A word from  Luc & Tess Pettavino

Welcome, once again, to the 10th edition of Only Watch. A special one, for many reasons:

Because it is the 10th occurrence and of a series of wonderful auctions that have seen the best of watchmaking and enabled powerful research;

Because it comes after a challenging moment of questioning of our actions and ways that lead us to postpone the event in order to produce tangible pledges of our probity and accelerate evolutions in our organization and its ecosystem;

Because it comes at a turning point on the path to therapies for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) with an ongoing clinical trial that is the result of many years of hard work, on both the fundraising and the research fronts. Funds raised at this auction will be allocated to this flagship project and through grants to a variety of research projects in the field of DMD and genetic diseases with our historic guidelines: empowerment of brilliant minds to drive innovation, efficiency, agility and a search for real, life-changing impact for patients and families.

I am grateful for the renewed generosity and tireless efforts of watchmakers, collectors-donators, partners, media and supporters, as Only Watch has become an incredible platform dedicated to accelerating research and that has resulted in remarkable advances. I invite you to jump to pages 15 to 25 to read more about that.

I also feel privileged to be part of this community to celebrate the spectacular and perfect blend of horological excellence and philanthropy. Through Only Watch, for almost two decades, we have shown the world that it is possible to organise and rally around great causes when people’s hearts and minds are in the right place. This is a true joy in life.

I’ll let you immerse yourself in these heavenly one-of-a-kind timepieces that embody the pinnacle of watchmaking artistry. Only Watch promises once again to be an unforgettable moment, where time creates an emotion, and hope springs eternal.

Thank you, sincerely, to each and every one of you for being part of this journey.

This endeavor started as a family project: parents getting together, after a diagnosis that shook their world.

Words uttered from a doctor’s mouth, finally, usually after months - or years in the worst cases - of medical wandering and angst: “Duchenne muscular dystrophy”. Like thousands of families around the globe every day, they had to face a new reality, forcing them into resilience and a strength that they often did not suspect to have. Over the years, it saw many forces coming together that allowed it to become what it is today: a truly meaningful contribution to research on therapies for Duchenne and related genetic diseases and a beacon of hope for many through the ongoing clinical developments.

Being part of one of these families, I’ve been volunteering on Only Watch ever since I can remember. A year and a half ago, I joined the AMM/Only Project full-time, with the mission to accompany its transition from a rather small non-profit that ran with practically no fixed costs and extreme agility to a more mature structure, operated by a reliable team, that could outlast the founding families.

Between then and now, the challenging times that we went through back in October got us to accelerate the work on, amongst others, the long-term vision for the association, its future governance, transparency tools, the way it communicates with its stakeholders...

The organization is evolving, but one thing remains unchanged: this group’s determination to make a significant contribution on the road to therapies for Duchenne and its desire to alleviate suffering. Since its genesis in 2001, the AMM/Only Project has supported more than 50 researchers, connected 200+ of them through roundtables and collaborative research programs, co-founded 2 patient-focused bio/chemtechs and has financed the development of at least one promising drug candidate.

I hope the next few pages will give you more insight into the progress this project powers. In the name of researchers, patients, families and all who benefit from the Only Watch magic: thank you!

ONLYWATCH

Our mission Curing Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

It was Paul Pettavino and Philippe Ferreyrolles’s diagnosis with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in the year 2000 that prompted their parents to create the Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies (AMM) to accelerate research towards therapeutic solutions for this genetic disease that affects 1 in 3,500 boys and results in progressive weakening of all muscles, including the heart, the loss of the ability to walk as well as global autonomy and a much shorter life expectancy.

The goal of the non-profit is to fund research on therapies for DMD and related illnesses in order to alleviate suffering linked to these conditions. To raise funds for research, they initiated auctions around one-of-a-kind concepts in the arts and luxury sectors. In 2005, with the adhesion of 34 watchmakers, Luc Pettavino, Chairman of AMM, launched a new fundraising event that would become essential to the association’s actions: Only Watch, a distinctive auction focused on unique watches. With growing support from the watch industry, collectors, and partners, Only Watch expanded significantly, giving the AMM the means to fund the materialization of therapeutic leads towards the clinic and drug-testing trials. In 2023, AMM launched a new identity and dedicated website to present the scientific and medical endeavors powered by funds raised on Only Watch: onlyproject.org .

1 DESCRIPTION OF THE CONDITION

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disease that affects approximately 1 in 3,500 boys and is caused by a defect in the genetic sequence of dystrophin, an essential protein in the cellular structure of muscles that, as a result, is not produced. Dystrophin is the longest gene in humans, found on the X chromosome. The disease therefore almost only affects boys and men, while girls are very rarely affected (due to having a second X chromosome).

2 TRANSMISSION

Duchenne muscular dystrophy can be transmitted by a carrier parent (usually the mother, who is unaware that she is concerned by this genetic difference) or be linked to a spontaneous mutation in the reproductive cells.

3 DIAGNOSIS

The diagnosis is generally made around the age of 4 or 5, when a delay in certain motor functions is noted by the patient’s close entourage (frequent falls, difficulty in running, jumping or climbing stairs, fatigue and muscle pain).

4 CONSEQUENCES

It is a progressive disease in which muscle fibers - notably those of the heart - degenerate. The impairment of cardiac and respiratory functions is usually an inevitable critical point that leads to a much shorter life expectancy.

5 STATE OF RESEARCH

The arsenal of medical care (physiotherapy, drug treatments on specific symptoms, braces, standing wheelchairs...) has evolved to allow for better comfort and to maintain cardiac and respiratory functions at a satisfactory level for a longer period of time. But there is still no recognized therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy that allows the rebuild of the missing protein, dystrophin, to satisfactory levels allowing for a real change in the patients’ condition.

6 CLINICAL TRIAL

In recent years, a very significant part of the funds raised on Only Watch have been mobilized on the development of lead compounds and on setting up a clinical trial for a therapy developed by a biotech created with a consortium of parents and researchers and funded by the generosity of watchmakers and collectors. The drug aims to treat patients by skipping exon 51 - adressing the most frequent type of defect on the gene that lead to Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The therapy could be transposed and adapted for a number of other genetic diseases. The trial is expected to move to Phase 2 very shortly.

7 WHAT'S NEXT

The clinical trial - even more so if it succeeds - symbolizes the beginning of a new era and a whole new scale of action for our organization. The safety phase is to be followed by efficacy phases and the development of similar drugs for other types of deletion on the gene.

At this stage, these developments have been budgeted and require around €44 millions of donations from AMM. In parallel, because therapy and care will always be plural, Only Watch funds will continue to fund initiatives, young talent and brilliant committed minds of all generations through grants on different topics around DMD and related genetic illnesses(e.g. the evolution of the heart in Duchenne, the ability of modified blood cells to repair muscle, the development of new techniques to sample muscle without pain and scars, R&D on new types of mobility aides… and more).

15

Pillars of action

The non-profit's actions are based on 3 pillars which govern the distribution of the funds raised thanks to auctions and generous donors.

1 THERAPEUTICALLY AIMED R&D PROGRAMS IN BIO/ CHEMTECHS

Funding of patient–oriented bio/chemtechs on proprietary technologies (tricyclo-DNAs) and clinical developments. This includes financing the ongoing setting up of clinical trials on an exon-skipping drug candidate, SQY51.

Since the very beginning the AMM’s goal has been to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. After a decade of organizing roundtables, financing projects universities around the world, bolstering collaboration between teams of researchers, testing the tangibility of such and such therapeutic avenue one pathway was found to be particularly promising. A professor has created a new class of antisense oligonucleotides (synthetic RNA fragments that attach to the mRNA) that could bring a genetic « repair message » to all cells where it is required, efficiently, in a lasting yet non-toxic way. In 2012, a biotech was created, financed by Only Watch means around this chemistry (Synthena). In 2015, still thanks to Only Watch funds, a second biotech was launched on the basis of this chemistry, this time focused on developing therapeutic compounds and working towards clinical trials (SQY Therapeutics). The latter currently employs about 20 people, mainly biologists and chemists and has instigated a clinical trial to test a first drug candidate, SQY51, that could help many. This has been an important part of the AMM’s spending in the past years and will continue to be, at least for the next 3 to 4 years.

