Information Sought in Michigan Moose Poaching Incident

The strong winds of a week ago brought in the first flights of northern ducks and increased the number of Canada geese moving into the state. Diving duck numbers are building to peaks on the Upper Mississippi River and large inland water bodies. The aerial counts for pools 7, 8, and 9 on the Upper Miss exceeded 80,000 canvasbacks early last week.

OCT 28, 2011 03:26P.M. Information Sought in Michigan Moose Poaching Incident in Marquette County

Pheasant hunters are reporting very good success on the stocked state hunting grounds. Woodcock numbers also increased in many locations this week, as their migration seems to be peaking. Trapping has begun and trappers are reporting increased numbers of raccoon and muskrat, with some potholes and marshes that were empty several years ago due to the drought showing muskrat houses again. With all the hunting and trapping activity, fishing has been slower, but some very good reports are coming in from anglers who are still fishing. Water temperatures have now dropped into the low 50s and upper 40s on northern lakes, and many lakes either have or are turning over. Musky anglers have continued to provide most of the fishing pressure, with nearly all having switched to live suckers now. Some very good crappie and bluegill action is also being reported on the backwaters of the Mississippi and Wisconsin rivers.

Michigan Department of Natural Resources Michigan --(Ammoland.com)- Conservation officers with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources are seeking information about a moose poaching incident that occurred sometime between the evening of Oct. 26 and the morning of Oct. 27 in southern Humboldt Township in Marquette County.

Water flows on Lake Michigan tributaries have been kept pretty constant with some timely rains, but levels have now been dropping. This has helped to extend the fish run through October. Salmon were still being reported in most tributaries this week, but numbers have been declining. Egg collection at spawning facilities is coming to a close, after a very successful year. DNR fish crews netting sturgeon on the Wisconsin River below the Prairie du Sac Dam this week pulled in a 46-and-a-half pound bighead carp, an invasive fish. This is the second bighead carp documented on the Lower Wisconsin River. Bighead carp are a concern because they eat plankton and can potentially decrease populations of native fish and mussels.

The DNR received a call from a township resident about a severed moose head placed on top of a rock with a sign leaning against it reading, “Wolf’s (sic) won’t get this one!!” Officers investigating the scene noted the blood had not yet coagulated and the antlers had been removed, placing the poaching of the animal within hours of discovery. The head was discovered in an area by the corner of County Road CF and East Road near Helen Lake. Officers were able to collect fingerprints from the cardboard sign and other evidence in the vicinity. The resident who alerted the DNR to the scene said the head was not there when she came home from work the evening of Oct. 26, but was there by 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27.

Common Loon migration has begun with birds moving into the bigger lakes in Southern Wisconsin and onto Lake Michigan to stage before they leave for the Gulf Coast for the winter. People can follow the loon migration online at the USGS Loon website (exit DNR).

Persons with information about this or any natural resources violation can call the DNR’s Report All Poaching (RAP) Line 24 hours a day tollfree at 800-292-7800 or can contact Lt. Tim Robson at the DNR’s Marquette Operations Service Center between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 906-228-6561. Information can be left anonymously, and often monetary rewards are offered for information that leads to the arrest of violators.

Tamaracks, the only conifer in Wisconsin to turn color and drop leaves, are now bright gold across northern and central Wisconsin, and a second burst of fall color has arrived in southern Wisconsin this week, with trees that were green last week turning red/rust color, and many yellow leaves still holding on.

Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- The National Jewish Democratic Council has gratuitously attacked JPFO in a blog posting. Here’s their attack: (Portions of the NJDC commentary are presented below and are followed by comments from JPFO’s Rabbinic Director.)

Tags: AAR, Armed American Radio, Mark Walters, Pro Gun Radio NJDC Denounces Depiction of Eric Holder in Nazi Uniform NJDC — October 12, 2011 – 11:17 am “The National Jewish Democratic Council denounces the photo shopped images of Attorney General Eric Holder as a Nazi and former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives head Ken Melson as Nuremberg defendant as posted by Mike Vanderboegh—a right wing blogger who has appeared recently on Fox News and was honored in September by Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO).” “Unfortunately, after allowing individuals such as Glenn Beck and Hank Williams, Jr. to use Holocaust rhetoric during their appearances on the air, it is unlikely that Fox

9

Today’s Tabbloid PERSONAL NEWS FOR news@ammoland.com

29 October 2011

News will do the right thing and repudiate Vanderboegh. Indeed, Fox News’ own chief executive compared NPR executives to the Nazis and lashed out at those criticizing the network for allowing such behavior to take place.

Eric Holder is covering up “Fast and Furious” and he will perhaps be tossed under the bus by his Superior. Vanderboegh likens Holder’s dilemma to Hitler’s orders to Nazi General von Paulus at Stalingrad to fight down to the last man. Vanderboegh compared Eric Holder’s hopeless situation to that of a general in a suicidal battle.

That leaves JPFO—a Jewish group that recently awarded Vanderboegh — to act responsibly and make it clear that his behavior is unacceptable.”

This is “Holocaust rhetoric”? Or perhaps the comparison has its merits? Holder’s final fate will likely have much to do with what he has on his boss. After all, a finger pointed at the Oval Office might keep Holder out of jail. Could it be that – in Vanderboegh’s words – Eric Holder has been sent on a suicide mission, having been “assigned by Barack Obama to defend the DOJ kessel of the Gunwalker Plot Cover-up to the last man”?

[The full article can be found here. http://tiny.cc/lky5w ] JPFO’s response: The NJDC has orchestrated a blatant distraction. The National Jewish Democratic Council, along with every other left wing anti-gun group, is desperately trying to distract Americans from the felonious scandal known as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives’ (BATFE’s) “Fast and Furious“.

