, blackjack, slug shot, billy, metal knuckles, pistol, or other deadly or dangerous weapon shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and may be immediately arrested without warrant by any

Throughout the history of our nation, gun control laws have been aimed primarily at blacks, and only in the last few decades has the focus of gun control shifted from targeting minorities to targeting all Americans.

We’ve come a long way, haven’t we? In no other area, save gun control, would otherwise sane people honestly try to claim that a law, previously used to subjugate an entire race, can be applied to the whole population for positive effect. It’s time to acknowledge the rights of law-abiding citizens, stand up for those rights, and reform Hawaii’s concealed carry laws.

ATK Awarded $30 Million in Orders for Non-Standard Ammunition

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks

SEP 14, 2011 01:29P.M. MALTA, Mont. --(Ammoland.com)- The Western Montana Fish and Game Association (WMFGA) celebrates its 100th year this year and urges all hunters to consider and celebrate Montana’s Hunting Heritage Week, beginning September 19th.

ATK Awarded $30 Million in Orders for Non-Standard Ammunition (NSA) ATK Has Multi-Year NSA Contract to Sustain Allied Security Forces.

A state law enacted in 1991 sets aside the third week of September as Montana’s official week to celebrate our cherished heritage of hunting. 1-1-226. Official observance of Montana’s hunting heritage. The week beginning the third Monday in September is an official week of observance in Montana to commemorate this state’s valued heritage of hunting game animals. During this week, all Montanans are urged to: (1) reflect on hunting as an expression of our culture and heritage; (2) acknowledge that it is our community of sportsmen, sportswomen, and hunters who have made the greatest contributions to the establishment of current game animal populations; and (3) celebrate this culture and heritage in all lawful ways.

ATK MINNEAPOLIS, Minn --(Ammoland.com)-ATK (NYSE: ATK) has received a $30 million order to supply non-standard (non-NATO) ammunition to the security forces of Afghanistan via the U.S. Army’s Product Director, Non-Standard Ammunition, Picatinny Arsenal, N.J.

The WMFGA was founded in 1911 to foster huntable populations of big game animals sufficient to allow hunting and harvest by Montana residents. This included imposing bag limits, hunting seasons and statelevel game management. Prior to those efforts, large game animal populations had been consumed by commercial meat hunters supplying railroad, timber and mining camps.

To date, ATK has supplied more than 200 million non-standard ammunition items under an existing multi-year contract; and has consistently performed ahead of delivery schedule. ATK performs technical oversight, quality assurance, and supply chain management for a variety of non-standard small, medium, and large caliber ammunition, aviation rockets, rocket propelled grenades and mortars.

In celebration of its centennial year, the WMFGA will hold a Centennial Ball on November 11th at the University Center, open to the public but with limited tickets available. The Centennial Ball will include dinner, and social and dance activities. Numerous door prizes will be available. More information about the WMFGA Centennial Ball is available at wmfg.org.

“ATK is focused on international expansion and continuing our outstanding performance on supply chain management. We are a leader in the non-standard ammunition marketplace and this latest award supports our core strategic priorities” said ATK Small Caliber Systems Vice President and General Manager Mark Hissong. ATK is an aerospace, defense, and commercial products company with operations in 22 states, Puerto Rico, and internationally, and revenues of approximately $4.8 billion. Rick Perry Stonewalling on Where He Stands on The Second Amendment

You see, two decades of history dealing with politicians at the local, state and federal levels tells me that silence on Second Amendment issues usually leads to trouble.

SEP 14, 2011 10:39A.M. Rick Perry Stonewalling on Where He Stands on The Second Amendment

It usually means a politician is hiding something — his true beliefs on the Second Amendment. What is Mr. Perry hiding? Why won’t he tell gun owners what he really believes? With Barack Obama in the White House leading the daily assault on our gun rights, grassroots gun rights activists like you cannot risk electing another slick politician willing to sell out our gun rights for … … a campaign contribution. Or a backroom deal. I’d like to tell you that Rick Perry is a champion of the Second Amendment, but I’m afraid I cannot do so unless he returns his NAGR Presidential Survey IMMEDIATELY! With one day left before the September 15th deadline for Governor Perry to return his National Association for Gun Rights’ Presidential Survey, he has so far thrown up a stone wall.

P.S. Rick Perry has so far refused to tell gun owners where he stands on important Second Amendment issues. In fact, he hasn’t returned the NAGR Presidential Survey.

Yeah, Governor Perry says he carries and that he has killed a coyote. But I carry every day as well. That doesn’t make me pro-gun.

Washington, DC - -(Ammoland.com)- That’s the message students are sending Al Gore, radical climate campaigners and assorted other bohemians, grant-seekers and profiteers seeking to cash in on the manmade global warming disaster craze.