2 GRANTS FOR SCIENFITIC AND MEDICAL RESEARCH IN UNIVERSITIES AND INSTITUTIONS

Funding of research projects within universities, hospitals and public institutions — including doctoral grants and post-doctoral fellowships - on therapeutics avenues for DMD and the development of knowledge on similar genetic diseases and related mechanisms.

Over the years, the AMM has been attached to being an agile, potent and reliable supporter to researchers looking to investigate new pathways, launch new useful endeavors or to empower scientific and medical talent to conduct important projects. That is why – in parallel with financing the development of tricyclo-DNAs and the ongoing clinical trials related – it has never stopped financing ad hoc projects and giving out grants and fellowships for in-hospital or university research. To continue developing knowledge on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the evolution of the disease, its underlying mechanisms, indicators on the progression of the myopathy, complementary therapeutic avenues… Moreover, empowering the new generation of researchers – young women and men – is something the AMM’s leadership is very attached to.

A SAMPLE OF BENEFICIARIES

3 PATIENTS AND FAMILIES SUPPORT

Funding of material for local patients and families (wheelchairs, mobility aids, vehicle adaptation…).

The AMM is entirely focused on research ; but our team knows how a diagnosis brings so many challenges in a family’s day-to-day life, with a lot of material necessities, on a caseby-case basis. Thus, the association has punctually supported families living in its area in purchasing key material (electrical verticalizing wheelchair, adapting a vehicule to transporting a wheelchair, repairs, home adaptations…), but as it is not the heart of its mission (bigger national organizations in most countries being better equipped to handle this type of activity), this social financing represents <1% of funds distributed.

16

Funds dedicated to research and patients support 2001-2023

• The AMM started by funding roundtables that got researchers from all over the world together, in Monaco, to share knowledge and create synergies.

• Rapidly, the non-profit started to give out grants for studies, PhDs, postdocs, and different types of fundamental and applied research projects.

• 2012: creation of first biotech Synthena - to allow researchers to develop a promising biotechnology: a new generation of antisense oligonucleotides called “tricyclo-DNA”

• 2015: creation of SQY Therapeutics. Today, a clinical trial on a first drug candidate aiming to skip exon 51 and that could change the lives of many has been launched.

• The association continues to support other research projects in complementary fields.

SQY and Synthena waived or depreciated debt.

Note : until 2023, cash advances made to SQY Therapeutics and Synthena were booked as debt, until waived. In 2022 all debts were depreciated in AMM’s accounts so as to give a more accurate vision of its financial situation (these funds being considered as donations). From 2023 onwards all advances are booked as donations.

Portraits  of researchers supported by the Only Project

LUIS GARCIA

Director of Research at CNRS, Director of the ENDICAP laboratory - UMR 1179 Inserm-University of Versailles -St-Quentin, UFR santé Simone Veil, Special scientific advisor for SQY Therapeutics.

“I’ve had one fixed goal for more than 25 years: find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. At the time of the last Only Watch we were filing for a clinical trial authorization from the sanitary authorities for a molecule we’ve developed. Now we have that authorization, and we have started the safety phase. But beware, it’s a sprint type of effort with the duration of a marathon: the trial is starting now but it’s the result of years of work and there are many more steps and developments to come, we must stay focused. Without Only Watch we would not be where we are today, at a clinical stage, we would still be people with ideas. Thanks to the means it gives us, not only have we shown it’s feasible – we went from ground 0 to clinical stage – but it allows us to have the ambition to develop our technology for other diseases. A big thank you to the Only Watch community.”

HELGE AMTHOR

Professor of pediatrics specialized in muscle diseases in childhood, University Paris-Saclay UVSQ, UFR Simone Veil – Santé, Research Unit U1179, Raymond Poincaré University Hospital.

“I split my time between consultations at the hospital and research in the laboratory. On the clinical side, I see patients suffering from neuromuscular disorders, amongst whom many with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Currently I’m also responsible for patients who take part in the clinical trial testing the SQY51 molecule – a clinical trial of which the promoter, SQY Therapeutics, is run by parents of Duchenne patients, and funded by charity funds, from Only Watch.

On the research side, I work with collaborators, some of whom are Master’s or PhD students, on projects aiming to gain a better understanding of the underlying mechanism of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, as well as to develop novel therapeutic avenues. This part of my work has also been significantly supported by the Foundation for years. Being able to pursue both (clinical work and research) has always allowed me to go further in both fields.”

ANGELY MENDOZA CARDOZO

Clinical Chief in the Pediatric Neurology Department at Raymond Poincaré University Hospital.

Working in the AVANCE 1 clinical trial, which is centered on a new therapy for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy by skipping exon 51 of the dystrophin gene.

“I have the opportunity to dedicate myself to research in a remarkable scientific field with a deep sense of humanity that characterizes the care of young disabled patients and the support of their families. It’s a job that allows me to develop as a human being and as a neuropediatrician.

I thank the AMM for its support and wish to continue working on this path of hope to improve the life quality of our patients and what we wish for them all, with all our efforts and all our hearts, their healing.”

20

KARIM WAHBI

MD, PhD, Professor of cardiology at Paris Cité University, head of the reference center for neuromuscular cardiomyopathies in Cochin Hospital, Paris.

“My key areas of research are the prevention and treatment of heart failure and sudden death, which are the most frequent manifestations of cardiomyopathies in this condition, along with the study of their underlying molecular mechanisms. I had the opportunity to set up the largest database worldwide dedicated to cardiac disease in Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This project, financed with Only Watch funds, contributed to improving the standard of patient care. I am also involved in various translational research programs involving specialists in both clinical and fundamental research, which are essential to develop innovative treatments to cure this complex genetic disease.”

SADIA BELKACEM

Member of Pr. Wahbi’s team dedicated to the advancement of knowledge on cardiac damage in Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

“As a project leader, I coordinate projects led by Prof. Karim Wahbi aimed at improving the cardiac care of DMD patients. These projects are based on the careful collection of quality clinical and genetic data from as many patients as possible in dedicated databases, the analysis of which allows to improve patient care and to set up trials evaluating new therapies.”

CHRISTOPHE MARCELLE

Professor, Faculty of Biosciences, Deputy Director, MeLis (CNRS UMR 5284 / INSERM U1314), NeuroMyoGene Institute (INMG), University Claude Bernard Lyon 1.

“As a Professor, I’m extremely keen on supporting the emergence of a next generation of researchers – women and men – and to help them to create bonds with each other, communities, so as to share knowledge, experience and create synergies. Funding granted by the association has allowed me to offer such perspectives to students.

As a researcher myself and a thesis director, it has also allowed me to continue to explore subjects that I would have had to give up otherwise.”

CLEMENCE ALIBERT

PhD student

University Claude Bernard Lyon 1.

Working under Pr. Marcelle’s guidance on the following thesis project Muscle fusion as a delivery mechanism to repair ailing muscles from heritable muscle diseases.

“I am developing a strategy to deliver dystrophic cells the therapeutic tools to heal themselves from Duchenne, spending my time in laboratories to develop new technological angles.”

ROBERT M. KOTIN

PhD, Adjunct Professor, University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, Worcester, USA and Chief Science Advisor at Carbon Biosciences.

“The AMM's funding was critical for supporting our research leading to one of the widely used production platforms for recombinant adeno-associated virus. The NIH has outlicensed our technology and materials to several companies including uniQure and BioMarin and both have FDA or EMA approve gene therapies based on our platform. (…) It’s unlikely that this would have occurred without the foundation’s support. I’ll always be grateful to the foundation for the support, confidence, and trust.”

MARISA JACONI

PhD, Adjunct Professor, University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, Worcester, USA and Chief Science Advisor at Carbon Biosciences.

Pr. Jaconi‘s ongoing work on “Immortal immunoprivileged myogenic stem cells for gene therapy of muscular dystrophy” spans over two years (2022-2023) and is financed by our charity’s “Paul Pettavino fellowship” granted through the Fondation Suisse pour la Recherche sur les Maladies Musculaires (FSRMM). The goal of her research is to overcome known obstacles to the prospect of effective stem cell therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients.

Focus  on grantees

1 SQY THERAPEUTICS AND THE AVANCE 1

CLINICAL TRIAL

A Solution Underway

Currently, close to 90% of AMM/Only Project’s funds go to SQY Therapeutics medical research each year, amounting to around €40M over the last decade and €8,4M in 2023 alone. We spoke with members of the team to understand what the important sum unlocks in their research.