Vanderboegh then compared ex-BATFE Acting Director Kenneth Melson (he finally got “reassigned”, we should remember) to a defendant in a war crimes tribunal. Might this comparison also be appropriate? Maybe the National Jewish Democratic Council should ask the Attorney General of Mexico — or the families of any of the victims murdered by drug runners armed by the BATFE in Fast and Furious – if they would like to see charges filed against Melson or Holder?

Note that the NJDC does not mention why JPFO gave the “David and Goliath Award” to Vanderboegh (and his associate David Codrea). The fact is that Vanderboegh and Codrea unearthed an international political and law enforcement scandal that makes Watergate look like school yard hijinks.

Could it be that NJDC simply doesn’t want America to pay attention to what happened in Fast and Furious? Or to what this grotesque operation says about the Obama administration? Someone very high up gave the order to launch “Fast and Furious”. If Holder knew about it, his order was criminal; if he didn’t, he was criminally negligent in his oversight of BATFE (or of his own DOJ, if the orders originated there). Instead of attacking Vanderboegh for his satire or attempting to besmirch JPFO for awarding Vanderboegh’s history making journalism, why doesn’t the NJDC go after the truth in “Fast and Furious”? We at JPFO emphatically stand by our award to Mike Vanderboegh and David Codrea, and furthermore we hope that both these freedom loving Americans will someday be considered for Pulitzer Prizes for their outstanding investigative work.

Eric Holder - Satire?

We are repulsed by the orchestrated distraction and moral corruption demonstrated by those who support the Obama Administration and its perverse ethics in this matter.

The NJDC insinuates that JPFO is somehow involved with the satirical images that it (NJDC) finds distasteful … or that we even presented an award for the satire. In fact, the award we presented – which predates the satire in question – was for exposing a scandal far darker than any satire anyone could possibly create with photoshop.

“Fast and Furious” functioned as an evidence planting scheme that would support the Obama administration’s lies regarding the supply of American guns to the Mexican drug cartels.

For the record, Vanderboegh described in historical detail the reason for his satirical images. Any Holocaust connection is a ludicrous stretch: http://sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot.com/2011/10/editors-notecorrection-and-apology.html

The lie seemed to be working as the BATFE knowingly planted thousands of guns in the hands of the murderous cartels. As could be expected, those guns surfaced in crime scenes that involved the murders of hundreds of innocents. Were it not for patriots like Mike Vanderboegh, David Codrea, and a small and courageous group of honest BATFE agents (who broke the story to Vanderboegh) this

Noting that Holder needed to “take responsibility” for implicating the United States as an accessory to violent crimes committed by the Mexican drug cartels, Walsh blasted the Attorney General for the role he played in the “subsequent cover-up” of the failed Fast and Furious operation.

As detailed by Gun Owners of America on many occasions, Operation Fast and Furious is the gun-running scheme where the Justice Department has approved – and in some cases, helped fund – the purchase and smuggling of firearms into Mexico. The apparent purpose of this gun running scandal was to use the increased violence south of the border as a pretext for more gun control in this country. Sadly, two U.S. federal agents — and hundreds of Mexican citizens — have died as a result of these illegal sales which the FBI approved under the direction of the Obama Administration.

Rep. Walsh takes Holder to task for “knowingly [forcing] licensed firearms dealers to sell guns to violent criminals” and for claiming that he was “not aware” this happening. As Walsh notes, Holder “received no less than seven memos” detailing the creation and progress of Fast and Furious. “The American people deserve to know the truth regarding Attorney General Eric Holder’s knowledge and role in the Fast and Furious operation,” Walsh said in a statement. “This program was deliberately designed to attack law-abiding American gun-owners and gun-dealers. Why else would an anti-gun Administration force licensed firearms dealers to sell guns to violent criminals?”

This amendment was requested by members of the public during previous hunt guideline discussions. The Department believes this is an effective and ethical method of take. Allowing the take of coyotes and mountain lions with artificial light. While this activity is currently allowed, it is not addressed in rule.

Arizona Game and Fish Department PHOENIX, AZ – -(Ammoland.com)- The Arizona Game and Fish Department proposes to amend R12-4-304 to implement recently passed legislation and increase hunter opportunity by expanding allowable methods for the take of wild mammals, birds, and reptiles.

Allowing an individual to use dogs as a lawful method to take predatory and furbearing animals, small game, and nongame mammals. This amendment was requested at a public commission meeting. The sport of using dogs to pursue and take wildlife has existed in North America since colonial days. This rule amendment clarifies that the take of predatory and furbearing animals, small game, and nongame mammals with dogs is a lawful activity.

Amendments are also proposed to make the rule less restrictive, increase clarity, and improve consistency with other subsections of the rule. Amendments include:

Referring to the Raymond Wildlife Area by providing the Game Management Units (GMU) instead of the Wildlife Area. This is proposed to reduce confusion regarding GMU boundaries.

Clarifying the use of crossbows; this is proposed to improve consistency and reduce confusion among hunters regarding the use of crossbows. Allowing crossbows and bows that are drawn and held with an assisting device for the take of specific wildlife; this is proposed to make the rule less restrictive, increase clarity, and improve consistency with other subsections of the rule.

The commission approved the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking at the Oct. 14, 2011 commission meeting and will review the final rulemaking at the Dec. 2, 2011 commission meeting. To view the Notice of Exempt Rulemaking, visit http://www.azgfd.gov/inside_azgfd/rules/rulemaking_updates.shtml.