Play Methane Madness On Gore’s Climate Propaganda Day

Al Gore is calling on folks to make September 14 a day of climate action, through a series of propaganda videos that he will be broadcasting worldwide. The Collegians For A Constructive Tomorrow call for a day of genuine “climate realism,” instead.

SEP 14, 2011 10:33A.M.

CFACT Collegians are responding with a bit of online levity.

Play Methane Madness On Gore’s Climate Propaganda Day Put A Cork In Global Warming Hot Air (And Flatulence). “Put a cork in it, Al!”

CFACT’s Methane Madness game trains online players to help “Pal Gore” control the climate by corking cows and watching them float away. Methane is more potent than CO2 as a greenhouse gas but less than 1% of atmospheric greenhouse gases come from cattle. Even so, radical climate campaigners call for shutting down our cattle and dairy industries, along with much of the rest our economy. They’d even like us to go vegan. However, climate science IS NOT SETTLED; computer models are biased, and observations don’t reflect the models; man’s impact on climate and atmosphere is dwarfed by nature’s; Climategate is just the tip of the corrupt science iceberg; more scientists find the courage to match their analysis every day and declare against the scare; offsets are a scam; citizens can now spot warming propaganda; alternative energy is inefficient; carbon profiteers rake in tax dollars but don’t affect the climate; economies in crisis can’t afford the waste; consensus is not science; there has never been a consensus; freedom and prosperity are the proven path to cleaner environments; our meat and dairy industries are home-based, thriving industries that feed multitudes and employ the nicest people you’ll ever meet; developed nations have enough to eat for the first time in history; et cetera, et cetera.

Play Methane Madness On Gore’s Climate Propaganda Day

WHOA! All those dreary, inconvenient facts! Gore won’t enjoy those. As Scarlett O’Hara said, “I can’t think about that right now. If I do, I’ll go crazy. I’ll think about that tomorrow.” For Al, tomorrow never comes.

If players succeed in corking all the cows, Methane Madness they can move on to further levels and put a cork in Gore & Company’s hot air.

The PRO was honored due to the product’s ability to fulfill tactical performance demands while remaining within the reach of law enforcement agencies facing restricted budgets.

Don’t worry. CFACT’s always been about free speech. Corks come out. Gore and his celebrity buddies can go right back to spewing their hot air. It will take cold facts for realism to triumph over alarmism on climate. CFACT wouldn’t have it any other way. “Jobs just aren’t waiting for us when we graduate, the way they used to be,” said Methane Madness player Josh Smith, a student at University of Wisconsin. “Al Gore preaches we should live with less – while he flies from mansion to mansion. I don’t even know how I’m going to pay my student loans. Put a cork in it, Al!” Methane Madness is available to play online (9-14) at www.MethaneMadness.com. If levity’s not your bag, you can always find plenty of solid global warming facts and analyses debunking the scare at www.CFACT.org and www.ClimateDepot.com. You’ll find them fascinating and entertaining.

Spread the Word on Collegiate Shooting Grants

National Shooting Sports Foundation Nice Grouping! NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- NSSF’s Collegiate Shooting Sports Initiative has allotted $300,000 to support new collegiate shooting teams and clubs and to strengthen existing programs.

About: Tom McHale describes himself as a conservative gun-totin’ bible-clingin’ literary assault dude who enjoys finding humor in just about anything. His web blog My Gun Culture is an irreverent, twisted look at gun news bordering on the ridiculous. It covers shootin’ stuff, loud noises, defending your own, the occasional mall ninja, and about 200 years of the American way. These are the (partially) true stories of My Gun Culture says Tom. Visit: www.mygunculture.com

NSSF member clubs have played an important role in the success of this program, in some cases by becoming a home range, in other cases by even staging intercollegiate competitions, and, in yet other cases, by simply spreading the word about the available funding and about helpful information on the website to students and nearby schools of higher learning.

NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- When it comes down to getting word to the outdoor media about important issues of concern to NSSF, there’s nothing like delivering it in person. That’s exactly what NSSF does as an important facet of its communications strategy, by sponsoring meals and shooting days at annual national, regional and state outdoor communicator association gatherings and addressing the assembled crowds at those events. This year the list of conferences visited or soon to be addressed includes those held by the Outdoor Writers Association of America, the Professional Outdoor Media Association, the Gun Bloggers Rendezvous, Southeastern Outdoor Press Association, the Northwest Outdoor Writers Association, the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers and both the Pennsylvania and New York Outdoor Writers Associations. It was back in April of this year when he and Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, the host of the number one rated weekend hit show “HUCKABEE” on the Fox News Channel honed in on Tom the Turkey while in Texas. Joining Huckabee and Tippin on the hunt was one of Huckabee’s sons. If everything’s bigger in Texas then that holds true when it comes to turkeys. All three outdoorsmen hit their mark and harvested a large wild bird.