We spoke to Dr. Marine Geoffroy, SQY Therapeutics’ manager of preclinical projects, who has studied biology, life sciences and health, before pursuing a 4-year doctoral thesis, and working in labs that specialize in stem cell and genetic diseases.

Dr. Geoffroy joined SQY Therapeutics in 2023 to support its first clinical trial (AVANCE 1 using a novel antisense oligonucleottide SQY51) for treatment of mutations which causes DMD in approximately 13% of patients. In parallel, she develops similar antisense oligonucleotide molecules to treat other patterns of mutation in the DMD gene, focusing on data collection and formulation, directing research in the lab and reporting results.

Instrumental in the process is biologist Dr. Simon Guiraud. With a PhD in gene therapy and human genetics, his personal experience with Duchenne has been a motivation since his childhood. His thesis in a genetics-specialized laboratory, along with his post-doctoral work on Duchenne at Oxford finally led him to continue researching CRISPR genetic therapy at SQY Therapeutics. Dr. Guiraud spends his time in the labs, to find the perfect pharmaco-dynamic and pharmaco-cynetic model for Duchenne, “as fast as possible”

He stresses that SQY Therapeutics innovative management style, its relation with the AMM/Only Project and the dedication to patients is at the roots of the chemtech’s high capacity. “In my academic work, I could spend more time writing grant applications than on my research. But in the current SQY Therapeutics structure, we have the full intellectual freedom that is so intrinsic to innovation. There is a “family spirit” and a close connection with our patients, which drives us to find them a real solution”.

The biologists, guided by Dr. Geoffroy, first make an order to SQY’s chemists to synthesize around 100 larger sized oligonucleotide molecules.

That’s where Cyriaque Beley and Thomas Tensorer come in. Mr. Beley, a molecular biologist, began working two decades ago on the first exon-skipping system, using viral vectors and finally on the oligonucleotide synthesis methods they use now. Joining the chemistry team at SQY Therapeutics, he brought his 25 years of experience working on Duchenne and other myopathies. Mr. Tensorer, with a master’s degree in organic chemistry, has spent his entire career on Duchenne, in the first startup the AMM created for oligonucleotide research, Synthena, and at SQY Therapeutics for the past 4 years.

Together, they synthesize the oligonucleotide molecules selected by biologists, making the specific DNA sequences they need. Using computers they ensure that the molecule is examinable.

A back and forth between chemists and biologists begins. Dr. Geoffroy and her biologist team-mates test the oligonucleotides, and order more of the most effective ones, for it to be refined further by the chemists at each stage, until it can be used in trial.

22
“FIRST-IN-HUMAN”

Dr. Geoffroy follows the traditional 2D experimental process, testing 15-20 molecules on blood samples, retaining those that provide the best information and then studying them for toxicity. She tests up to 96 oligonucleotides a week, which allows the lab to be vastly more productive and accelerate its research on functional treatments.

Dr. Guiraud, on the other hand, works on a newer method for treatment testing : 3D cultures. He develops those “minimuscles” by incorporating patient cells in a protein mixture, allowing them to mature into a 1cm structure, capable of contraction. Dr. Guiraud is then able to test treatment directly onto the 3D mini-muscles, “It's like a human ex-vivo bisposy: we can collect much more data to strengthen Dr. Geoffroy’s research, much faster and at lower costs than other available methods.”

He thus tests antisense oligonucleotides developed by Dr. Geoffroy, evaluating treatments on 24 to 48 samples each week, and comparing dosage frequency of administration, specifications of the treatments, or conditions of restoration.

The biologists determine which of the oligonucleotides work the best, by seeing whether or not the Duchenne patient cells or mini-muscles have internalized treatment and started producing dystrophin. “3D technology is costly, and rare - it could never be used in public or doctoral institutions.” says Dr. Guiraud.

With every round of testing, the chemists make shortened and more precise versions of those molecules, for a finer screening by the biologists in the lab. This goes on until a promising oligonucleotide is developed, at which time the chemists synthesize the molecule for in-vivo use, at a much larger scale, for which SQY Therapeutics will subcontract the production.

Dr. Christophe Blaszykowski, as Head of Chemistry at SQY Therapeutics, coordinates those final stages of the pre-clinical preparation. After a thesis in organic chemistry, and following his post-doctorate in Toronto, Canada, he worked there for 15 years. Having done research in chemistry his whole career, he finally applied it when he returned to France and joined SQY Therapeutics in 2020, where he thrives, benefiting from full “trust and support”.

He coordinates the synthesis of oligonucleotides in SQY Therapeutics’ lab, and their large-scale production for final testing in subcontracted labs. He manages procurement, as well as controls for appropriate procedure and quality in the transformation of building block molecules into the pharmaceutical ingredient - a powder that is next formulated into an injectable solution by a subcontractor. To ensure a manufacturable and sterile product, Dr. Blaszykowski follows all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), according to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) requirements.

The probability that a drug that enters clinical trial will eventually be approved is estimated at around 10%. Dr. Blaszykowski’s work is therefore crucial for the exact reproduction of the molecules developed by SQY Therapeutics’ researchers, and the creation of the medicine. He explains that the AMM/Only Project’s funding is a relief for

SQY Therapeutics’ researchers : “Results are most important and central, and as the budget-related constraints are flexible to unforseen progress and new ideas, we can work and develop with confidence.”

15 years of research, following the process outlined above, have paid off : SQY Therapeutics is currently performing its first clinical trial for Duchenne, at the Garches hospital (Paris region), under the supervision of neuromuscular expert and professor in pediatrics Pr. Helge Amthor

Pr. Amthor, as a researcher and medical expert, combines his science to develop a top quality medicinal treatment for DMD patients.

4 years ago, teams under the direction of Pr. Amthor started working on the clinical trial’s protocol. With the approval of the Agence nationale de sécurité du médicament et des produits de santé (ANSM) and an ethics committee in November 2022, Pr. Amthor organized the collaboration of all stakeholders involved, from the hospital staff, to the boys, their families, the researchers and SQY Therapeutics.

Today, AVANCE 1 is a 'First in Human' clinical trial with an antisense oligonucleotide from the tricyclo-DNA family class (SQY51), designed to hybridize with exon 51 of the dystrophin pre-messenger RNA. Almost half of the Garches hospital has made itself available. The trial thus began in 2023, for 12 DMD boys, pediatrics and adults at various stages of their disease’s evolution.

The teams are, more than ever, concentrating their entire selves in this endeavor, for which they are operating with outstanding efficiency. Clinical trials, over their multiple phases, require between €18 and €74M, “First-in-Human” trials take €27M per year over 6 to 12 years, and SQY Therapeutics has been able to develop AVANCE 1, from scratch to its first phases, for over €10M.

It was very important for the trial not to exclude any patient group-type, to be elaborated with the boy's needs and security as priority over everything else. The patients have started receiving intravenous dose escalations of SQY51 as part of the first 13-week phase, and will begin a 32-week second phase of study in the second quarter of 2024.

The profiles presented above are instrumental to SQY Therapeutics' work and hopefully successful endeavors. They are part of a larger team of committed and expert scientists and professionals that work together to make therapies a reality.

2 THE INSTITUT COCHIN, PR. KARIM WAHBI AND A LARGE-SCALE NATURAL HISTORY STUDY ON DUCHENNE

The gene malformation was discovered in 1986, yet thirty-five years after the discovery of Duchenne, there is no medical cure or satisfactory treatment for muscular dystrophy. The AMM contributes around 10% of its funds in the past years to projects within universities, hospitals and public institutions to continue developing knowledge on DMD, the evolution of the disease, its underlying mechanisms, and complementary therapeutic avenues.

80% of Duchenne patients develop cardiac problems and 40% of them pass on due to heart complications. We spoke to Pr. Karim Wahbi, one of the many experts collaborating with SQY Therapeutics’ and invested in AVANCE1. Pr. Wahbi is a cardiologist specializing in cardiomyopathies associated with muscular diseases. He works at one of the largest “Reference Centers” in France, the Institut Cochin, specialized in rare diseases, and treats the 700 muscular disease patients in Ilede-France, 150 of which are Duchenne patients. “We develop strong relationships with the patients. It is very intense, working on rare and heavy diseases like Duchenne”.

As a professor and researcher half of his time is dedicated to teaching, on cardiology and muscular diseases. His work on the disease spans over many years now, and Pr. Wahbi is heavily invested in providing solutions and relief to his patients. Working with Duchenne patients of all ages, “I’ve seen many of them grow up and evolve, from young children coming with their parents, into teenage and adulthood”.

Pr. Wahbi works with Pr. Amthor and Dr. Garcia on the AVANCE 1 clinical trial, on all cardiological questions that arise during the test on skipping exon51. He came on the project early on, and intervenes punctually to structure cardiac trials, advise on and direct the choice of actions, the cardiological protocol and its evaluation.

The other half of his time, Pr. Wahbi works on his research, supported by a €320,140 grant by the AMM, thanks to which the professor notably considerably expanded his team, to work on the creation of the largest database on cardiac information in Duchenne. Being a rare disease, data and information is lacking on DMD, and a full and comprehensive registry is instrumental to make any progress.

Pr. Wahbi’s team records Ile-de-France patients’ information when they pass physical exams, genetic tests, and monitors the complications they often face. This work, on collecting and structuring information, allows them to make specific analyses and answer questions about Duchenne, to find solutions to the life-threatening disease. “Our methods are giving us tangible results. We are trusting and hopeful for the future.“

At the moment, Pr. Wahbi shares his project with external scientists, and his team produces the requested analyses for the benefit of those other DMD researchers. This vital project is actually taking a new scale, as Pr. Wahbi collaborates with other reference centers in France and is developing an

international project to collaborate with Duchenne experts across the world, and spread this important platform beyond Cochin.

Both in his data collection endeavor and advisory input in AVANCE 1, Karim explains the AMM/Only Project’s support is crucial. “It takes millions to develop a drug. The teams are able to collect concrete results, and would never have gotten here without Only Watch.”

3 FUNDING RESEARCH BY YOUNG MINDS TO RETHINK DUCHENNE THERAPY : THREE PROJECTS UNDER THE PAUL PETTAVINO GRANT

• Clemence Alibert’s innovative solution for muscle repair

In March 2022, the AMM/Only Project granted PhD candidate Clemence Alibert €200,000 for 3 years at the NeuroMyoGene Institute at the Lyon1 University Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, to conduct research on muscle repair in hereditary muscular degenerative diseases, namely DMD.

Her thesis, based on muscular biology and the hematopoietic system, is two-fold : Ms. Alibert is genetically modifying hematopoietic stem cells with protein that will allow blood cells to fuse with muscle cells, where the second genetic modification will allow blood cells to help regenerate muscular cells and ignore the defect on the dystrophin gene using exon skipping. “I am developing a strategy to deliver dystrophic cells the therapeutic tools to heal themselves from duchenne, spending my time in laboratories to develop new technological angles.”

Ms. Alibert also received €2,000 to attend the 2023 Stem Cell summer school, along with professors, researchers, and fellow post-graduate students, there to exchange and attend conferences on Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine by leading experts in the academic community. “It was particularly interesting to collect feedback from and exchange with other stem cell experts and researchers, working in different medical realms. One’s problem could solve another’s, we all learned a lot from each other.”

• Lucie Royer’s leaps for a full understanding of Duchenne, at its roots

Three decades after the Duchenne gene malformation was identified, the therapeutic solutions that were created allow patients to live slightly longer, uncomfortably. One of the main roots of this problem is Duchenne’s perceived rarity, which mobilizes less interest by institutions. “It is often difficult for thesis candidates to obtain funding from their doctoral schools. These tend to limit their grants and fellowships to the wider fields of research, so charity organizations are instrumental in allowing researchers to explore newer and specific medical issues, through applied testing.”

In fact, the AMM/Only Project’s strength and singularity rests in its willingness to engage with innovative and groundbreaking projects. Pr. Helge Amthor, alongside AVANCE1, has been focusing on understanding the process of DMD and the way it affects the muscle.

24

DMD finds its roots in the malformation of the X chromosome, which inhibits the production of dystrophin. Women have two X chromosomes, thus if one carries the DMD gene, close to half of their muscular cells should be affected, and dystrophin should be underproduced accordingly. However, women generally produce much more dystrophin than scientists would anticipate, and very rarely develop full-scale DMD.

The Université de Versailles Saint Quentin’s (UVSQ) Training and Research Unit has received a 2-year €100,000 grant in 2023, for the recruitment of molecular biology engineer Lucie Royer, under Pr. Amthor’s direction. She explains that, being deaf herself, she is very invested with disability research “I am here for the patients, to help save them and advance medical research”.

Pr. Amthor explains the groundbreaking relevance of Lucie’s research is “to find a therapeutic equivalent to the "self-healing" of this degenerative disease in women, in order to regenerate dystrophin in men’s muscles.” .

Mme. Royer thus uses various cellular and molecular biology techniques to study DMD muscle fiber, with multiple equipment methods to interpret and analyze results and understand the pathological mechanism of Duchenne for symptomatic women.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I've been fascinated by the meaning of research and I wanted to work in the field of research and human health” she explains, and her work could lead to treatment reproducing how their healthy cells can save whole muscles for DMD boys, and be exported to other degenerative illnesses in patients. She says that this project was unlocked by the AMM/OnlyProject, “It is already exciting and enriching. The team is very committed, conscious and determined to find cures that don't exist yet. I feel highly valued and useful, knowing that my applied research advances progress on this disease.”

• Jeanny Bikouta’s all-encompassing focus on Duchenne patients, their treatment, and quality of life

The AMM also focuses on work to improve the living conditions and extend the life expectancy of current DMD patients. DMD patients are particularly vulnerable to anxiety, stress and difficult social interactions. Treatments for DMD currently rely heavily on glucocorticoids, steroid hormones that improve protein metabolism but also impair a hypothalamic hormone in recipient patients. The response of the hypothalamic system to glucocorticoids has been little studied, despite the significant consequences it can have on DMD patients.

Jeanny Bikouta, under the supervision of Sabine de la Porte and Jose-Manuel Cancela at the the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (UVSQ) received €115,000 in 2023 for a 3-year doctoral grant studying this interaction, the neural and behavioral impact it has, and its importance in many other bodily functions. Healthy oxytocin production has immensely beneficial impacts on cardiology and muscular regeneration - the two central complications of DMD.

Thanks to the AMM/Only Project, Ms. Bikouta’s PhD can fall within the larger spectrum of rare disease research. “Post-graduate institutions only take charge of 25% of thesis candidates, while the remaining 75% find their funding with parents and families’ associations like the AMM/Only Project”. Her fundamental project now benefits from the network of experts built and nurtured by the AMM/ Only Project, and she in turn will participate in building continuous knowledge on the disease, which in this case, will be of tremendous interest to all other diseases that use glucocorticoids for protein metabolism. “This is important because often our research on those illnesses can open up findings on more common and frequent diseases”.

CONCLUDING WORDS

Over the years, the AMM/Only Project’s work has encompassed scientific roundtables, colloques, has supported more than 50 researchers and enabled cross-sector, Europewide collaboration on Duchenne, which culminates with AVANCE1.

We provided you with insight into meaningful and important projects funded by the charity organization, which constitute a small part of its 23 years of existence but accurately represent its values, practices and end-goals.

Other projects notably include research conducted at the Université de Genève under Pr. Maud Frieden’s direction, on human stem cell activation mechanisms in DMD, to unlock enhanced therapeutics for related physiopathologies like the Guillain-Barré Syndrome, or the funding of essential lifeequipment for patients.

The AMM/Only Project will continue to support its current grantees for the time it is necessary and useful, and welcomes other projects by empowering understandings of the mechanisms of muscle repair and its treatment, in physiological and pathological situations, within and beyond DMD.

ArtyA

This one-of-a-kind, world-premiere timepiece not only introduces a brand-new architectural Manufacture movement but also presents a cutting-edge new case material that is so difficult to machine that it has never been used in watchmaking before.

The independent watchmaking brand ArtyA has developed a new and unique case in Moissanite. On discovering this dazzling and lustrous stone – which originates from the heart of a meteorite crater. It is the second hardest material on earth after diamond with a hardness on the Mohs scale of 9.5, making this new watch case the most resistant ever used on the horological stage. The meticulous faceting gives the impression that the movement is floating in the heart of a perfectly cut gemstone. Each movement of the wrist reveals a different symphony of colors that are enchanting to behold.

The manufacture caliber Purity is the fruit of three years of work in a close, creative, and dynamic collaboration between ArtyA and Telos with the desire to offer a caliber that is uncompromising, reliable, and generous at the same time. Its bridges are designed to offer the finest visual harmony, with circular shapes and a layering pattern that makes the work behind this movement shine through. Like all ArtyA’s high complications, this new caliber has benefited from the best treatments and finishes. All the bridges are sandblasted with cast iron and then hand-beveled, a time-consuming operation that is magnificently highlighted in this skeletonized movement.

Baltic

Baltic participates to the 10th Edition of Only Watch with the Premier Quantième Perpétuel developed in collaboration with the experienced watchmakers of Maclef company. The challenge was to create our own highly legible Perpetual Calendar watch with a perfect balance. The outcome is a 37mm slim timepiece blending steel and titanium, featuring three sub-registers and a prominent pointer date. At the heart, a 100% newly developed perpetual calendar run by the ultra-thin Vaucher 5401 micro-rotor movement.

For its second participation to Only Watch, Baltic is delighted to introduce its new fine watchmaking line, named Baltic Experiments with this unique Premier Quantième Perpétuel.

For two years, we pushed our own boundaries by achieving something we never thought possible: developing our own Perpetual Calendar. This project became possible thanks to the collaboration with the talented watchmakers of Maclef, founded by Emmanuel Bouchet. We aimed to establish a timeless and easily readable way of presenting all the essential elements of a Perpetual Calendar. The meticulously balanced dial incorporates three distinct subregisters to indicate the days, month, leap year, and a moon-phase in silicium material, with a continuous second hand at 6 o’clock. The prominent pointer date harmoniously complements the overall aesthetic, positioned towards the outer edge of the watch.

Starting from a blank page, this modular perpetual calendar was 100% reinterpreted and run by the ultra-thin Vaucher 5401 micro-rotor movement. The idea was to make the passage of days to the end of the month as quick as possible. Therefore, moving the date functions like a sonnerie system. The date will change from the 28th, 29th, 30th to the 1st of the following month in around 1 to 4 seconds.

Blancpain

For the 10th Edition of Only Watch,, as Blancpain is celebrating the 70th Anniversary of its iconic Fifty Fathoms which publicly debuted in 1953, it is fitting that it has created a special edition, with a unique blue themed colour motif, of the 70th Anniversary Act 1 timepiece launched earlier this year.

Launched in 1953, the Fifty Fathoms is the first true diver's watch. Created by a diver and chosen by pioneers, it played a vital role in the development of scuba diving. It is the catalyst for Blancpain’s commitment to ocean conservation.

This special edition of the Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 1, has been inspired by the 1953 original Fifty Fathoms as well as two other landmark editions: the 2003 50th Anniversary Fifty and the 2007 Fifty Fathoms, which marked the birth of the new generations of this icon. The DNA of all three shines through this unique edition with its blue unidirectional bezel, bombé in form, bringing exceptional visual depth, and constructed from sapphire with its extraordinary resistance to scratches; its graduated blue dial, darker on the outer perimeter with luminous indexes, Arabics at 3, 6, 9, and 12 and stick markers at the five minute marks, each fashioned from multiple layers of Super-LumiNova to bestow extra depth; its in-house calibre 1315 movement fitted with three mainspring barrels, giving the timepiece a 5-day constant power reserve, and a free sprung balance fitted with a silicon hairspring, for greater precision and robustness. The clear caseback offers a view of haut de gamme finishing of the movement with its extra-large jewels and the 18K gold winding rotor, coated with a NAC platinum-based alloy and inscribed with the Only Watch legend. The stainless steel case features the same 42.3mm dimensions recently launched on the Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 1.

Fitted to the watch is a blue NATO-style strap constructed with nylon reclaimed and recycled from fishing nets removed from the sea as part of ocean environmental cleanup efforts.

Exquisitely finished, the Orbis Mundi, “the world” in Latin, stands out for its ease of use world timer (that can be set only using the crown) and emblematic Fleurier case, a true symbol of two centuries of watchmaking excellence. The ergonomic 42mm 18K red gold case provides optimal comfort thanks to its slim profile and its iconic crown and Bovet bow at 12 o’clock.

The dial of the Orbis Mundi is guilloché, covered with seven layers of vibrant magenta lacquer. On the world time dial, Monaco, where Only Watch is based, replaces the Geneva time zone, and this is in magenta as well, helping it to stand out as a beacon to the world. The X on the hour dial is in the same hue as well, a nod to the 10th edition of Only Watch. The sapphire case back allows us to admire the manufactured hand-winding movement. The House of Bovet is one of the few completely integrated manufactures in the watchmaking industry. Bovet produces more than 95% of the components that go into its timepieces. ID Orbis Mundi Ref. Breguet

Instant-jump time-zone watch with mechanical memory.

An exclusive mechanical complication with an instant-jump time-zone display. This technical feat is accomplished via the pusher and the crown. Having selected the first city’s time and date, the owner of the watch needs only to set the second city. The watch mechanism then calculates the time and date by means of a clever system of cams, hammers and an integrated differential. At that point, simply pressing the pusher is enough to travel from one end of the planet to the other, all without disturbing the accurate running of the watch.

Another key feature of the Hora Mundi is the dial: this one offers a fascinating interpretation of the world on the wrist by a play on materials and superimposed plates which gives depth to the dial. The first gold base is composed by hand-guilloché waves. An additional sapphire plate displays the luminescent gold hour-markers along with the engraved and varnished navy blue continents. For this special edition, and as a reminder that the planet never sleeps, multiple bright rose gold dots stand out on Earth. Finally, an external flange holds the various elements present on the dial.

Bulgari

This unique Octo Finissimo watch in marble is a true marvel of craftsmanship: the 40mm DLC treated titanium case and bracelet are covered with a Verde di Alpi marble. At 6 o'clock, the marble dial reveals the 1.95mm thin manual tourbillon in-house caliber BVL 268.

The Octo Finissimo Tourbillon is a legend: It is the 1st world record of a series of 9, established since 2014 with its 1.95mm thin movement. Bvlgari has reached a milestone in the development of ultra-thin watches since. Produced as a one-off and with no equivalent in the watchmaking world, Bulgari intends to etch the 10th Edition of Only Watch in stone for all time. The green marble used for this spectacular watch, named Verde di Alpi, comes from the Aosta Valley, the natural passage linking Switzerland and Italy, though the Alps. Its dominant colour in nature, evoking abundance, growth and energy, is offset with white veins, recalling the serpentines of alpine forests and snowy peaks. The inspiration behind the piece came from ancient times when marble was featured in Roman architecture by most skillful artists of all time. Marble expressed Rome’s history and glory and was adopted in 1934 when the Bulgari store was enlarged and refurbished by the renowned Italian architect Florestano Di Fausto: he decided to unify the two separate buildings at ground floor with travertine marble and designed four large openings for display windows and a central doorway, all framed by green African marble cornices. Marble was also present inside the store in the floors decorated with the iconic eight-pointed star inlay, as well as in the columns and tables.

Czapek Genève

Czapek’s unique, open-worked reinterpretation of a double escapement combination initially created in 1830 and very rare in wristwatches. Two independent escapements beat at their own pace, with any rate variations balanced by a differential, all beautifully featured on the dial side.

The idea for the watch was born in 2018 as an evolution of Czapek’s renowned initial models, Quai des Bergues and Place Vendôme. The beauty of the concept was to respect the position of the escapements at 4.30 and 7.30 and have them connect to the differential at 12 o'clock. Xavier (Czapek CEO) couldn’t find a watchmaking partner able to respect this architecture, with the differential at 12 o'clock as a central element of the concept.

So the idea was left aside until…. a story of family and friendship brought it back to life. Paul, one of Xavier’s children, was in the same school class in Neuchâtel as the daughter of Bernhard Lederer and a mutual friend introduced the two fathers. This encounter led to an intense exchange of ideas and advices: while Xavier was focused on product and branding, Bernhard was on pure watchmaking. They began talking about making a watch together, resolved the problem of the dual escapement running around the center, and both a friendship and a watch -‘Complicité’ - were born. The Only Watch piece was designed even before Czapek had finalised the designs for the production models of the newest addition to its Place Vendôme collection. This one-of-a-kind piece is cased in steel (rather than the precious metals of the production models) and the dial is encircled by a ‘champlevé‘ enamel ring in the colours of the 10th Edition of Only Watch.

Furlan Marri

An ultra-simplified secular perpetual calendar signed Furlan Marri x Dominique Renaud x Julien Tixier. Hours, minutes, date, day of the week, month, leap year indication on the central hand. Secular year indication (Maltese cross). Rhodium-plated silver case and bracelet.

For its first participation to Only Watch, the young independent watch brand Furlan Marri has teamed up with renowned watchmakers Dominique Renaud and Julien Tixier to create an ultra simplified, modular secular perpetual calendar. A secular module is grafted onto this perpetual calendar, making it accurate over the next centuries, including leap and secular years.

Dominique Renaud carries in him the inventor’s flame: he first puts his ideas down on paper and then turns them into models, the old-fashioned way, as he did in the days of Renaud & Papi, with plexiglass and metal parts. Then it’s the turn of Julien Tixier, who, in addition to co-inventing, translates the concepts and ideas into something the computer can understand so that all the parts work together and can be manufactured: the case, the components of the date module, the dial, but also the finishes and various treatments, such as electroplating and titanium treatment.

DIMENSION

COLLABORATION

Dominique was keen to join Andrea Furlan and Hamad Al Marri’s endeavor, and delighted to again collaborate with Andrea, as they did for the DR01 watch project. Julien Tixier and Dominique Renaud had met in 2016 and this in turn led to a friendship and the birth of the 'Tempus Fugit' project. The association of Dominique, with his 40 years of experience, and Julien, an independent watchmaker constantly on the lookout for new ideas, was the spark for rethinking the complication – practically from scratch. The result was a balancing act between opting for a classic complication and reinventing it with modern R&D methods.

Gérald Genta

A magical take on Haute Horlogerie combining a playful display of time with Disney's Mickey Mouse and an ondemand chiming time. The octagonal case celebrating Gérald Genta design masterpieces.

For its very first participation in Only Watch, Gérald Genta is unveiling a minute repeater watch with Disney’s Mickey Mouse playfully indicating the time.

This beloved character has played a central role in the Gérald Genta brand since the 1980s. Mr. Genta, the “Picasso of watchmaking” who gave his name to the watch brand, was bold enough to combine cartoon characters with high-complication watchmaking from 1984 onwards. This was a radical new direction in watchmaking – whimsical and daring.

Now, under the lead of Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini and on the initiative of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, the Gérald Genta team is celebrating Disney’s 100th anniversary as well as the 50th anniversary of the Maestro’s first watch under his own name in 1973, with a joyful enameled Mickey Mouse in the iconic Gérald Genta octagonal case, here crafted from white gold.

Mickey’s swiveling arm, pointing to the retrograde minutes along an arch marked 0 to 60 paired with a jumping hour complication, and the minute repeater chiming the precise hour are three key ingredients in the Gérald Genta brand’s DNA. Though occasionally sketched by the Maestro himself, this masterpiece is the first Gérald Genta watch combining these elements together. A very meaningful design for Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini, who spent many years working for Mr. Genta. ID

Hublot

This sapphire watch is inspired by Takashi Murakami’s iconic smiling flower with at its centre Hublot’s first ever central tourbillon, surrounded by twelve petals set with 444 colored gemstones. The watch boasts an impressive power reserve of 150 hours.

The MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Only Watch represents the Art of Fusion between Hublot and the artist, by merging the exceptional know-how of the Swiss luxury watchmaker with the playful universe of Takashi Murakami. This masterpiece is crafted in sapphire and showcases a unique central tourbillon especially conceived for this watch.

This complication represents the fusion of art and horological design. The idea is certainly to have Haute Horlogerie take centre stage physically, but not only that. The idea is also to show that the tourbillon – the beating heart of the watch – represents the heart of the person who buys it at the auction in aid of research against Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and also the hearts of those children fighting the disease. Imagining this piece, Takashi Murakami explicitly requested the inclusion of a central tourbillon. A challenge in and of itself, this would become Hublot’s very first central tourbillon. This was a difficult challenge because it becomes very complicated to indicate the hours and minutes which compete for the same central position. By accepting Takashi Murakami’s challenge, Hublot would have to make the right choices in order to integrate the aesthetic components of the central tourbillon to the technical requirements.

Jaquet Droz

For its Rolling Stones Automaton, Jaquet Droz has designed an animation recalling children’s nightlights and spinning tops, with colours and rotating discs showcasing the legendary band’s gear – all hand-crafted.

By giving a new face to its Rolling Stones Automaton, Jaquet Droz has created a fun piece evoking all the wonder of children at play. The Stones’ instruments, hand-crafted from blocks of gold, sit beneath the offset hours and minutes display on a disc coloured to resemble a vinyl LP. The scene is surrounded by a second disc that rotates when the pusher is activated, while the iconic Stones tongue rises, falls, and moves from left to right. The power reserve is shown at nine o’clock by a cam made to look like the tonearm and stylus of a traditional record turntable. As it rotates, the brightly-coloured spiral creates an optical illusion just like a child’s spinning top, with each colour hand-painted to match the Only Watch 10th Edition palette. A second Rolling Stones tongue at the centre glows in the dark – recalling a child’s bedroom nightlight.

Konstantin Chaykin

Konstantin Chaykin created the Joker Sandmann as an avant-garde version of the Joker with an open-worked dial and a retrograde day of the week display as the character’s smile. Meet dazzling Joker, who tried on the golden sand mask for the first time!

With the Joker Sandmann Only Watch 2024 watch, Konstantin Chaykin writes a new chapter in his saga of unique pieces created for Only Watch's charity auctions. The master is certain that the art of watchmaking has many facets. It is one of the expressions of the creative spirit of mankind, bringing complications and designs to the level of art and preserving centuries-old traditions. At the same time, it can contribute to medical research – an extremely important aspect of which the Only Watch initiative is one of the symbols.

For the 10th Edition of Only Watch, Konstantin Chaykin focused on the idea of developing an open-worked dial that displays the hours, minutes and day of the week. The unique character of the Joker Sandmann is created by the combination of several elements: an avant-garde case made of genuine “Bulat” stainless steel, an anthropomorphic open-worked dial, a classic design of the movement with traditional gold-plated and frosted bridges and finely finished steel levers, flat springs and snail eccentric.

Laurent Ferrier

With the creation of the new Sport Auto “On Track”, Laurent Ferrier decided to pay tribute not only to Only Watch's colourful and vibrant theme, but also to its founding history associated to the world of motor racing.

Once again, Laurent Ferrier is proud to support Only Watch for this 10th edition. For this occasion, Laurent Ferrier has created a unique timepiece that embodies the history of the brand. Laurent Ferrier has long been involved with motor racing since François Servanin and Laurent Ferrier, the two founders, joined forces in the 1970s to take part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Their friendship forged on the track led to the creation of the brand.

This new, unique and distinctive dial features charcoal grey gradient shades that resemble the appearance of asphalt. On the outer edge of the dial, a track pattern alternating yellow and blue acts as a boundary for the dial, evoking the speed bumps delimiting the bends in the racetrack. The hour-circle is surrounded by a green transfer. Finally, the white small second dial combined with the tone-on-tone indication “OW”, appears to indicate the finish line or the very objective of the race played on this unique timepiece. While bearing witness to the power of encounters and passions, the Sport Auto "On Track" is a tribute to both the rich history of Laurent Ferrier and that of Only Watch.

Lederer

The Lederer Central Impulse Chronometer is a highperformance wristwatch with revolutionary double detent escapement in a unique dial-less aesthetics for Only Watch 10th Edition.

In 2020, the very discreet Bernhard Lederer was again propelled to the forefront of the watchmaking scene when he unveiled a movement of rare ingenuity. Based on the foundations first laid by Breguet, then expanded by George Daniels, it was the culmination of extensive work on the heart of the mechanical watch: its escapement. Breguet's had intuited that a bi-directional detent escapement – an échappement naturel (Natural Escapement) –would inherently be more efficient. 150 years later, George Daniels took up the idea, but with an escapement that operated at the low frequency of 2Hz better suited to a pocket watch. The watch also had to be twisted to get the movement started. To address the dynamics of a watch worn on the wrist and ensure its reliability, Lederer first raised the frequency of his escapement – to 3Hz. More importantly, however, he sought a solution which, thanks to its geometry, would force the two escapement wheels to interact in such a way as to deliver optimum chronometric operation and precision under everyday conditions. Lederer’s invention aligns the escapements’ impulse, hence the name of the watch: Central Impulse Chronometer.

ID

Central Impulse Chronometer

Ref. CIC 9018 – OW - 10

Louis Moinet

The dial of Art-Tech uses the optical properties of microelectronic circuits engraved on a silicon wafer to create an intense visual animation of multicoloured reflections that flash over a clear graphic design whenever the watch moves.

A World Premiere: A microelectronic silicon wafer dial combined with a tourbillon. The silicon wafer makes for a very special design. Each angle of vision creates a new, lively, and changing visual experience, because the wafer reacts in different ways to light. At each movement, it comes to life with multicoloured reflections that play across complex lines of the etched microelectronic circuit. The effect is fascinating. Art-Tech merges modern technology and traditional handcraft. It features a hand-wound tourbillon with two barrel springs arranged in a “volte-face” position. This outstanding piece comes in a 40mm case of grade-5, polished and satinated titanium.

This work of art is the embodiment of human genius through time, connecting a mechanism that is over 200 years old to microprocessors that are shaping the future.

Watchmaker Ludovic Ballouard teams up with guilloché artist Brittany Nicole Cox to present Upside Down Blue Feather. Featuring a blue dial decorated with an original hand-guilloche pattern depicting flying birds, it offers a unique message of hope, generosity and protection.

For the 10th Edition of Only Watch, acclaimed independent watchmaker Ludovic Ballouard has teamed up with accomplished guilloché artist Brittany Nicole Cox to present a one-of-a-kind platinum edition of Ballouard’s timeonly tour de force Upside Down. More than a unique timepiece, Upside Down Blue Feather offers a unique message of hope, generosity and protection, in keeping with the values of Only Watch.

Its sapphire-blue fine silver dial is decorated with an eye-catching handguilloché pattern depicting birds in flight. This original motif – boasting a multitude of carefully-placed cuts and facets – was designed and engineturned by Cox, who took inspiration from Emily Dickinson’s poem “Hope is the thing with feathers” to create it. While the soaring birds denote optimism, resilience and perseverance, their blue feathers symbolise looking out for and giving back to others. Only the current hour is displayed the right way up, reminding us it is only the present moment that truly matters.

Maurice Lacroix

This year, inspired by the work of artist Victor Vasarely, Only Watch celebrates vibrant colours. Housed in a 43mm sapphire case and featuring an in-house skeleton movement, this urban-themed timepiece unites rainbow hues with Swiss watchmaking expertise.

The Maurice Lacroix Only Watch 10th Edition is presented in a sapphire case, a first for the Maison. The making of a sapphire crystal case is protracted, necessitating numerous hours of polishing. Measuring 43mm in diameter, this colourless housing affords views of the hand-wound movement within. Only Watch always celebrates colour and this year proves no exception. Inspired by the work of artist Victor Vasarely, participating brands were encouraged to juxtapose shades of blue, red, orange and green. The resultant rainbow-theme enlivens the movement plate. The hours and minutes are shown on an off-centre dial appointed with black indexes, each suffused with Super-LumiNova and presented in a different hue, again repeating the rainbow look.

The in-house skeleton movement, the Manufacture Calibre ML330, is the star of the show. The sapphire case and the openworked design allow the wearer to see the regulating organ, the mainspring in various states of tension, the gear train and even the keyless works. This is a watch that will sate the desires of the most mechanically curious horophile. The watch is presented on a grey M-branded nylon strap paired with a stainless steel butterfly buckle and features a user-friendly strap-exchange system.

Moritz Grossmann

“Tremblage” Only Watch with the historical craftsmanship of tremblage dial rhodium-plated and raised elements finely brush finished.

Tremblage involves a surface being finished by hand using a range of engraving burins. The tools are moved across the metal in a trembling motion, which is also where the name comes from, with the French “tremblant” meaning “to tremble” in English. The challenge in this is to create an even look. It gives rise to a rough but matt effect that dampens the incident light on the dial of the special model and makes the tremblage surface appear beautifully matt.

Once tremblage has been applied to the German silver dial, it undergoes a galvanising treatment. The surface is rhodium-plated, creating a tint. This lends even more expression to the tremblage engraving. The raised elements of the dial – numerals, indices, the manufactory logo and the inscriptions “Only Watch” and “Made in Germany” – are then finely brush finished. This scales a light German silver hue in a fine nuance.

Petermann Bédat

Auffret Paris

Three-hands watch chronometer. Petermann Bédat and Auffret Paris collaborated for a unique timepiece for the 10th Edition of Only Watch.

The movement takes Petermann Bédat’s design language by their swan-neck regulator system while Auffret Paris’s aesthetic codes are seen on the click system and the charbonnage at the surface of the bridges. The dial is crafted from flame-whitened solid silver, engraved, and adorned with rose gold indexes. The hour and minute hands are made of rose gold, while the seconds hand is flame-blued steel. The stainless-steel case reflects Petermann Bédat's visual identity.

The three-hand chronometer movement, which is based on a Zenith 135, was reimagined by the watchmakers, incorporating new aesthetics for the bridges. The collaboration extended to Fleury Manufacture, where the main components underwent precise machining. This collaboration showcases craftsmanship, design, and horological expertise.

Piaget

This coloured watch beats to the rhythm of an ultra-thin Manufacture calibre 1200S1, with green, blue and rose-gold coloured skeletonised bridges. A rare specimen combining refined materials, craftsmanship, design and a unique sense of style.

When you hear “jet set” and “Côte d’Azur”, Monaco springs to mind... Piaget has decided to donate a unique piece to the 10th Edition of the Only Watch charity auction, which is organised from the Principality every two years to raise money for research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The piece is a creative brightly coloured Piaget Polo Skeleton arty edition, both artistically technical and coolly chic. Its design pays homage to the “Hexa Grace” artwork by Victor Vasarely, which is exhibited in Monaco.

The watch beats to the rhythm of a coloured Manufacture calibre 1200S1, with green, blue and rose-gold coloured skeletonised bridges, all specifically designed for this unique piece. The ultra-thin movement, only 2.4mm thick, is housed within a rose-gold case measuring 42mm in diameter and only 6.5mm in thickness. This unique Piaget Polo Skeleton Arty is coupled with a blue interchangeable strap, also designed specifically for the occasion. This one-of-a-kind timepiece will be awarded to the highest bidder during the Only Watch auction this May.

Reservoir

Télôs Watch

The Tiefenmesser Tourbillon is a new Reservoir x Télôs watch co-creation: this unique crafted piece is unveiled exclusively for the 10th Edition of Only Watch, combining creative vintage display - 240° retrograde minute and jumping hour - with renowned high-watchmaking savoir-faire from Switzerland.

Reservoir proudly presents its very first in-house Tourbillon in collaboration with Télôs watch: a major technical step change for the emerging and independent brand, achieved with the collaboration of the renowned movement manufacturer from La Chaux-de-Fonds, Reservoir's strategic partner since its earliest days. The unique crafted piece takes inspiration from the nautical measuring instruments of the last century, with a typical display like the depth gauge aboard submarines. Encapsulated in a bronze case, it displays a regulator-type enamel “Grand Feu” dial, a blue hand for the retrograde minutes at 240° and jumping hours – last both being the brand’s aesthetic signature. The unique Swiss made watchmaking savoir-faire of Télôs watch is demonstrated by the imposing presence of a tourbillon at 6 o’clock featuring 437-pieces and 46-stones. Clocked at 4Hz and powered by a double barrel, it offers a 60-hours power reserve. The case back reveals an exclusive oscillating weight engraved with indications found on “chadburns” from old submarines.

Ressence

TYPE 12 Only Watch 2023 defies the odds with timeless hope. The Ressence TYPE 12 Only Watch 2023 captures the essence of disorder and victory, with a unique DNA-inspired dial symbolising the pursuit of a cure.

This watch embodies a profound message of hope and victory. The dial of the TYPE 12 OW23 is where its distinctiveness truly shines. To symbolise this genetic anomaly, the dial features a blue painted DNA chain on a silver background. The unique visual representation, combined with Ressence's signature revolving discs, forms a two-dimensional dial design that delicately portrays the disorder and hope intertwined with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Furthermore, the TYPE 12 OW23 watch incorporates a weekly revelation. Every Sunday at midnight, when all the discs align, the dial reveals a well-aligned DNA chain, a moment that represents the hope for a cure and the progress of research. This captivating feature reinforces the idea that with every passing second, the advancement of research brings us closer to victory over the disease. Since blue is one of the main colours of the 10th Edition of Only Watch and can be associated with vast and seemingly infinite expanses, as the ocean and the sky, or hope and knowledge; it was chosen as the accent colour of this one-of-a-kind dial. The blue calf leather strap is also a nod to the Only Watch colours, with a red lining and green edging, punctuating the watch's design.

Rexhep Rexhepi

For the 10th Edition of Only Watch, Rexhep Rexhepi remains true to his vision with the Chronomètre Antimagnétique. A precision wristwatch bearing all of Rexhep Rexhepi’s hallmarks, the Chronomètre Antimagnétique is protected from magnetism by a Faraday cage surrounding the handfinished movement.

The Chronomètre Antimagnétique is both a tribute to historical antimagnetic chronometers and a practical timekeeper for modern life, where electronics containing powerful magnets are frequently encountered in everyday life. The dial of the Chronomètre Antimagnétique is inspired by the “scientific” dials of historical chronometers. But its design is also a subtle nod to the watch’s purpose: the alternating blocks along the hour scale are an abstract representation of the opposite polarities of a magnetic field.

Like the great wristwatch chronometers that place function above form, the Chronomètre Antimagnétique features an antimagnetic stainless steel case –one of the rare metal cases made by Jean-Pierre Hagmann’s workshop (JHP). With its symmetry and perfect finish, the Chronomètre Antimagnétique calibre is instantly recognisable as a Rexhep Rexhepi movement. The calibre is easily distinguished by its innovative structure. This one-of-a-kind timepiece will be awarded to the highest bidder during the Only Watch auction this May.

Chronomètre Antimagnétique

Ref. RRCA

SPECIFICITIES

The case back is actually an external screw-down case back that can be removed by the wearer to reveal a second sapphire back to admire the beauty of the movement. A hand-engraved lightning bolt as a universal symbol for magnetism, will give the reference point for the correct alignment of the case back for its removal.

CASE

A resistant stainless-steel case made of 30 components — One of the rare few metal cases made by Jean-Pierre Hagmann’s workshop. The movement ring, case back and dial plate form a Faraday cage to protect the movement against magnetism.

DIAL

Black enamel Grand Feu dial with an inspiration from the “scientific” dials of historical chronometers — The alternating blocks along the hour scale are an abstract representation of the opposite polarities of a magnetic field.

CALIBRE

In-house, manually-wound movement — Hours, minutes and central seconds — Hacking, zero-reset seconds for precise time setting — Gold wheels — Movement construction and materials specifically chosen for magnetism resistance — With its symmetry and perfect finish, the Chronomètre Antimagnétique calibre is instantly recognizable as a Rexhep Rexhepi movement.

Richard Mille

A millennia ago, in a long-since vanished society where mechanics, craftsmanship and spirituality were united, this fascinating object emerged. Discovered in the heart of the Swiss mountains, this pendant was imprisoned for an eternity in its wooden receptacle. Nicknamed “Talisman Origine” by the research teams, this mysterious golden relic certainly encapsulated the know-how of an old Swiss tribe.

It was with extreme caution that watchmakers at Richard Mille began to analyze the shamanic relic. They used modern manufacturing technologies to learn more about its origin, properties and its functioning. Its skeletonized architecture, its complexity and the precision of its finishing and assembly raised many questions as well as its case composed of rhodonite, titanium and gold, bearing mysterious engraved symbols.

The asymmetry of the work seems to echo the two crowns, one probably dedicated to the sun, the other to the moon.

The discovery of this piece opens up a new perspective on the origins of creativity. Did the invisible energies contained in the ‘Talisman Origine’ control the time, summon spirits, or hold the history of a highly developed Swiss civilization? What is certain is that it transcends the boundaries between the tangible world and the spiritual world.

Codename RMS14, this piece offered to Only Watch is a tribute to this enigmatic object, a Richard Mille interpretation of what this pendent could have looked like centuries past.

Singer Reimagined  Genus

The 8-Track Watch for Only Watch - The crossroads of time keeping passion and automotive dreams brought to life. Ingenious, unexpected, and clever, the 8-Track Watch is the horological embodiment of technical excellence and childhood fun.

The 8-Track Watch is a fusion of ideas, passions, mechanics and two independent watch brands: a watch with a Singer aesthetic in a case inspired by the iconic watches of the 60s and 70s, with a deep connection to the world of motorsports; the perfect setting for the exceptional mechanics of the display complication invented by Genus. With its 43mm diameter and cushion-shaped case, the elongated edges at 6 and 12 o'clock seem to magnify the case band, prolonging the arc of tension. The crown is positioned at 4 o'clock. Speake Marin

Speake Marin introduces the Ripples Bleu Royal, an ocean of hope. The heart of the watch reveals a highly exceptional calibre, the SMA03-T20 (previously featured in the 20th Anniversary watch). This calibre is associated with precious materials. However, Speake Marin has broken this rule to emphasize the emotional significance of time.

Speake Marin has embraced its iconic hue, Royal Blue, for the first time in its history, adorning the dial of this exquisite, one-of-a-kind timepiece created exclusively for Only Watch. The Ripples Bleu Royal watch serves as a radiant tribute to hope, with its distinct and characteristic Speake Marin blue achieved through the meticulous process of blue physical vapor deposition (PVD) with a galvanic underlayer. The watch showcases a deeper shade of blue, artfully highlighting the placement of the small seconds subdial at 1.30 and creating a captivating interplay of subtle illumination. The hour and minute hands, gracefully shaped like hearts, are intricately rhodiumplated, and gently curved, while the small seconds hand boasts a rhodiumplated, and flat design. The hand-polished indexes exude elegance and bestow a resplendent brilliance upon the dial. Traditionally associated with gold and precious materials in the realm of Speake Marin, the SMA03-T20 movement takes on a special role within the unique Ripples Bleu Royal model, meticulously crafted from steel, symbolizing the profound value of time in life. The solid steel case back, skillfully engraved by the talented hand of Boris Nemitz, proudly bears the inscription “Only Watch 2023, Unique Piece”, further accentuating the exceptional nature of this timepiece.

Sylvain Pinaud

The Origine pays tribute to the know-how and finesse of watchmaking of the past, with a contemporary twist. The balanced composition of the entire piece is underlined by the unique asymmetrical arrangement. The undisputed star is the chronometric balance arranged at 6 o'clock.

Specially designed and handmade for Only Watch in Sylvain Pinaud’s atelier, this Unique Origine reflects the watchmaker's philosophy. It pays tribute to the finest achievements of the art of watchmaking. For the first time, the two-tone dial is guilloched with a personal and contemporary pattern. The complex, multi-layered dial, plays on contrasts and an extraordinary finish to offer perfect readability. To make this creation unique, special attention was paid to the different shades of blue that blend in the piece.

The traditional flame blue is applied on the hands and discreetly and originally on the balance bridge. The unique blue dial, highlighted by its black-polished steel cartouche, accentuates depth and contrast. The different finishes give this timepiece a spectacular dynamic, highlighted by the large balance wheel. The construction of the movement has been carried out without compromise in terms of reliability and chronometry. The design and manufacture of the components are made to ensure a long life and to guarantee an irreproachable precision for centuries.

Each element of the watch is proportionate to the soft, round language of the case. The lugs have a graceful sweep, offering comfortable wearability with a suave feeling of formal elegance.

Trilobe

Inspired by the Japanese art Kintsugi, “Réconciliation” by Trilobe embodies the philosophy of embracing life’s imperfections. The timepiece reveals the beauty hidden behind the flaws by gilding its cracks with gold leaves. This new version of the iconic Une Folle Journée, celebrates life’s transformative journey.

This piece was inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi (金継ぎ), which consists of repairing broken objects with gold. A profoundly inspiring philosophy: Kintsugi considers that scars carry stories that deserve to be valued. The story of this piece thus transcends physical mechanics and plunges its readers into the realm of philosophical contemplation. With its exposed fractures, this timepiece bears witness to the passage of time. Like the tribulations of life that shape us, this unique creation pays tribute to the journey it has undertaken - a transformative odyssey where it has been intentionally broken, only to emerge even more precious and captivating. The impact marks on the rings and the movement are handmade by a craftsman watchmaker who achieves a hammered effect finish on the bridges, the plate, and the symbolic rings. The damaged parts are then gilded by hand with gold leaves.
